Sony has released new firmware updates for a number of handsets that brings August 2020 Android security patches with them. Updated models include the Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 with build number 55.1.A.9.75. In addition, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ3 range has been updated to build number 52.1.A.3.74, which have moved from July 2020 to August 2020 security patches. As of writing, there are no updates for the Xperia XZ2 Compact, although this may appear in the coming days.
We have also seen an update on the entry-level Xperia L4 with build number 57.0.A.2.242, seeing the security patches move from May 2020 to August 2020. The Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra models have seen new build number 50.2.A.3.77 appear, moving security patches from April 2020 to August 2020.
As always, Sony does not provide a detailed changelog of these updates, but we do not expect there to be any tangible improvements over and above the security patches. If you have upgraded to these new versions, please let us know your impressions in the comments below.
