What, no memory card??

Yay, just in time to buy a new phone.

Seems to be the trend; As long as there is sufficient nand storage then the devices don’t really require memory cards.  Plus it’s android… so you can access it through a file browser or by plugging in your phone.

Plus, I would hope that the internal memory would have much better performance than a class 2 micro-sd card (although it should certainly drive the price up as well)

I suppose if they added the micro-sd card slot in addition to the pricey internal memory, it would break the target price point.

I’m glad to see it will have NFC though.
Now, I would be able to pay for the train, use coupons at mcdonalds, touch the phone to another to exchange contacts, and the other ways that NFC has been used for, for the past couple years in this market.

If the final official specs are close to those detailed above, then it would be a true champion. Unless samsung and htc go for quad cores which i seriously doubt. All that would be left for SE would be to come up with software that’s not just pretty much stock android but heavily skinned.

Perhaps by that time..dual-cores is fully optimize on whatever version of Android were available

March 2012 huh, I’m guessing we’ll start seing pinior quad core phones somewhere Q3~Q4 2012 by Samsung/LG? Just my 2 cents. Eitherway, still digging this phone but… NO EXTERNAL MEMORY?!?!?! >.<

I don’t buy the space argument. This is already a phone with a MASSIVE 4.3 inch screen (too big IMO) and therefore plenty of board space. The area difference between a SIM and MicroSIM is so small that the overall drawbacks outweigh the benefits IMO.

Besides also defeating the whole purpose of a SIM (i.e. that you can move it easily from one phone to another), from a human ergonomic perspective SIMs are already small as it is and often fiddly to insert and easy to lose – making it smaller just makes this situation even worse again.

I’m also of a mindset where I wish phones used standard SD cards rather than MicroSD cards. The SD card size is perfect for humans to insert and remove easily or store in a wallet. MicroSD is just too small and fiddly and easily lost. I hate also that I have to use an adaptor and can’t just put the SD card in the slot in my computer when transferring photos like I would do with my camera. SD is also cheaper and allows larger storage capacities.

is a joke, for march really. for this time htc will have 2.2 ghz dual core, nvidia 4, 2 gb ram, samsumg too more 4.5″, 5″, 5.5″, 64 gb inside, etc. bad news

This is what google is trying to do, make phones with bigger internal memory so there is no need for external!

Back in those days phones do not have that much components to be squeased into one tiny device. I mean just count the number of hardware functionalities there are. NFC, FM radio, cell transiver, CPU, GPU, NFC, Camera(x2 front and back), Led/Xenon flash, Larger battery, Larger screen.. and the list goes on….

I’m waiting like that news for a long time

Many windows phone devices, some android tablets, and reportedly some execs have said that’s the direction they want to take thing… faster NAND flash memory performance over micro sd cards… plus they can potentially reduce the number of skus that way.

As much as I like there being a removable/expandable memory card (all my phones in the last 6 years have had them), I’d rather have 32GB of NAND flash memory over some 32GB memory card.

My SO-01b/X10 came with a class 2 16GB memory microSD card and that’s great and all but I seriously doubt many people upgraded their memory cards after buying it.  So, as long as the device ships with a decent sized memory, the great point to having a memory card (expandability) is not so useful after all.  Being able to remove it and plug it into something (ex: a photo printer) is nice and all but not really all that necessary these days. I can connect to things over wifi or plug the device into a computer.  Even going to a major electronics shop here, I can plug my phone into their photo printer, browse the photos, and print them out.

In the end, the greatness of a memory card is fading away season by season but –unlike us– “regular” consumers don’t really care all that much

Who uses a class 2 card??? I’d rather they just didn’t bundle such crappy low spec cards at all and just gave a cheaper price as I always replace the bundled one with my own (at least class 6).

Making the features of the phone WORSE just because Apple has the same WORSE features makes absolutely no sense.

It kind of reminds me of the scenario with front-facing video cameras. Almost all SE phones had front cameras -> Apple came along and did not have front camera -> SE removes front camera on devices including Arc just because that is what the Apple reality distortion field has dictated -> Apple then adds front facing camera and claims to have invented it -> SE looks like a tool!

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Apple’s “magical” new feature on there next iPhones would be to have expandable memory and then go on to claim to invent it! Then SE will look like a tool again!

4g, xenon, thin, and please please please one version world wide no american European mess that we have to go through every year.  i mean if they are all released at the same time it’s half the problem, but europe always gets it 3 – 4 months earlier than the U.S.

I have a thumbnail sized flat, micro USB adaptor which i keep a spare 32G card loaded with music (and the basic files/directories for all the programs) attached to my x10′s phone strap slot. http://goo.gl/IJGQq  it’s a good solution.

AGREE! all not putting a memory card drive in is going to do is simply annoy people and make them buy something else..i mean, i can get 64gb with a samsung galaxy s2, and unlimited if i bring other memory cards with me (i.e i can have 32gb of apps on the phone, 32gb of music on one memory card, 32gb of video on another etc). second micro SIMs serve no benefit whatsover, other than again, annoying everyone by being incompatible with regular SIM cards

Couldnt agree more, why go down the Apple road? I had Iphone and never want to have that again. And I really like my memorycard, its so easy to save all things, when you change phone you still have all your stuff without getting it back online. Love my Sony Ericsson. Plz let me continue to change for your good phones in fufure aswell:)
