Swedish retailer pegs Xperia V release for December 3

by XB on 25/09/2012

in Xperia V

Sony Mobile has kept the release date of the 4.3-inch water-resistant Xperia V close to its chest up until now, only giving a vague Q4 launch. However, Swedish online retailer Dustin.se has recently put the phone up for pre-order with a 3rd December 2012 release date. Dustin.se has it priced at SEK 4,299 + VAT, at current exchange rates this translates to a pre-VAT price of £404, €508 and $656.

We have been told that this is a credible retailer, who is normally accurate with their shipping dates. If true, that means that there is a two-month wait for the handset. We don’t need to tell anyone, that by December, rumours around Sony’s CES showing will be in full swing which could tempt prospective buyers to see what’s around the corner. Obviously release dates are subject to change, so let’s hope it comes much sooner.

Thanks Jonas!

It may be too late for Sony …

  • lovebmw

Not maybe, but for sure… but hey this what happens when you have so many phones to release, you have to do one kind at a time…. so stupid

  • http://www.facebook.com/lokenkandraw Loken Pun

    noooo october release please!

  • goldenblls

This is just one retailer. It doesn’t mean other retailers or networks won’t have it sooner.

Putting this date down in the calendar. As I just lost my Xperia P on a drunken adventure.
This seems to be the closest to perfect phone ever. It lacks only one thing, the dedicated shutter button.

  • mountain

They are correct. I have been informed that it will be released in hong kong in december as well.

  • Brapicoco

Sony’s marketing team should really think about their customers, maybe think like Apple. because they announce a unit then makes their customers wait for a long time. which is bad because the hype of the customers of buying the product will be lost as time passes by and eventually new mobile events will occur making customers pass on the unit. Plus they are really behind the specs because even though Dual Core matches Quads. next yr it will all be Quads powered by S4 which was led by LG. Sony should really think hard if they really want to make profit from their devices.

  • Rune Christiansen

It seems to be an even later december 12. release in Denmark… I really want the phone, but as Brapicoco says; much can happen on the phone front in two months.

Sony..that’s not stepping up your game! You are back to that way of thinking, again. As if someone owes you something! Like that good-looking person you meet, and you have to do all the work.Folk are not going to wait..Your
losing money!! And add some colors to these phones, bigger battery.Better wake-up! Sony! Cant blame “Ericsson” now.

Xperia V copy iPhone so much… what a shame!

  • Rex

I’m up here in sweden at the moment and yes it’s true. 17 on line retailers have the xperia v for sale from nov 28th and onwards. Can’t wait. Lets hope that CES rumored phones don’t make things confusing around that time.

  • Rex

    how????

  • lovebmw

whaaaaaat? are you one of those poeple that say if it has a touch screen then its an iphone copy? please explain how is it a copy of the iphone?

I must admit I cannot understand Sony’s strategy at the moment. The hype for the T, V and J died very quickly (except amongst the Sony fanbase), after the presentation of the Lumia 920 (which admittedly comes with major hardware innovations) and the iPhone 5. And now the delay of marketing the V. I think they should have ditched the second half of 2012 lineup altogether which doesn’t improve much on the NXTs and confuses with the change of design direction and instead they should focus on coming up with an amazing flagship for 2013.

  • Rex

This is my take on why it’s release date is so away. Remember, Sony and Ericsson has invested alot of time and money on the T/TX. They’ll want to see a return first before they unleash the real beast, The V.
If you noticed, the V does not have the Sony Ericsson logo. It’s the Flag ship. Sony’s first monster phone ( and water resistant ). Gotta love it.
P:S Seems like the russians already have it.

I’m a Sony Customer and also the Fan but December is misunderstand :( I’ve already got 700$ just for Xperia V that expect to launch November …..

well for starters they really need to reduce the blind aiming with the so many different kind of phones. i mean lets think about it, say you have a factory that needs to build an X phone, well, lets aim for 10k phones, lets assume that you started manufacturing those phones. while the factory is building 10,000 X phones, Sony announces B phones, C phones and D phones. well they need to wait until X phone is built… or you go ahead to a different factory, you need more quality assurance departments more marketing more spending more working hands. Having so many phones confuses customers, who ever decides to wait for X will change his mind for the newer B phone, you fall the the problem of the brand is competing with its own. Just like this example: should you buy a 2013 911 or a 2013 boxter, they are both 0 – 60 can take 4 seconds…. every magazine says Porsche shot them self in the foot, and the biggest contender for a 911 is now the boxter. With this amount of phones, they are all missing something and ALONE can’t compete with Galaxy SIII or iphone5 ; ironically, the ENTIRE line of Xperia kicks both phones behind. Sadly, from what we have all seen so far, companies with focused handsets are doing much better than Sony’s crazy phone announcements.

Look at the Tablet Xpera S, i honestly feel that tablet is slowly growing, although it needs more juice i hardware, it is at least focused, released on time, and don’t see negative complaints from customers.

If there was no T or TX, the V would have been out by now, and to be honest the V packs a bigger punch with its identical features however; better hardware. although i think a Xperia VT would have been a great contender for this years 2nd place position, as the other phones manage to have a reputable fame that Sony needs to effect before their phones start floating of the shelves.

They need to pack a leader punch, when you Seonyericsson the first thing that crosses my mind is the P900, who remembers that phone and the fuss it made. it had everything a phone never had all at once under the hood.

SONY, FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS… we are waiting… stop testing aimless products. go for the big stuff. compete ith other brands not with your own self…. and i am sure there will be profit as your cost will go down, and your customers will increase enjoying timely releases, Faster Updates, and unforgettable beautiful designs and performance.

Honestly I am not going to wait for the V anymore . I am in United States, Sony keeps delaying the release date here, at least 2 months behind the Asia and Europe market . For example the Acro S, Sony has just release it here while it has been out in Asia market in summer. For the T/TX, it is out in China, but we are still not able to hear a thing from Sony. Not to mention the sales tax that comes with the phone. I am totally disappointed , although I am so in love with the V. I wonder if Sony is going to release the V in EU in December , that indicates US is not getting it until Feb 2013. Sucks!

does this V have LTE ?

  • Kaminori Chan

I disagree with u about focusing only on a few phones. Just look at Samsung. They showed to the world that with strong marketing & management and producing varied products aimed at different consumers u can be number1 even if u give people cheap crappy phones. So in comparison I believe Sony should release as much phone as they can to the market but they should vary of course. strong marketing & timely release are important too

  • lovebmw

you have a point, but don’t you think ”
strong marketing & timely release are important too” is not the the answer for a 10 year failed SE strategy example. lets not go as lmited as one phone, but i strongly believe this many phones is only frustrating is the direct cause of the delays and confusion. 1 entry for different segment of the market is my opinion. 1 for flagship and an S version later on, 1 for min entry with an S version and 2 for low entry.

  • Rex

    Yes it does

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrew-Mc-Glone/640392328 Andrew Mc Glone

Awesome ! However much I like the T it does not have LTE and the V looks better ! I think I can wait till Decemeber

  • Kaostheory

My phone still works, might buy 2nd hand and wait for Sony X(nexus) or Z first real flagship.

  • Guest

    Buy from an out-of-state e-tailer?

  • http://www.facebook.com/RzayRzay Ray Valdemar Søderholm

They’ve invested a lot in the V too, why delay it? I think it’s just not ready yet.
If you think about it, a lot of people are skipping the T/TX for the V, and they might skip the V too if they hear rumors about new phones before the V releases. So delaying the release of the V intentionally would just hamper sales of all 3 models, not making Sony gain anything. So as I said, I bet it’s just not ready.

It was announced to be a Q4 device, so whining about it not being released in Q3, as some people here do, is a bit premature I think.

I agree with BMW lover; the lineup of this year doesn’t come across as rich and diverse but as messy and confusing. Let’s say, I invest on an Xperia S thinking that I have the best from Sony Mobile and then I wonder whether I should have waited for the identical ion which has only bigger screen. Or maybe the acro S which is waterproof on top. And then I feel like an idiot because Sony comes up with the T as a new flagship in only six months and only two months after I updated to ICS. Or should I get the updated SL? Or maybe the TX if I live in a specific country or the GX if I live in Japan? I mean, has anyone figured out why Sony offers the T somewhere and the nearly identical TX somewhere else?
It’s good to have a rich product portfolio, but is there anyone in Sony that has an overview of their current portfolio mess?
I presume this problem is caused by the transition from Sony Ericsson to Sony and these phones were projects that where cought somewhere in the middle of development and then they were rushed all together to the market from different development managers thinking different directions of Sony Mobile. Let’s hope next year they will focus.

Wrong, this so called iconic iphone design was a rip off from an Sony designer concept from early 2000, Apple just use it shamelessly for 3 phones so far.

    http://iosvlog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/sony_inspired_iphone_prototypes18_1020_gallery_post-500×384.jpeg

that is the internal documents released by Apple themselves in samsung lawsuits battle. The xperia v is one of the first sony design phones based on erricson arc design from the T, and now added with their own mix. Also use in cell touch like iphone 5.

Ion was lte & bigger. Acro S was waterproof. SL completely replace S.these are enough differences I believe. GX is identical to T so no problem again. The main problem with Sony is time management which they’re trying to fix as soona s possible & poor marketing which really disappoint me. For the first time last weeks I saw a Xperia banner but that wasn’t even 1/100 of what I saw from Samsung. SONY is specially weak at internet advertising. That’s what I think…

V is special my friend. Not everyone is gonna pay 50$ or more on a 4.3 inch waterproof phone which is 0.5 inch less that competitors. SONY is examining the idea & I hope them to Success…

  • Kaminori Chan

Sorry but the wrongness of this idea has been shown numerous time. Even HTC understood their mistake & they’re releasing new phones everyday lately. I remember how some people don’t. buy a phone because of only 50$! The best option for Sony is to.make phone based on on different and various prices + special functionality phones ofcourse. Every 50$ or even less there should be a phone and in every class along with strong marketing. This year we didn’t had much MT models whitch is really disappointing…oh well! Next year maybe..

Before the iPhone 5 release date on 21 September I have been checking this website and Sony’s FaceBook page multiple times every day hoping the Xperia V will be available for sale before the iPhone 5. And now it seems like it will only be released in December! I couldn’t wait anymore to replace my dying iPhone 3GS and so I got myself the iPhone 5 instead.

Problem with Sony and most Android manufacturers is that they announce their products way before it is actually available for sale. By then the hype would have died down and better phones would have appeared on the market. I am also not confident of the OS upgrade support if I were to move to Android. Too bad, I would really love to have a water and dust resistant LTE phone…

Sorry but the ion IS very, very close to the S, to justify them both. The SL replaced indeed the S, but why did it need to if the S is already pretty much replaced by the T/TX/GX? And still there is no clear reason why Sony is offering both the T and the TX. Ah, wait! Maybe the one is the Bond phone and the other isn’t… :-))
…And HTC acknowledged that they had a messy portfolio for 2011 and they tried to tidy it up in 2012. The reason why they are expanding again is because they are refreshing as much as they can because of falling sales. which are caused by the universal dominance of the iPhone and the Galaxy S3, which also proves that one focussed model is always better than a messy portfolio.
Messy portfolios are for non-status oriented brands. Sony should have an iconic phone, period.
