Sony Mobile announced earlier today that it has completed its transfer of the headquarters from Lund, Sweden to Tokyo, Japan. Sony expects the move will help it to leverage its strength with its other business units. The new head office will be used to develop new products as well as designing new Xperia smartphones.

Sony commenced moving headquarters back in October 2012 with around 1,000 jobs lost in Sweden (650 full time and the balance being consultants) by March 2014. At the time, Sony said the move would “enhance operational and development capabilities” of the company such as “time to market efficiency, streamline supply chain management and drive greater integration with the wider Sony group.”

nice…! :) love sony the best!

  • This is good, go sony

  • While it’s great that Sony has finally moved everything in-house, the jobs lost in this move isn’t. This coming from a person who is having trouble finding a job in their fields (computer engineering, network administration).

I’m not sure the loss of Scandinavian design is a good thing

  • Erricson has some great designers, really hope they have kept them. The arc design is still my favorite of any phone…

Yeah I agree, it’s sad that the Swedish headquarters lost so much and Scandinavian design loss sounds bad. I still love Sony though and I have the Xperia Z C6603. It’s an excellent smartphone, I love it!
