Brief sneak peek at Xperia S Jelly Bean firmware

The Sony Xperia S (LT26i) is not due to receive the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware update until April at the earliest, but that hasn’t stopped a few screenshots leaking out courtesy of DooMLoRD from xda-developers. It looks like that the new build number will begin with 6.2.X.X.XX and a new 3.4 kernel will be used, compared to the current 3.08 kernel.

Xperia S owners will get a number of features seen on newer handsets such as Power management, Find My Xperia and Screen mirroring. The new lock screen will also be part of the update. Click through to see some photos (if you’re wondering about the text rendering in the images, DooMLoRD says there was an issue whilst testing).

Now I wonder why 2011 devices like my baby Arc cannot go beyond ICS. Sony adds more features to vanilla Jelly Bean which I think the phone cannot more handle due to low RAM.

But still, I am curious how Xperia J will get JB. What’s the significant differences between my Arc and that Xperia J?

Well iI’m getting a new phone soon but this update will hopefully breathe new life into the S. ICS has been very disapointing. Buggy, glitchy and just dated. Let’s hope it comes before April.
If that happens we might even see 4.2 on the Z by July/August.

internal storage. we have 1GB only and have 380MB available for apps, more features to the rom means less storage for the apps. while the xperia J has 4GB internal storage.

Oh, that one. Nice catch for Xperia J to have JB and to think it will have an upgrade compared to its dual-core NovaThor siblings like the U and Sola. I rather vie for Xperia Z when it is released here in the Philippines. Thanks for the knowledge!

I just got a firmware update on my phone however its .55 still glad too see an update guess they finally pushed it to my region but the update looks much bigger than just a couple 7mb like the original .55 firmware update. Will look into it and see whats new!~

I have the TX and no Stamina Mode, only Power Management (which works really well). I would be nice if Sony gives us the options like the Z.

No they are not! Standy mode switches off all applications so you wont be able to receive even whatsapp messages when the phone is locked. Whereas stamina mode is customizable. You can choose which applications are to be kept active when the phone is locked

I hope Sony gives us all bravia engine 2 seeing that it was successfully ported to our phones in firmware .45 on root! and also all that HDR camera goodness! The Xperia S camera software and UI seems to be lacking alot >.<

don’t add useless feature like play now,.connected device,recommend,live ware manager,etc,, it just kill the entire ram for 512mb. i appreciate u come up with My XPERIA.. eagerly waiting…Great news for nova thor processor user….:)
