Sony SmartBand SWR10_10Sony introduced SmartWear at CES, the company’s term for its new wearable technology product range. The first product launched under the SmartWear umbrella is the SmartBand SWR10. As the name suggests, SmartBand is a lightweight band worn around the wrist that Sony says will record everything you do in your daily routine including capturing your movements, communication and entertainment. It will be able to tell how well you’ve slept as well as how many calories you’ve burnt.

SmartBand consists of a removable core unit and the band will come in a number of colours. The band is waterproof and will have a 5-day battery life. As you can see from the pictures below it has a premium-looking Sony fastener button. SmartBand also has LED notification lights to let you know when it is on.

The SmartBand will make you aware of any incoming notification via a small vibration in the band, this includes calls, texts or messages from social networks. You will be able to use the SmartBand to play, pause and skip your music whilst on the move. The SmartBand will also come with a Life Bookmark key that will allow you to capture everything that is happening at that moment with one button press.

Lifelog will be the Android companion app for the SmartBand, it will capture all of your physical, social and entertainment activities visually. The app will be able to see all of the media that you’ve consumed or how much you’ve been using social networks. Points will be awarded depending on how much you move and your lifestyle generally. You will also be able to set daily activity goals and try to beat your all-time best scores.

The SmartBand will only be available to Android users at launch (iOS users will have to wait). The SmartBand will launch during Q1 2014 for around the €99 mark. Additional coloured bands will be available for purchase separately.

Is there only one button on this?

  • JHMBB2

From the mind of a Sonyholic.

    Announcer,” Now from Sony..”

Me, “What? I want this! This is awesome!”

If this were Google Apple or Microsoft..

Me, “The hell they tryin’ to track me for? One step closer to a complete government tracking system. What next implanting something in my brain?”

“Sony announces a chip implanted in your brain that allows you to control all your Sony devices with a single thought…”

    Me, “I want!”

  • Lunkz

    Because, Nippon! Deal with it!

  • Lunkz

Like I posted before, I’m going to buy it!
There was a similar thing on Kickstarter but was overpriced and only iPhone.

    P.s. The App looks interesting.

  • Now why can’t Z1 compact have as much color as this?

  • We do, just not on this site. The only one I know that are mentioning is Engadget

  • Kiran Pasupuleti

How about adding time to it, it can replace a watch.

  • Lunkz

    Watch the Video.
    It’s touch sensitive too.

  • Lunkz

    Battery Life?
Or by the Sony SmartWatch it has a Clock.

  • The Rock

Hmmm… This looks like an interesting product. (*Considering*)

  • DStyle

    Nice. I’m getting one.

  • xperiafan324

Well, the tracking fears mainly stem from the NSA poking its nose into American corporations, Sony’s japanese so it doesn’t fall within the jurisdiction that the NSA has a reach in.

  • xperiafan324

I can see this being a big hit, since it’s very discrete and can easily do what all those sports bands can do and then some.
Eh, I still have my eyes set on a Sony Smartwatch with a Tok-esque colored e-ink display if they ever make one that is, till then, I’ll just keep pulling the phone out of my pocket.

  • Mac

Exactly! I need a z1 compact in purple 2 match the purple smartband!

  • the_black_dragon

Hmm my Question is: Will the app alternatively suppoert SmartWatch 2 instead of this device to logg my data? I don’t wanna have 2 devices on my wrists :(

  • Ben Lim

Purple (smartband) + yellow (phone) is awesome!

  • Hey

So it is a band with the core?

I bet Sony is about to reveal many products with the “Core”! I hope this one won’t fail :/

  • sad

…ordered jawbone and later this was announced by sony :(

  • Mac

Naa yellow ain’t really my style, but I still like the combination. U from L.A?

  • nobody

me too…if it have watch like functionality i will consider to buy it….

  • Utsav Shah

Innovation & Craftsmanship can come together only from Sony !

  • andrewboy15

Black and red combination, please. :)

  • They said.more news on IFA

  • Alessandro Romano

Obviously I want it, to have a Sony logo on my wrist, It will be like a tatoo :)

  • dfq

it is designed to be used with an android smartphone so the smartphone should already cover those needs. i doubt if you’d go out without bringing your phone with you. if you can afford this expensive device, you can’t afford not to have a smartphone.

although i would agree they should’ve just added some digital watch feature there.

  • Kenneth Fribert

    My thoughts as well

  • JHMBB2

Awesome, I guess I’m clear for a Sony chip brain implant.

  • the_black_dragon

Nope MWC :) IFA is at summer.

  • Diogo Simões

    Yes yes! Sorryyy

  • InspectorGadget80

I’m so BUYING THE YELLOW ONE XD! But whats the point in having a CES conference when they are releasing it first in EUROPE? com on sony put sales in the u.s.

It probably depends on the SmartWatch’s sensor, if it can track properly using just its accelerometer or not. It’s possible, although I don’t really think it’s likely. And there’s a lot of alternatives for fitness tracking apps anyway :D

I really hope this lil fellow can cooperate with a mw600,mw1,Sbh-50 and other BT headsets like these. But hey, have we got a BT4.0 aptX headset yet? If so I have missed it.

10 meter alert is too far. Will be good to have option settings of minimum 3 feet to about 1.5 meter.
