Sony D6603 specs leak via AnTuTu: MSM8974AB chipset, 1080p display, 16GB ROM, 2GB RAM

by XB on 21st January 2014

in Rumours, Xperia Z3 series

Sony D6603_AnTuTuAfter a number of leaks regarding the Sony D6503 ‘Sirius’ the attention now turns to the Sony D6603, where the purported specs have just appeared on the AnTuTu benchmarking app. The graphic below, from AnTuTu, suggests that this handset will run the Qualcomm MSM8974AB chipset with 2.3GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics, a 1080p display, 20.7MP rear camera, 16GB internal storage and 2GB RAM.

The 2GB RAM is surprising, given that the leaked Sony D6503 prototype came with 3GB RAM. However, the latter is not a dead cert, especially as Sony is likely to have several prototypes in the wild with various hardware configurations. Another graphic below shows the benchmarking performance of the Sony D6603 versus the Xperia Z (C6603) across various functions such as 2D/3D performance, RAM and CPU.

Don’t joking with me,before rumors were 3gb ram

    Now 2gb ram

    Wadafak happened

  • Yali AA

Almost the same performance as Z1.. minor increase/decrease in some areas, but looks like a good phone.

  • bobeobi gzigzigzeo

    This is different phone

  • Sami Mrabet

    Not the same phone

  • Mirrorpurple

sigh… why does Sony always make people regret buying their phones so early…

  • Lomore

I ain’t buying sony no more. Its coming out with flagship models every half a year. You cant gain loyalty like that

  • Michael

What the FUCK sony? Same specs as Z1
At least increase the RAM and internal storage 16GB is not enough. Despite this I bet the z2 will be gorgeous looking phone.

  • Roy

So now it’s the exact same specs as z1… Great.

  • manutd

so the same camera as on z1?why why why?at least will it be improved??no extra ram, same camera,no xenon so why a new phone????

  • aks

this is probably someone faking Z1 as this just making change on teh build.prop and running benchmark

  • Anonymous

    R.I.P English

  • Z

The thing about Sony is they’re quiet for a few months then everything starts to happen at once and everything is like confusing and I dont have enough money thank you very much Sony. But atleast the way I think of it is these leaks could be ultra fake because of the no leak policy which I think works, example no one knew that the Z1 Compact was gonna be named Compact.

  • Guess

A few years ago, people complained about outdated specs from Sony. Now, people complain about Sony making flagships too fast. Sony can not satisfied every single person in the world.

    Anything Sony do

  • P9

    never regret… :)

  • zzsetozz

that should be test device only, since the D6503 is running 4.4.2, and the 2GB RAM

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

The only reason you feel that Sony is releasing flagships too soon can only come from the fact that you always want the best all the time. Sony doesn’t tell you to buy the phone. If you think the Z2 comes too fast then this is not the phone for you. Z2 won’t be aimed at Z1 user, but rather people who have skipped the Z1 (waiting for Sony to use IPS display, waiting for better Audio quality…etc.)

Samsung is still the biggest player in smartphone market and look at what happened to HTC (and iPhone). HTC One was arguably one of the most outstanding phones in its time (along with Xperia Z), but its name started to fade off right after a few months. And HTC had no real proper flagship for the later half of the year while Samsung has its S-series in the first half and Note-series in the other half.

  • BCHILD

Listen to yourself sometimes. Sony releases too many awsome phones?! Yeah, that’s just terrible…

  • roeshak

So what is it exactly that Sony is actually releasing here. Android 4.4? Why make new phones just to do that. If the specs are the same as z1, what’s the flipping point? They just keep releasing polished up versions of the same shit. I think it’s not only consumers who are confused, Sony too have confused themselves lol!

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

The only reason you’re feeling Sony is releasing its flagships too early can only come from the fact that you always want the best specs at most of the time. You’re not contented with what you have (hello consumerism).

I don’t believe that’s Sony’s fault. Sony is not telling you to buy it. If you feel Z2 comes too fast then it’s not the phone for you. Z2 is not aimed at Z1 users, but rather at those who have skipped the Z1. (waiting for IPS display, waiting for better audio…etc.)

If you want 1 flagship per year then look at what happened to HTC One. HTC One was arguably one of the most outstanding phone at its first appearance, but its name faded away right after a few months. HTC didn’t have a proper flagship for the 2nd half of the year while Samsung, the biggest player, has its s-series in the 1st half and the Note-series in the 2nd half.

Again, The best from Sony leaked. But I’m still prefer D6503, but doesn’t mean D6603 is bad.

  • uidesigner_sony

Yeah, I not going to buy this smartphone, as Xperia Blog said previously “No WOW Effect….”

  • wick

I Hope sony sticks with the 2GB RAM as 3GB is just an overkill and a thing to brag about…performance wont be any different at all. Look at the benchmarks of Z1 and Note 3 NO DIFFERENCE !!
Sony should not go in this senseless specs bumping race…just my opinion

  • Prateek Bhanushali

No, Sony Should use 3GB of ram to get on par with the competition and to be future-proof…. We Sony Fans can understand its gimmick but wht about the others.? sony is there for business

  • Asad Ahmed

then you should ask samsung that they have launched so many variant of S4 that even you simply can’t remember em all

  • quiwoon

rumors are that sony will be using faster ram to support the 4k video recording

  • Battal Aljadei

    i believe this’s Xperia ZL2

D6503 better specs than D6603? Something wrong…. Where is the W.O.W factor?

  • wick

    Cant disagree with that also…

  • wick

    Cant disagree with that also…

  • heng

I think D6503 is ZL successor and D6603 is Z1 successor.but don’t you think it is too early to release Z2 at this time,it just less then 6 months that released Z1.

Samsung only has 2 releases in a year which is the ‘norm’-size phone and the gigantic one later. Sony has new flagships less than half a year.

I like to think companies to treat customers with respects when they fork out the extra cash to buy their top-end product. I’m not getting this feeling from Sony. Sure it maybe a effective strategy to gain market share faster whereas HTC takes it sweet time to release once a year, but I’m consumer dont expect me to care how are the companies’ business doing

  • Lomore

It’s true. SE used to be behind the game with their flagship and now they are trying to flood the market, just like Samsung. It maybe a good strategy for quick cash but it will not hold for long terms. Consumers are getting smarter each day and they will soon ask for respect instead of shinny new toys.

  • Mokhtar Mouhib

Listen to me stupid people, rumors now are about zl and another phone but no z2 for suuuuure, waiting for z2 he will be a bomb just trust me

  • roeshak

Samsung doesn’t flood the market with flagship. It’s got the phone and the phablet. Sony’s the only company I see flooding the market with flagships. To be honest, it went past ridiculous a while ago.

  • Prateek Bhanushali

It is actually a Z’s successor with respect to model Number and specs. It is 800 processor with a bump from S4pro. In second half Z2 vl arrive with 805 processor and vl be the successor of Z1 carrying model number D690X…. I think this phone will be named as Zpro or something like that…..

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Also successor to Z Ultra with 805 processor. Seems logical….

The problem is most other companies have less leaks and don’t really have people rumoring about what is going to come out next. Every company has a new device in works nearing release of a flagship or before or after, like video games, many companies have simultaneously games worked on at once, but not all known. If one were to be a sequel to a game and info was leaked maybe a half a year or a year after the first game, it would be considered too soon by people and money hungering, but we don’t know when this game, or in Sony’s case when the device will come out. The Sirius could come out in December for all we know or it could be a device catering to certain countries, we don’t exactly know.

Samsung “Only releases 2 a year” is kind of non-sense especially since they use the S4 flagship name to make the S4 Zoom/Active/Mini variants that people will think, not all, because it is the S4, it is the flagship Samsung device. Rumors that the S5 will do the same thing, not release a one that can do pretty much anything.

I have the Z1, I’m not going to feel betrayed because Sony released a Z2, technology moves way too fast and there is a lot of incremental updates, especially in mobile devices and computers, I can’t possibly buy every update. I’m content with the Z1 and waiting for 4.4, but I won’t want to buy the Z2 purely because it’s new.

Excellent points. I too skipped the Z1 as I had not owned my Z long enough to justify a change. I also knew that we would see newer and (hopefully) better to come this year. It is now getting closer to time for a change for me. I wont buy the Z1 now as it will be outdated soon. Bring on the next batch of great phones!! :)

  • 12

SONY only have 2 flagship in one year?one in the first half of a year ?the other in the second half of a year.

    like z and z1

  • Colby Leong

I think hes also referring to the flagships brothers, while not flagships, still similar in specs. First was the Z, then it’s brother the ZL, then almost 6 months later was the Z1.

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

Well Sony only has 2 flagships: The Z in the beginning of 2013 and then Z1 at the end of the year. ZL could be counted as a flagship too, but then it’s not confusing any customers what they want since Z and ZL are clearly separated in waterproof features.

Samsung doesn’t flood the market with flagships. IMO that’s partially correct. It depends whether you want to count flagships variants as flagships.

If you do then Sony has only the Z & ZL. Samsung has S4, S4 Active, S4 Zoom, S4 Mini. Galaxy Round also sports similar hardware, so might as well count that in. Then there’s the differences between the chipsets too. (Exynos vs Snapdragon). So you’re saying Sony is the only company flooding market with Flagships?

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

    2013 1st half: Z, ZL (waterproof and non-waterproof)
    2013 2nd half: Z1
I don’t see how that is “flooding”. Samsung has 4 variants for the S4. The real flooding Samsung has done is in the lower-end market.

This is the list for 2013 Samsung phones

    Samsung Galaxy S II Plus
    Samsung Galaxy Grand
    Samsung Galaxy Young
    Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2
Samsung Galaxy S4 (Exynos & Snapdragon)
Samsung Galaxy Fame (NFC and no NFC)
    Samsung Galaxy Mega (5.8, 5.8 dual-sim, 6.3, 6.3 LTE)
    Samsung Galaxy Win
    Samsung Galaxy Y Plus
    Samsung Galaxy Core
    Samsung Galaxy Star
    Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo
    Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
    Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (Exynos & Snapdragon)
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Exynos & Snapdragon)
    Samsung Galaxy Ace 3
    Samsung Galaxy Round
    Samsung Galaxy Express 2
    Samsung Galaxy Grand 2
    Samsung Galaxy S Duos 2
    Samsung Galaxy Win Pro

I don’t see Sony is producing those shiny new toys. Their flagships are well-built, well designed, each is unique in features among its line.

  • Fëanáro Nénmacil

If you follow HTC One news then you’ll know that it’s not taking any sweet time. Its brand is on the verge of falling.

You may not care about the business of the company but the company has to care what the top player in the market is doing. You are saying that you don’t care about how the business works and then you say you’re not satisfied with what the business is giving you? That just means that you just want something, but you don’t want to know the reasons behind the company’s movement. That’s your own ignorant. And it’s your own desire that makes your heart discontented with what you have.

There are always reasons why big companies do something and if you just don’t care then it’s your own fault.

Samsung – 2 releases? The S4 has 4 variants. And I’m pretty sure I’ve made it clear with the reasons from the previous post, you don’t seem to be denying it though :X All you say is you don’t care what the company’s plan is.

This may be XPERIA Z1 which Sony was going to decide to use this codename on release. But the codename was re-arranged before released and now it turns out somebody from China stir sum sheit. Or quite possibly this is China variant Xperia Z1. So there are now 2 possiblilities.

SO PLEASE DELETE THIS ARTICLE OR MANY PEOPLE WILL BE CONFUSED IN THIS MISUNDERSTANDING.
