Xperia Z2Sony Mobile has created a whole host of promotional videos for the Xperia Z2, befitting its status as the company’s newest flagship handset. You can peruse the videos at your leisure below, which show off some of the Xperia Z2’s new features such as Live Colour LED, digital noise cancellation, Movie Creator, 4K recording, Timeshift video and more.

The first promo video attached below is the centrepiece of Sony Mobile’s new campaign. It follows on from the arty teaser video that we saw last week. It depicts a day in the life of French dancer & choreographer Jeremié Bélingard in partnership with the Estate of Michael Jackson to highlight the best of Sony. See all of the videos below.

This is gona be my next phone, just astonishing :)

  • dh

That Michael Jackson song is great.

  • Mike Gonzalez

this phone just shits on anything introduced at MWC… hopefully Sony sells twice as many Galaxshit S5 this year, cuz they deserve it

  • TheSparks

    Sony has a winner!

  • ZXcorr

I think Sony has got a winner here. It’ll be great to see them triumph this year.

  • Andi Ko

Sony,…this year is your time to show the world, that u have the best smartphone in the world,….after i saw unpacked from samsung,….

  • ?????

Actually I cannot see a damn reason why someone would choose Galaxy S5 over the Xperia Z2.

  • nidou bossy

    Galaxy S5 looked like a Galaxy S4s :D

  • Vance Ainsworth

Sony you got it today. Not only did you bring the best product, but Samsung faltered. Now run with it! Hit the US market hard. Americans have a soft spot for Sony. You bring this kind of product, advertise the heck out of it and watch the numbers soar.

  • nidou bossy

i was checking Sony mobile US.. only found Z1s Tm… hopefully they will bring it to you in there.. or you’ll end up with an international version which it won’t work in all carriers! i believe so!

  • Fapples Christos Karadimas

    the best phone ever made

  • Rene Pedroso

Funny, Sony talks about detail but the XZ2 icons (particularly the battery) is not correct in the videos. Am I missing something, lol.

  • xperiafan324

More like galaxy s4 band aid edition. rofl

  • Jlol

Galaxy S5 was such a disappointment. Z2 is prettier and way better when it comes to specs. And yet I bet S5 will sell more. That’s just stupid.

  • Mint

    There is no reason.

  • xperiafan324

Sadly there are two reasons that people will use : availability and ignorance..but mostly just the ignorance part.

  • xperiafan324

And i can’t believe the s5 ia thicker than the s4 with a SMALLER battery! It’s like sammy’s trying to fail.

  • Mint

Well to be fair Z2 isn’t all that different from Z1.

  • Jlol

I guess they tried to copy Sony by making a warerproof flagship and failed.

  • Vance Ainsworth

Z2 has to get to the carriers. AT&T, call Sony right now! :)

  • tim

true, z1 was short lived but i think z2 addressed some major issues that user found unsatisfying about the z1 like the speaker placement, screen quality and the bezel (personally i didn’t mind it at all)… this may proves that they actually listen to what the public has to say after the company’s reorganization. Let’s hope they keep listening to the user

  • sao

    Maybe the processor?

  • Lunkz

  • Colby Leong

Release in the States with a some of the above videos as commercials on TV, Hulu, YouTube, etc, and they shall indeed have a hit on there hands

  • Colby Leong

I agree and it was pretty much the same from the Z to the Z1, a vast improvement. It shows that Sony is listening to its consumers. Little by little Sony is changing, soon smaller bezels, and more quicker and reliable android updates.

While, being a Sony fan, I appreciate that they listen to our feedback, but this whole 6 months release starts to make their flagships feel more like a refresh.

  • Colby Leong

I get where you’re coming from especially if you have just purchased the Z1 and are looking for an incentive to trade up.

  • aldopucci

    Samsung galaxy S5

  • Tjaldid

the last one is missing the navigation buttons in the end

  • Anon

Always irritates me that large digital media groups like the Daily Mail never mention Sony’s smartphones. LG, Samsung, Nokia and Apple seem to be the only manufacturers that exist in the media’s eyes.

Take a look at their website, they have articles for all the above phones from todays MWC, but nothing on Sony.

  • karamelakimo

    amazing amazing amazing :D

  • nidou bossy

at least a beautiful and premium design which this is what Samsung users/fans were waiting for.. but Samsung failed to provide these hopes to its costumers! regardless that I’m a Sony fan, and user since decades, and away from biasing or bashing… Sony has improved a lot in the last couple of years, also kept on with it’s unique and great design and build quality. Also Samsung is improving, but only in hardware and software, and rather staying almost in the same design and build quality philosophy since the born of S3 onward!

so the HATS up goes fairly in all aspects to Z2.

  • dr1xer

Samsung will always outsell Sony’s device, no matter what. Just a fact. Period.

  • sisore

After seeing S5 features, even without fanboyism, clearly Z2 is far better in almost every aspect.
Best flagship as of now I believe :v

  • Wolf

Hats off to Sony’s entire team. They have outdone themselves with the Z2 and Z2 Tablet. Looking forward to a Z Ultra 2 (:D). US carriers should be falling over themselves trying to sign on Sony phones… I have a feeling a small but important exodus is heading their way from Shame-sung.

  • Tjaldid

The S5 reeked of desperation, they just duck taped what everyone else was doing together to try to steal everyone’s marketshare, they were even aiming at a 64-bit processor but it wasn’t ready apparently.

  • Wolf

And wow. Sony was able to create actual video presentations that highlight the usefulness of their phone’s features and beauty while not pasting a pretty girl in there say “Wow your tech is so kewl, here’s my number!” I’m looking at you Shame-sung! I think they took a page right out of Axe Body Spray commercials…

Details Make the Difference… Sony Details… I love it!

  • Z3_ftw

heard the samesung band-aid decided to follow sony’s lead by making their flagship water and dust resistant as well. what a copy cat! that being said, i’m pretty they’d still be racking up sales because of their immense marketing campaign.

sony has the best phones but they really need a brilliant marketing strategy. not to mention that they only have t-mobile to sell off their phones as opposed to samsung’s being available in all networks.

  • z3_ftw

    *pretty sure

  • Quark Gluon

Maybe they were to test viewers’ attention to details. LOL. Joke aside, I don’t know if it was outsourced to 3rd party company, but seems like they really know how to make promo videos. I just love how they did it.

  • zairolafzal zainal

Love to xplore on z2 display… Look very amaze

  • LoL

The Z2 looks like the Z1 and Z.

The XS looks like the SL.

    Your point?

  • P9

    ALWAYS? seriously?

  • Z2 is good

To be honest this promote videos are worse than the Z1 and I really don’t like narrators’ voice :(

but this Sirius look more thinner and more stylish than Z1! it’s like the modern version of Z1 :D

  • Stevan Dj

yeah, Love how he says; Sony Details.!!!
    Sony FTW !!!

  • sreenamboothiri

SAMSUNG! please stop making crap plastic phones filled with all sensors u can get !!!
being waterproof doesn’t make you innovative…study what designing is!
Your Touchwiz still looks childish..except you copied NOKIA asha UI !!
This time Xperia got the eyes !!

We are not doctors !! We dont need your crap heart rate meter ..

  • nidou bossy

well, the Z2 is more improved in term of hardware, software and also design… build quality is still present in both… never seen in Samsung!

Xperia S was a flagship of 2012 , Xperia SL was not a flagship… was a same look like the S but with a slightly higher CPU frequency and bluetooth 3… Xperia T was the 2nd flagship of 2012 and it has a different design philosophy…

at least Sony has a premium build quality and a nice and unique design that samsung lacks!

    so, your point now?

  • nidou bossy

    the joke of the day!

    lmao :D

  • Colby Leong

HEY, there is a difference, the S4 had the disgusting plastic backing, while the S5 has more of a hardened band-aid feel. Totally different

  • Mirrorpurple

    so jelly

  • Colby Leong

Agreed, presently Sony doesn’t put out as many ads or carriers as Samsung. But at the same time, the S4 failed to impress last year, this year the S5 has a few new tricks, while it did better than the S4, which cant be hard, it seems like they’re slowing down a bit. You can only be king for so long, and while Samsung is currently “king” in the tech world we all know all they are really doing is keeping the seat warm for a throne that had been claimed, and ruled by Sony.

  • Colby Leong

Copy cat or not, the room for innovation is filling up fast, and if you can’t take what your competitors have done and make it better then you should just leave. This should push Sony to become even better.

  • Colby Leong

Also, on a side note, we all know Sony has a small history with there IP certification, and that history has gone great. While Samsung really only has the S4 Active, which if I remember correctly wasn’t too great, and many had to be returned. Even to a point where Samsung had one free replacement for AT&T customers with failed S4 Actives

  • zairolafzal zainal

That for sure… Sony still continue omnibalance legacy for 2014. Plus omnibalance still one year old comparing samsung and apple. This year maybe sony just playing around with omnibalance material to makes it even better .

  • Darren Gaspé

They keep saying attention to details yet the battery icon appears to be 4.3 in every video? Will the Z2 have this icon or is this a missed detail? Correct me if I’m wrong?

  • Mac

Now we only need a slimed down version in the 4.55″ district. But with same specs plus IR and then we have a z2 compact 2 replace my z1 compact with.

But make it slowly so I can give my Z1C a bit luv before I change this awesome piece of hardware.

  • Alfino Setya

Z2 is awesome and I want to get this one. I wonder how Xperia Z3 look like? It should have SD805.

  • Purnama

what video should i watch first?

  • roeshak

The display on the Z2 totally kills it for me and is really the only thing making me consider this device. The design too has been refined making it far more elegant than z1. It just proves that 6 months isn’t long enough to make a phone and what you end up with is really an early prototype design which is what the z1 was. The Z2 is certainly the finished article and with that incredible display and thin side bezels, I may be willing to overlook the large top and bottom bezels.
Samsung has gone very conservative this year indeed! I expected S5 to launch with the 805 cpu but it appears Samsung maybe planning to undercut its rivals this year. The S5 will certainty come in much cheaper than the Z2.
To cut it short, Sony’s now in pole position as far as hardware goes and I think they’re going to stay there from now on. Samsung looks to be exploring other ways of competing

  • Rishi Rathod

    It’s Awesome………..!!!
    <3 Michael <3 Sony <3

  • laci_csk

you right but I must admit this too: “And yet I bet S5 will sell more”

  • Dmitry Perets

I wonder when (and if) Sony will move to the “1 phone per year” model. Because as you said, it seems that Z2 is the real next generation of Z, fixed and improved. Z1 looks now as some uncertain intermediate product IMHO. Wouldn’t it be smarter to release one flagship per year? Less phones, more focus on each one of them, better updates and support etc… Like Sony does with tablets…

  • laci_csk

What about? That Soc lack LTE connection.

  • laci_csk

I hope this never happen. Go Sony go.

  • Alfino Setya

Now, Everyone can says “Dat Bezel” to Shamesung Galaxy S5! ROFL :-D

  • roeshak

And that’s right, if they don’t move to one flagship phone per year now that they’re are in pole position then their greed really knows no bounds. There is absolutely no reason to release another unfinished and rushed phone again in September with the 805 cpu. That should be reserved for next year. They should focus on throwing everything including the kitchen sink behind the Z2.they can however release a phablet with the ZL design language without waterproofing to rival the note series later this year.
They should really focus on support for this phone. It’s the best hardware on the market and certainly doesn’t need replacing anytime soon. It’s a real test for Sony that. Can they control their greedy instincts this year. Let’s wait and see!

  • rajiev

and galaxy s4 looklike galaxy s3,

  • Cmmdr Keen

Colby, again! I am treating you as a friend here so again don’t get butthurt, you said “there” again instead of “their” like you did yesterday

I’m going to get a lot of hate I know but here is the explanation: “their” is used when something belongs to someone. So IP belongs to Sony, Sony’s IP – “Their IP”. “There” would be used for a location, like “over there”. “They’re” is short for “they are”. Forgive me if it seems patronising but hey it’s the internet so you don’t have to pay attention but I say we are all trying to improve ourselves so why not?

  • Cmmdr Keen

I don’t know whether to go for Z1 compact, Z2 or Nokia Icon/930 for Europe as a replacement for my Xperia S. What about Sony Windows Phone, surely the Z2 is way more than capable

  • yeah

    805 vs 801

  • valentino

I like the Z2 and Z1 but I feel that sony just make a single project of a perfect phone and they sell to us per dateline.. think bout it the first one is xperia z..I bought it and come z ultra and z1 the better version of z. I think if we bought something that using a huge money we should get a fix perfect thing. Now the z1 user who see z2 they will feel that the z1 is not best yet as sony said and just feel like prototype users. I feel that when using z when z1 come out. The only phone I think innovative is xperia z ultra which I like and recommend. But still the z ultra lack flash and other if the z2 ultra came or z1 ultra came .. so should we consumer sell the phone with low price and bought the fixed one with a huge sum of money? This seems a soft rip off. So I think before sony make a new flagship I think its better when they already really fixed the issue and sell it. I don’t need flagship every year. I just need a fix perfect phone.

  • roeshak

All the people attacking Samsung need to pause for a moment. The smartphone game isn’t a beauty pageant, it’s a business and all about sales.
The Z2 definitely beats the S5 hands down but Samsung maybe be playing a clever tactical game.
They realize that software gimmickry won’t get them very far so they toned down on that this year. They’ve implemented the two most popular features from 2013 in the S5. Waterproofing from Sony and the fingerprint scanner from Apple. They’ve gone very conservative on hardware which is very unlike Samsung. They may perhaps be hoping to keep pricing down and undercut their rivals since they know they can’t win on hardware especially design.
If they price the S5 say £100 less than the z2, I’m sure consumers will think about that hard. Don’t forget, the Z2 has the size issue which will certainly put off many. That I know for certain.
This is by no means anywhere near as clear cut as Sony fans are making it to be. There’s still all to play for, good reviews didn’t get the HTC one very far and despite all the criticism, the Z shone brightly!
If Samsung go conservative on pricing, then that’ll cause a problem for Sony. We are living in a world of goggles under pricing of the nexus line and Samsung maybe responding to that. Sony is unfortunately with its pricing, acting like the nexus 5 doesn’t exist at under £300. Something they may yet rue.
I fully expected the S5 to spot the 805 cpu and Samsung’s decision not to include that as you’d expect is really making me wonder what they’re up to. I think it’s an attempt to keep pricing down and this may ultimately prove vital and decisive in the final analysis.
I haven’t mentioned htc but that’s because I believe they are about to unveil their swan song device. The last one before the administrators get called in to wind that ridiculous business minded company down and finally silence once and for all the American tech blogs. No offence if you’re American reading that, but their slavish fellowship of the HTC one is something I won’t forget for a while yet. That device was fundamentally flawed in a number of ways but for some inexplicable reason, they all overlooked these flaws and exaggerated it’s positives to near iPhone proportions.
To summarise, don’t count Samsung out yet, they may be playing a very crafty strategic game here!

  • Adi waru

Now i can Just waiting for Z2 Compact

  • valentino

Yeah I agree.. what I am afraid is samsung not inventing the smart phone again… maybe they want to make something new.. they have the resources and hardware.. or maybe the note 3 is too perfect that they stuck on that..XD.. me myself change from z ultra to note 3.. I love ultra really love it. But the camera make me sad..

  • Praveen K

No. That will not be a good idea. Guess, all the brands release 2 flagship phones every year. SG Note 3 and SGS4, LG G and G2, iPhone 5 and 5S etc. If we are going to compare SG4 and SG5, then we must compare Z and Z2 only. One thing SONY could do is to have separate series for 2 releases like Sammy.

  • Praveen K

Sammy also helped Sony for that. But thing i like about Sammy is that they have added a Heart Rate monitor. Will surely help those people who were expecting something out of this world.

  • Praveen K

Trend is changing. G2 is way better than S4 and it will be a shame for Z2, if we compare it to S5.

  • Dmitry Perets

Your comparison is not correct, at least not for Samsung.
SGS4 and SG Note 3 are aiming at different consumers. It is more like Xperia Z/Z1/Z2 versus Xperia Z Ultra / Z2 Ultra. This is fine, Even furthermore, Sony should also aim at mid-range and entry-level markets. So I mean not really “1 phone per year”, but “1 mainstream flagship per year”.

Most competitors actually release one mainstream flagship per year! Samsung – SGS4 and SGS5.
    The same is for Apple (they didn’t even have anything except for flagship until iPhone 5C): iPhone 4 – 2010, iPhone 4S – 2011, iPhone 5 – 2012, iPhone 5S – 2013, iPhone 6 – 2014.

  • valentino

I can expect the audio will be the improvement for the Z3..
Z to Z1 (many fixes since Z is a real prototype phone) end 2013
Z1 to Z2 (screen fix, software features) early 2014
Z2 to Z3 (sound, camera image processing so no artifacts again) early 2015
Z3 to Z4 (sound, camera, phone thinness) end 2015
    Z5 the complete dream.. 2016
move to new concept for 2016 – 2020

  • Richard Francisco

so much better than #bandaid #samesung

  • Richard Francisco

just one request sony PLEASE just release flagship once a year. release the z2 ultra on ifa that will compete with note and your flagship that will compete with s on mwc :P and please support your flagship for 2years on software updates.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

  • God Bless You
  • lightninglion

Sony needs to launch z2 in USA asap, the sony brand is fresh in people minds because of the ps4 hype, they need to capitalize on that, and run a massive ad campaign to promote the z2. Z2 still won’t sell as much as S5 but it will lay a solid foundation for z3 or whatever they call it. And peeps Samsung has been making plastic garbage since they came into the electronic business, plastic and pathetically cheap hardware is in their DNA.

  • Cmmdr Keen

you’re a gentleman for acknowledging it and changing it, onwards and upwards with our journey!

  • XXX

    Waiting for the Z Ultra 2 :)

  • xperiafan324

The windows phone from sony is rumoured to be a mid-tiered device and that too designed by an oem, not in-house at sony. So don’t for a second think that it’d be flagship quality. If you like the windows phone ui though, there are very good launchers for that in the play store.

A little googling on the Icon shows that the camera is good but not great (digitaltrends compared it to i5s camera and i5s gives better low light performance), has only single speaker at the back, some muffling issues in the phone speaker and ok but not great audio quality through headphones,no micro sd card, average battery ( average being the 10 hour usage mark), inexplicable lag in the live tiles and app openings (inexplicable because we know how powerful the s800 is),a polycarbonate unibody with metal edges, and just regular old 1080p recording.

Before anyone else says it, I am ONLY pointing out the bad in comparison to the z2. As Cmmdr Keen is contemplating it as his potential next in comparison to the z2 and z1 compact. Also of note, is the fact that the z2 has not seen any PROPER review level hands on yet by anyone in the press so there’s that to keep in mind.

  • xperiafan324

People said the same about Nokia not a long time ago.

  • i feel like a screaming fanboy for this phone i ordered it the second i could i only hope theres no anti shatter proof film OR that the logo is as always embedded in the film and not the phone itself i strongly prefer my phone not to have a sony logo at the front i mean look at this picture and say it looks ugly

  • Cmmdr Keen

sound advice, i think i’ll wait for some real reviews, i do like the form factor of the compact and fancied a change from android, especially with cortana and other features coming but the z2 is very tempting as it quite simply the best hardware out there in the world right now (or next month when released)

  • Darren Gaspé

They keep saying attention to details yet the battery icon appears to be 4.3 in every video? Will the Z2 have this icon or is this a missed detail? Correct me if I’m wrong?

  • Trafficare

Cmmdr Keen I agree with you 100% on this . English is English and should be written properly as should any language be treated with the utmost of respect.

  • Trafficare

Why do you have to lower yourself to using this sort of racist talk?

  • Cmmdr Keen

exactly Trafficare, but it’s not that the English language is rigid, it is dynamic and ever evolving but in order for us to give the language freedom we first need to have a good control of it ourselves

  • Divya Bharathi

Very interesting thing I just come across at – I could choose any number of pants and shirts (from the list) at very heavy discount rates (up to 75% off online) – more we buy more discount – I never seen this before.
