Xperia Z firmware certified (14.1.B.0.101) – unlikely to be KitKat; probably transposition error

Xperia Z_14.1.B.0.101Earlier today, Sony certified a new firmware version in the form of build number 14.1.B.0.101. Initially, we got very excited thinking that the move from ‘10.4’ firmware to a ‘14.1’ build likely signified an Android 4.4.2 KitKat certification.

However, looking at the build number in full, there is a good chance that this could be a transposition error by the PTCRB. The last known firmware release for the Xperia Z, with build number 10.4.1.B.0.101, never hit the PTCRB previously. This version number has a strong similarity to the recently certified version – 14.1.B.0.101 versus 10.4.1.B.0.101. It looks like the PTCRB potentially missed a ‘0’, although we haven’t seen mistakes like this in the past. Whatever comes of this, we’ll keep you informed.

Xperia Z_14.1.B.0.101

Thanks Levered and Rodrigo!

  • Giannikosmo

My heart beated sooo fast when I readed the title!!

  • Danny

has the Xperia Z C6602 and C6603 all have 4.3 Android already? My Xperia Z C6606 is still on 4.2.2

  • Satveer Ghuman

I know that’s what I thought before, go connect your Sony Xperia Z to PC companion for 4.3 jellybean and very good battery optimization update.

  • Satveer Ghuman

Wait yours not C6602 or C6603 you must have bell exclusive.

  • [A]dri[A]n

I sure hope it’s KitKat! My Z would be perfect with some KitKat :)

  • Danny

Close… I have T-Mobile USA variant, C6606. which is running on 4.2 JB.

  • iainbong

    Same here! Sigh..

  • Wolf0491

    Yeah carriers sucks

  • Reyoch Ch

    xperia zr also c5502

  • Satveer Ghuman

OK I think the problem is only the USA T-mobile and Bell Canada North American version’s can only be updated by the carrier, mine’s a overseas C6602 and I updated it through PC companion, not Update center WiFi on phone. JUST GIVE IT A TRY!!!! hope carriers push faster updates. Well if you want 4.4 kitkat today you can have it via root. Xperia themes even let you change home soft keys so you don’t have to have those ugly Google keys.Good Luck!

  • kater

maybe PTCRB forget to pay their wages on time:-D

I think it’s a database error, because there’s no “10.4.1.B.0.101” in the list, whic is the up2date FW. However, hope dies last

  • xperiaz6603swe

    its for sure 4.4.2 :)

  • nnnn

i wish kitkat come really soon, with tap2wake and app like refocus(nokia) or magic touch(lg) or selective focus(samsung). Background defocus isnt enough. z deserve this!

  • tony_trini

    i am hoping it is … beacuse 4.3 srarted @ 10.1 an end @10.4 so 4.4 can start @ 14.1

Xperia z to have kit kat and change your keyboard is a little too small

  • Vitali

Why does the Tablet Z WIFI SGP-311/312 Doesn’t have his own page in PTCRB???

  • Praveen Jaladanki

the ‘569’ update was certified on dec 16, 2013. it was officially announced on dec 26, 2013.

now, the ‘14.1.B.0.101’ is certified on mar 13, 2014. i hope the announcement comes next week.

  • Praveen Jaladanki

i know the feel bro! however XZ is not the flagship anymore, is it? I guess that’s why the delay. The new firmware version suggests XZ is being taken into the league of big guys like XZ2, XZ1, XZ1c etc.

  • Praveen Jaladanki

How many of you would like to be able to write on Sony XZ using an ordinary pencil like other sony phablets..?

  • victor aguilar

so, what is 4.4 coming to Xperia Z???? is taking too long!

  • Keon Fraites

So, I haven’t heard any word on if this is a bug or not. I’m taking it as real because it haven’t been changed as yet

  • AsadMulla

    got this update today, 26/03/14

  • Keon Fraites

Bump, no news on 4.4 XZ yet? :<

Very interesting thing I just come across at – I could choose any number of jewellery items (from the list) at very heavy discount rates (up to 75% off online) – more we buy more discount – I never seen this before.
