Xperia Keyboard lands in Google Play Store

Xperia Keyboard Play StoreSony continues to separately publish some of its core apps away from its stock ROMs. This time round it has pushed the “Xperia Keyboard” into the Google Play Store. This is the default keyboard that is installed on all new Xperia phones and includes all languages except Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The keyboard offers a swiping experience as well as the traditional tapping method.

The build offered through the Play Store is version number 6.4.A.0.6. This is a newer version compared to what is installed on current KitKat Xperia builds, with version number 6.3.A.0.18. We found that the new build can only be installed on Sony Xperia devices running Android 4.4.2 KitKat. So you may well find that you are unable to install the latest update even if you have a Sony Xperia device. Sony says new features for this build includes backup and sync using your Sony Entertainment Network account and a new improved layout for the Thai language.

Xperia Keyboard Play Store

    First Comment :D

  • The current Thai keyboard layout is annoying. Hopefully it will be usable in this build.

  • Technojo

Damn, I wish I could use it on my 4.3 Xperia T :(

  • I’m captain

Never mind, I get used to old Thai keyboard pattern on my Xperia S (which was stuck on Android 4.1 because lack of essential driver) for several months, not really comfortable but tolerable (minimal, most of Thai users) complaint it very hard to use and change to 3rd party alternative.

Sony really needs to update the design of the English keyboard. The space key is way too small and constantly hitting the period key gets annoying. Until Sony updates the layout I will keep using the Google keyboard. Also the MMS app for Sony phones needs some work too. I was hoping they would fix it in the Kit Kat update for the Z1 but it didnt happen.

You can remove the period key and also the smiles key and the space key will be huge… -_-

  • Timbo1

Yeah I spoke too soon, I always just replaced the keyboard.

Am I the only one who prefers the old (original) Xperia Z keyboard? The new one is rubbish. If you make a mistake you have to delete the incorrect word letter by letter (and it makes too many mistakes – eg today I wanted to type HITS and it followed my finger fine 75% of the way but as soon as I swyped to the letter S it changed to word to HIS. WTF?!!), the old one let you press delete twice and the whole word would disappear. Also, you can’t set it so that it doesn’t create a space automatically – so for example if I want to type peaching I have to type peach back space then add ing, before I could type peach then add ing without having to backspace.
Also, why isn’t there a cancel word gesture? So if i’m swyping and the wrong word suggestion comes up I can swype away from the keyboard and the whole word disappears. Instead I have to accept the completely wrong predicted word then delete the damn thing letter by letter and try to swype again or type it manually.

Any way to get the old XZ keyboard back?

Why only on the Sony Xperia devices running Android 4.4.2 KitKat???, this is unfair for the most Sony devices! :'(

  • dsfdsf

You could search for it and install the .apk.

  • asdasd

Because they’re pushing the consumers to buy the newer devices. I’m sorry :p.

My Z1 Compact got the latest 4.4.2 update (US T-Mobile). I think I’ll skip this and stay with the almost dead on Google Keyboard. It just works so well!

When will sony know that de flemish/dutch speaking part of Belgium is using Azerty?

We’ve got the option between using qwerty or European French settings and no use of autocorrect…

Is it really that hard to add azerty support for Belgium?

  • nafatha

    I Love It!

  • Nidou

  • Lucian

  • jangaleon

root your phone. i have this keyboard. lol

I actually loved the 4.3 Xperia Z keyboard. I thought it was one of the best stock keyboards out there. The only problem I had with it was that the space bar was way too small.

I have Xperia Z1, and i got an update for this via Play Store, and i noticed one thing, i don’t know anybody else has seen it or not, but when you type something related to emoji’s , it gives suggestion to use an particular emoji. for example – if i type OK then emoji for OK comes into the suggestion and i can choose emoji or write OK, choice is mine. I think it’s a Pretty Nice Feature if someone uses emojis for chating and stuff.
