sony-smartwatch-3-a-sonysm3Sony has confirmed that the SmartWatch 3 will launch at the end of this month. We recently saw the SmartWatch 3 listed on the Google Play Store in the US. In addition, Verizon Wireless has today commenced pre-orders for the SmartWatch 3 at $249.99. Pre-orders are also live in Europe through the Sony Mobile Store and third-party retailers such as Amazon’s UK and German sites.

The SmartWatch 3 sports some impressive specifications including 1.6-inch (320 x 320) transflective TFT LCD display, 1.2 GHz quad-core A7 processor, 512MB RAM, GPS, 4GB internal storage, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance and a 420mA battery which Sony says is good for “up to 2 days normal use”.

  • I’m keeping my eye on this one, especially if they ever consider a metal style band for better fashion sense. While I do enjoy my Moto 360, the GPS and WiFi hardware in this have me intrigued.

I hear ya on the GPS and WiFi. They should come up with a band that fits like a ring around the timepiece that allows for interchangeable straps, including metal and leather. I would have preferred the round Xperia button too.

Does the black thing at the bottom of the 360 bother you? Does it lag at all?

  • Ambroos

GPS, yes. WiFi, no. Cool thing about the GPS is that developers don’t have to update their apps, as long as they’re using Googles fused location provider it’ll automatically select the best location source available (phone > watch, if phone is available, for example).

  • The Truth

sorry but who’s going to buy this Sony watch,

    Gear S is more innovative

moto 360 and G Watch R are much more beautiful

  • Ambroos

It depends really. The SmartWatch 3 will have by far the best battery life and most features. Offline GPS can be very nice during runs. I don’t know about the G Watch R, but it definitely does better than the G Watch when it comes to looks.

I’ve been using this Watch since last friday and can’t tell you how big disappointment it is. All these “out of the box” features promised by Sony aren’t there. No Lifelog support, no Walkman, no remote for Sony’s Wifi-cameras or even the phone’s camera. And not even a word will they fix this situation soon. This launch is just a big joke. I’m so pissed that i spent $229 and pre-ordered this POS.
