Sony E6553 (Xperia Z4) appears in benchmark; leaks possible specs

by XB on 30th March 2015

in Rumours, Xperia Z4 and Z3+ series

imagesThe Sony E6553 has made an appearance in benchmark program GFXBench. This is not the first time we have seen this model, the Sony E6533 has been seen previously. The likelihood is that this Sony E65XX model will be the upcoming Xperia Z4 flagship.

GFXBench leaks a number of specifications of the device which includes a 5.1-inch (1080 x 1920) display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset (1.9GHz octa-core processor and Adreno 430 graphics).

Other specs include 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a 20.7MP rear camera and 5.0MP front-facing camera (in line with the Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia Z4 Tablet). As you would expect, the Sony E6553 is running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. So what do you think – is there enough here to justify an upgrade? We’d love to hear your thoughts below.

    Oh no 4K display?

  • Rock Kickass

Considering I have a Z1 then I would say this is very much worth the upgrade. Glad I haven’t upgraded yet and I’m also glad I waited. Let’s hope the Z4 arrives at the same time as the Z4 Tablet

  • debianQml

  • Tsakane

    Waste of battery

  • I love my Z2, but I’d be very intrigued in a Z4 Compact. Barring that, I may still consider a Z3 Compact later this year.

  • ash

    Exactly, full hd is enough

  • Aniss Kaïs

    I’m happy with my Z2

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Totally S810 is not a good option when it comes performance and battery.

  • Camilo Uribe

I will get this for sure! Now I’m a proud owner of Z2.

  • ????

It’s a clever step that Sony didn’t implement 2K or 4K display. Extra-high resolution is useless when screen size is 5 inch. So we may expect a good battery life

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Agree on S810 but not 4K display. I don’t think it kills battery that much, if you checked HTC M9 and Samsung S6 they got the same endurance time. Yet HTC is on 1080p but S810 failed because it’s heating a lot.

  • Tim Rox Westerholm

  • Ryan Kumar Jassi

Since I recently upgraded from the Z to the Z2 im happy but wouldve liked to get the Z4 my only fault with the Z4 is the price hence why I didnt wait I know for a fact the Z4 will price over £400 and to get a Z2 brand new for £220 it was worth it so personally I dont think id need to upgrade since id only be getting a better processor adreno 430 slightly smaller display a better front and back camera and more storage for an extra £200-350 its not worth it personally

  • Screens of phones and tablets are too small for the human eye to see the difference between QHD and 4K.

  • NIK

It is true WQHD display is waste of battery, but I little disappointed.

  • Ryan Kumar Jassi

Whats the point in upgrading to a z3 compact? Youll be getting a smaller screen and lower resolution the only good thing is tge extra 200mhz on the processor and 12800 iso on the camera that said its not a worthy upgrade but thats your choice

  • Camilo Uribe

Me too. But I want to change it for christmas hahaha

  • Rammstone

I’m still on Xperia Z so yeah I would say this is worth the upgrade. I’ve been waiting for 32gb internal storage. I’m surprised it has taken this long

  • Vinicius Araujo

Sony underclocked the Snapdragon 810 to 1.9ghz because this processor really overheats. A small sacrifice on performance that will bring better battery life and less overheating.

  • jag

FHD is enough for me. I just want z4 to be out by june! Please!

  • Nawi

    New camera sensor?
    Please, yes

  • Sachin Gautam

Ready for Z5, this is imbecile decision all same specs

  • sowieso3000

A smaller display than the xperia z3? Strange.

  • Guest

Why did they (or maybe not) downgrade the amount of MegaPixel? The 20.7 MP is good!

  • FF

  • FF
  • zzz44

Wtf… For this shit are you cancel the release in february?:)) no interesant upgrade…. Only 810… But… Nonono thx… Fuck you sony whit this shit …

  • Faisal Armand

Actually if you multiply 5248 * 3936, you will get 20.66 million –> 20.7 megapixels.

What’s interesting is.. Nokia lumia 930 & 1520 actually has 18.6MP camera. (from multiplying 4992 * 3744) But Nokia decided to market both as 20MP

  • haxona

A lot of these functions are locked out from 3rd party apps. They are only on when using the camera apps from Sony. So rest assured.

  • Ibrahem Salah

I wont upgrade my z2 anymore at least for more 1-2 years no need superfluous upgrades that i wont use anyway
FHD display is fine on youtube 98% are FHD or lower
Quad-Core 2.3 Ghz it’s like Quad Core Laptop processor what else i need
if i want a better camera i will buy professional camera because professional camera dominate smartphone cams
    Glad that i picked z2

  • JiaWei

    1. Close to 5 inch display, check
    2. Good camera, check
    3. Large storage, check
    4. Better than my Xperia Z, check

Whatever it is, my hands are small and it looks like it has all the specs I need. Hopefully it looks as good as my Z though…

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z4 llegaría con pantalla FullHD | - Las noticias de tecnología a tu alcance.()

  • rubinaish

Somehow, my Z is still working really good. Camera, display and processor are good. Battery lasts two days. And I can wait a bit longer for Lollipop. Only the flap on the headphone jack and the missing dedicated camera button annoy me. Besides that… No reason to upgrade.

Too bad about the 810. Even if manufacturers manage to get around the overheating there has been too much negative publicity that has really tarnished its reputation.

Even “leaked rumors” of the G4 says LG is going for the 808 instead of the 810

  • shhh

    S810 though.

  • Shaik Farooq

    Z2 FTW!

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Although, from the Z3 and Z3 Compact battery life we all know Sony would’ve been able to handle a those types of displays pretty well

  • Vuyo Ncube

Hopefully the SD810 is working properly! Beastly battery life and no overly aggressive thermal throttling please!

  • Nemanja Nemanjic

    I think it’s not Z4 :)

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Exactly 2K 4K wouldn’t be a problem software can get that handled.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Hmmm hope someone comes with a good 64bit quad-core SoC instead of having octa core.

  • Vuyo Ncube

The 808 is basically a 64 bit 805 (comparable GPUs). The Android 64-bit flagship race is sucking HARD so far. GS6 has worse battery life than the GS5 even with a better process node, more efficient RAM and components and more streamlined software, G Flex 2 laggedway more than the G Flex in the PocketNow review, HTC downclocked the One M9 to avoid overheating and has worse battery life than the M8. The extra time Sony has better mean something.

  • Amimanot

Yo, XB! This popped up when i opened walkman today

  • Kamil1308

Any reason for not having HDR photo ??

  • wared

That’s disappointing, sony can’t compete with Samsung with this spec, it needs new spec like 4GB ram, and new features like for an example 3D display and camera (just an idea).

  • Lunkz

Storage 23GB? So I guess it will be 32GB Model, maybe we see 64GB Model …

  • Kozzy

Lollipop for Z3 Central Europe 1 is now available for download ;)

  • Vwake Nova

    Luv my Xz3

  • ash

still its useless for a small display as 5 inch. I have 4k TV and I am happy with that ;)

  • Jaouad

Happy with my Z2 and will probably use it for a year or two before looking to something new

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z4 también se deja ver por GFXBench, estas serían sus especificaciones | - Las noticias de tecnología a tu alcance.()

  • Lunkz

4GB RAM would be enough, 3D is just a hype, camera nah, they should work instead on the software and hardware of the cam…

  • ash

I dont know what you wanna watch on 4k display in India?

  • Deki

I have Z1 and I am still happy with it…

  • Qays Muhammad

With all the new rumoured high end 600 and 800 series SoCs coming out they are octa-core based. The only variation is the use of either all the same core like the rumoured 625 having 8 Cortex A53 cores versus the newer 815/820 using the Little.Big setup. Quad core is enough for a phone but that is now being reduced to lower end chipsets.

  • Qays Muhammad

The only reason Z3 and Z3 Compact have good battery life is because of the more efficient SD801 chipset and the 1080p screen. If they increase resolution there will be a big drop in battery life like with the LG G3.

  • pytajnik

I hope they’ll finally include a good camera with an OIS and the volume output which won’t be as pathetic as in the Z3, but if not, I won’t be even that sad thanks to Samsung and their S6.

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

    He is from SriLanka

  • David Lovell

I am waiting for Z4 as upgrade to my current great Z2!!

  • DavidBaik(????????)

… Is is not 4GB ram? and don’t support HDR photo?
How did you call it Xperia Z4?

  • ff

    Look at Z3 Benchmark.
    It has HDR…
So thats cant be the reason.

  • Luis

From a Z Ultra, yes. Would definitely be better if they release a Z4 Ultra

  • Benjamin Levy

Not everyone wants or needs a phone with a large screen.

I’m quite happy with my choice of a Z3 Compact.

  • Ryan Kumar Jassi

True but your not gaining alot your loosing more by paying for a z3c but thats your choice

  • Zidhin Mohd

z-z1 some good tweaks.. Z1-z2 few tweaks.. Z2-z3 any tweaks..? Z3-z4.. Again.. Hardly noticeable tweaks Other than the front cam

  • Emil Oskarsson

may i remind oyu that we are talking about Sony here? They are pros on battery life ;) And yes the first prototype versions of snapdragon 810 did overheat, however the final s810 runs cooler and draws less power then snapdragon 801 and 805 :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Is this the phone that will replace my wonderful Xperia Z? :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah you should be proud over your Z2, its and awesome phone :D

It pisses me off that I can’t use “PlayStation Music” through the Walkman app anymore! I woke up this morning and was expecting the new service to be integrated with the Walkman app. Vexed. Although I should have expected that considering TrackID stopped integrating with Walkman about a week ago.

  • No surprise that Sony devices run old software versions. Anyway I agree with you: I expect Android 5.1

  • Vasilis K.

Yeah. That’s why I’ll probably stick to my great Z1C for long-long time!

  • charbel aoun

I would like the Z4 as 5.5 inch QHD display, 32GB , 4GB RAM, camera 25 MP with HDR+ and OIS, Selfie cam 5 MP, Q snapdragon 810 & 2 days battery life with Android 5.1. I’m very disappointed. I will buy the Z2.
    Sony flagship overview:
    V > Z good upgrade
    Z > Z1 good upgrade too
    Z1 > Z2 little tweaks
Z2 > Z3 no difference. Anyone saw the difference? :p
    Z3 > Z4 worst ever

  • Vasilis K.

Hey guys! You didn’t think of one possibility. What if that’s the Z4 Compact??? Then THAT would be great specs, wouldn’t be?!!! :P

  • George

    dude are you drunk ?

you are wrong Z2 was big upgrade from Z1 5.2 ips screen stereo speakers bigger battery (one of the best devices in that department) better specs in camera 4K video recording better image quality noise cancelling headphones more slimmer design

  • Adam

Well, I hope that 5,1inch screen is a lie! Sony needs to give a choice to people who want bigger screen phone. I hope that sony xperia z4 rumours are true..

    3GB Ram?
    32GB internal storage?
LoL Sony is fucking stupid and very underdeveloped
at least the Z4 should comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB internal storage

The Xperia Z4 comes later and still has nothing special than competitors like Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, just wonder who still is going to buy this coming up flagship phone from Sony

android world already has Samsung as the king and Chinese brands as the very worth choices , have no space for Sony anymore! Sony is so annoying and so boring indeed.

    Samsung Galaxy S6 series wins!

  • Steve12321

32GB of internal storage should be the bare minimum for a few years already.
HDR is a software feature, not hardware, so the benchmark is very obviously wrong.
A 5.5” screen would be too big, just notice that only LG does their flagship at those sizes and they are far from being the sales leader.
QHD (1440p) is useless with such a small screen; or, stating it better, I’d rather have a better battery life than a very small resolution increase coupled to a loss in battery life.
4GB RAM would be nice, yes. RAM is always nice to have.
AFAIK this is a new sensor. Going to a bigger resolution would require a bigger lens, ours is already right at the Rayleigh limit for a 21MP 1/2.3 sensor . Bigger resolution or bigger sensor would necessarily mean a thicker phone. Yeah, I’d make this trade, but the market wouldn’t.
This has all the rest of what you said. I’m guessing at the 2-day battery life (but the Z3C makes me believe it’s possible), and Android 5.1 will come in the future. Besides, it’s not a big upgrade. It adds:

    – Ability to join Wi-Fi networks and control paired Bluetooth devices from quick settings (Sony has this)
    – Support for multiple SIM cards (Sony has this)
    – Device protection: if a device is lost or stolen it will remain locked until the owner signs into their Google account, even if the device is reset to factory settings. (only interesting point really)
    – High-definition voice calls, available between compatible devices running Android 5.1 (useless, but can be added by Sony on 5.0.x)
    – Return of the silent mode, which was removed in Android 5.0. (also can be added)

BTW, the “worst ever” phrase can NEVER be used for anything but the iPad Mini 2 –> iPad Mini 3 upgrade.

  • Timel

New camera sensor but same old shitty software?

  • Dan

It’s cannot be Xperia Z4. No HDR 19mp and 5.1″ maybe it’s new series of phone but not Z4

  • tong_its

Lollipop has landed in Manila for the Z3 tablet compact…

  • GigaSPX

Let’s see where the money is to put in your big mouth of yours if you’re that privileged to pay for that cost amount of memory.
And I guess you would like to take a step backwards in buying non-waterproof phones with no external memory storage like Samsung/Apple.

  • Adam

According to my info, there will be only a modified sensor of xperia z3, unfortunately no new curved sensor which sony presented several months ago, pity..

  • hmmm

z4 should have 4gb ram,32 gb storrage,sd card slot, and most of all other camera, better than z3 one,or why update?just for snapdragon 810? z3 is still flying so why change it,if there’s nothing new?????

  • jack

win what? that ugly piece of shit? most Chinese brand is better than S6.

  • Vuyo Ncube

HTC was forced to downclock (1.5 GHz from 2.0 GHz) the One M9 to keep it cooler than other chipsets. It was probably crippled in performance in the process. I personally don’t mind a little performance loss for cooling and better battery life if the GPU was unaffected but it’s still a waste of money and loss of trust on Qualcomm’s part.

  • Pingback: Sony renunciaría al 2K para la pantalla del futuro Z4 |()

  • gamer324

Glad to see a 1080p screen instead of 2k, now if only Sony puts in the RGBW OLED one made by JDi.
Let’s hope by keeping the thickness the same, Sony can manage to improve the internal heat dissipation; I still remember the amazing job they did with the Z Ultra, 6.5 mm thin and no overheating issues.
On another note, does anyone here think that Sony would use Qualcomm’s Sense ID in the z4? Would be cool if they do, and with the G4 rumored to have a fingerprint sensor, Sony’d do well to add a superior biometric security feature..especially with their recent push for Xperias for Business.

  • gamer324

It’s still early, and Sony could possibly update to 5.1 for launch build, remember that the leaks are basically the thinnest od triclkes right now, indicating a rather tight experimental environment; by that I mean nothing is probably ‘final’ for the Z4 other than the device size.

I’m glad that sony still stay with Full HD, whatever it would be very good if the Xperia Z4 will comes up with OLED display

  • parental92

im pretty much agree with a couple of points in your comment.

if i may, let me correct a couple of things there. bigger resolution doesnt require bigger lens, neither does bigger sensor, well bigger sensor may require modification on the lens element, but not bigger.

i would prefer downgrade on resolution to 15 mpx, just so that the noise on low light will be better controlled. the size of the sensor is fine, really.

  • parental92

  • I’m really glad to see Sony sticking to their statement, acknowledging that 2K or anything higher is simply overkill on a smartphone. It’s the same reason why Sony still uses 720p displays in their Compact smartphones, and I couldn’t be happier.

The battery life of Sony devices is already good but that’s no excuse to make it mediocre again by using a high resolution display that you probably don’t enjoy much more anyway. When I’m gaming on my Z1 I can’t even enjoy full HD gameplay because I’d have to be watching so closely that I’d strain my eyes. And to be honest, for a while I thought GTA: SA ran at 1080p as well until one day I looked closer. Well, I think it’s only 720p. I still can’t tell for sure.

The only think that would make me upgrade from the Z3C is a new compact with everything the Z3C has, same size, plus OIS, built-in Qi wireless charging…and NO LOLLIPOP.

Or at least a fixed Lollipop with proper mute and customization that allows me to put the notification shade back in black instead of that vomit colour, and no white backgrounds with colourful headers (all these design things can be easily done by Sony opening up even further the Xperia Theme engine)

  • Sakuraba

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    You’re just a troll as always :D

  • haxona

The difference is design and a tiny bit better display. Both use 801 with the z3 clocked 200mhz more which basically means nothing. The camera is actually optimized better on z2 at least it was on 4.4.4

  • Itsarapong Intoum

I just found a review that compare a difference between M4 aqua and Z3 and notice that a both camera on M4 aqua produce much better quality than Z3.

This is the reason why I’m going to change from my Z1 to this Z4.

I’m thinking about upgrading from my Z1 later this year. I’m thinking around September if its out by then. By then I would have had my Z1 for 2 years.

  • [S]unjay

Slow SDs? You’re not being forced to use it. You wouldn’t be saying that if the Z3 did not have SD and the S6 had it.

Every phone is water resistant to some degree. This thing is not IP certified.

Great, it took Samsung long enough to get it!

  • Steve12321

In our case, it does. It requires a physically bigger aperture IF you want to capture information on each pixel. Our lens is at the very edge where its Airy diameter is about the same size as one pixel. If we get a bigger resolution on the same sensor and lens size, the Airy diameter stays the same (as it’s a function of lens aperture) and the pixels get smaller, so the image for one pixel will just get diffused around the nearby pixels. See this:

The Airy disk for our lens is of 2.7 micrometers. With 20.7MP, the circle of confusion (meaning the size of an Airy disk where a pixel’s image would get diffracted to nearby pixels) is 2.92 micrometers; so, we’re very near the limit but still safe for most wavelengths. If you go for 25MP with the same lens and sensor size, the circle of confusion goes to 2.66 micrometers, which is below the Airy diameter; so our resolution would be limited by the optics, not by the sensor.

I would like a Nokia 808-style huge sensor with f/1.8 lens. Sony should keep their resolution advantage over the competition, and improve the noise reduction and oversampling algorythms. Say, a 32MP, 1/2” sensor with 1/1.8 lens with oversampling should produce 16MP images that completely blow away anything Samsung&cia have to offer. If they were to compete against 16MP cameras with a 15MP unit, they’d lose their perceived advantage in the marketplace. Look at the backslash against HTC with their “Ultra Pixel” cameras…

  • 5u5m1t

The failings of the 810 gives Nvidia the perfect chance to get their Tegra processors in the game again.

  • Adhi Suryana

S6 edge dead in the end of video, did you even watch it before?

  • Adhi Suryana

Don’t mind him, he’s living under rock

  • Adhi Suryana

Same sensor, but this time with OIS, they might call them “Optical Steady Shot”

  • Sakuraba

Oh, I apologize, the 10 people that actually give a shit to notice the difference between Hi-Res audio of Sony and HD audio will for sure put Sony ahead in the market.

  • Sakuraba

It lasted how long for a phone that doesnt even market waterproofing? And had he let it dry out it might have survived . I think it died from being charged right after the bath. Way to nitpick

  • Sakuraba

I’ll take a UFS and a consistent experience over a slow internal nand with SD expansion

  • Sakuraba

Tablet only has what like 4 times as much space to dissipate heat? Doesn’t have to throttle or be limited to 1.5ghz. Even unthrottled it’s still not as strong as the Exynos

This time.. Only this time i have to agree with you, mr Troll. 64/128gb is a must this time.. It’s a flagship after all.

  • Dean Weaver

What here makes me want to spend a lot, rather than keep what I’ve got. Sony are not doing very well at making me want to spend….

  • Raj Singh

O that’s awesome. Thanks for sharing that bit of info.
Do you have a link by any chance?

  • Akand

This is the first time tht I can agree with you.

  • Nawi

    Great =)

  • Akand

Maybe I don’t know what capable of as I am not an expert. But I just know that for me 3 GB is not enough if it is an Xperia ddevice. Because with KitKat at least 75% RAM is always full. Even it has no opened app. Only with background processes 75% full and two heavy App together run, device lags…
However, it’s my personal experience on Xperia Z1.
But same things run very smoothly on Xperia Z2 what has 3 GB RAM.
    I own both devices.
**I am a hard fanboy of Sony but of Xperia, not anymore!!!**

  • robertkoa

Ironically the main upgrade needed is Better Camera and the typical speed increase of 64 bit 2015 Devices.

IF Sony does not upgrade their Camera lens and Software UP to Apple and Samsung ( which use Sony Sensors) they will be like HTC One M9 one or two tiers below on Cameras to current top performers.

SONY must also overcompensate IMO due to the fact that they are undermarketed here in USA.
They need to up the QC and performance.

  • Adhi Suryana

I’m really hoping they will bring full HD quantum dot display like in the new bravia tv, instead of just pixel peeping display XD

  • GregLu

And me with my Z3. Upgrade the damn flash Sony !!

  • GregLu

I will believe this when I will see it with my own eyes :)

  • [S]unjay

You’ll be back after running out of free space….

  • [S]unjay

    NAND or camera flash?

  • P1l0t3

I hold my Z3 purchase (coming from Iphone 5s) when I heard of Z4.
I was really disappointed by new iPhone designs and as their planned obsolescence is already affecting my 5s, I watched the android market (ignoring BB on purpose). Sony did get out of the crowd by the design, the proofing and light touch on android. However I am more about the “compact” version of the phone rather than phablet size. In the list of versions rumored for the Z4 I did not see the Z4C. But, correct me if i’m wrong, the Z3C came with 3Gb of RAM when the Z3 was delivered with 4. As this benchmark stated 3Gb of RAM, would it be the Z4C tested ? That would be a good news for me. If not, i’ll go Z3C…
    What do you think ?

  • Matea1905

    Z2 is the best!

  • GregLu

The power of the camera flash ;)

It’s nowhere near some Samsung / HTC / LG (Specially G3) or even iPhone !

  • skyxz

Z3c houses 2 GB of RAM whereas Z3 was released with 3 GB RAM.

  • skyxz

Does HTC employ a sony sensor or a toshiba sensor?

  • May Czos

You’d be suprised but resolution doesn’t change power consumption by much. Screen’s size and brightness are more important.

  • May Czos

You know it died after that test, right?

  • May Czos

SD810 draws more power, HTC One M8 with SD801 has better battery life than the M9 with SD810 even though the latter one has bigger battery.

  • May Czos

No IMX230? It seems I’m waiting for Z5 Compact then…

  • May Czos

Old camera sensor and probably old image processing.

  • May Czos

It’s to early, Sense ID is not ready. Maybe in the Z5.

  • May Czos

Yes and they have a right to do that – they’re paying shitloads of money for their new phones.

  • May Czos

  • May Czos

Nvidia pocessors are craps, they heat up even more while draining the battery.

  • May Czos

HDR is a software function, not part of hardware.

  • May Czos

It’s a software function, they can enable and disable it any time.

  • May Czos

Exynos in the S6 is heating up (and throttles) as well.

  • May Czos

2560×1440 is 2,5K display to be specific.

  • May Czos

Higher resolution makes GPU work harder but it doesn’t kill the battery.

  • May Czos
  • May Czos

I don’t think it’s the Z4. Part of the name (“E6”) sounds right but double “5” in the middle? Maybe it’s some Japanese variant for domestic market only?

  • ho

no they are not crap they are really great
the heating issue is deepends on processor clocking speed
any processor that stay more at highest speed will heat and drain battery faster

  • vigneshprince

yeah me too! there is no major change to upgrade to any of mobiles after Z2. Happy with Z2.

  • Jim Peterson

Lol, “secretly waterproof” = completely ruined from one inch of water.

  • $27593076

funny to see your insecurity by just seeing “leaked” specs and comparing it to phone that already launched.. lol

  • haxona

Unfortunately they have now decided against it which is IMO so freaking stupid. At this time its nowhere close to ready.

Well a Z4 is definitely a good upgrade from the Z… which i will be doing. If you have a Z2 or Z3 and you upgrade it to a Z4, that’s just to show IMO; as those 2 phones are good phones anyways. Well, only time can tell now…

  • skyxz

Both? Ultrapixel is a custom image Sensor. What about the 20 mp sensor?

  • tazcubed

In a sense, I cannot see any reason to change from my Z1 at this point. Unless Sony gets on board with upgrading the RAM significantly, improving the screen and finally getting around to some kind of biometric access, it’s falling behind. I still have high hopes, but the differences between the Z2/Z3 and Z4 just aren’t enough to justify a move.

  • tazcubed

Yeah, but the difference is that the Sony won’t die after being in water for a half hour. In this case, when the guy pulled the Samsung from the water to restart the screen, that’s when the bubbles started coming out, so it’s possible that it was a lucky break with the way that the phone sat in the water. It’s obviously not waterproof or water resistant – it was luck that it lasted as long as it did. I agree charging it wasn’t the best thing to do, but I also think that the test in itself is flawed.

  • May Czos

That’s the one I was talking about. They’re using either Toshiba or Sony on different markets.

  • May Czos

But Nvidias are worse than all competitors.

  • blkjack

I am user of Z3 Dual Sim and it would be better if Z4 comes with fingerprint system , 4 GB RAM and without caps for sim card and charger slots .Also there is a Sd card slot must be.

  • Qays Muhammad

Well the more pixels you output on display the greater the demand on the CPU/GPU to keep the experience smooth. Same theory as with graphics rendering on any computer you need more powerful hardware and/or more power draw from the chipset. It is a fine balance that is more unforgiving on a mobile handset That’s all.

  • mikexilva

You are almost right, but in case you really want 4K with HDR the S6 can’t deliver but maybe Z4 will…

  • skyxz

oh, thanks. But there must be some technical difference between the toshiba made and the sony made sensor.

  • Mathias Cronqvist

    Nice try, Timel.

  • Raj Singh

I saw that last night from one of the developers at Sony Mobile, which is pretty brutal. Walkman is now pretty useless unless you store all of your music locally. Yet Sony is promoting PlayStation Music, which is basically Spotify with no use for Walkman.
TrackID works with Spotify now though…

  • Rikimaru Azuma

The main point of Xperia Z was HDR then I do not understand why this Z4 would be out HDR…
The good point is to see that they keep a screen in 1080P.
About the othe rpoint it’s following the tablet.
Then no chance to see a new design…
See like this no need to change a Z3 for this Z4, but a Z1 or Z2 why not.
    This one should be mine.

  • skyxz

ohh, thanks. Just found out that toshiba’s sensor is 1/2.4 compared to sony’s 1/2.3.

  • May Czos

Real world difference is smaller than you think. Main battery eaters are screen’s size and brightness.

  • Jim Peterson

I hope Sony gets moving on this phone soon. I love my Z1 but my contract is finishing and I’m ready to resign and upgrade my phone. I was tempted by the Samsung S6 which looks like a nice phone but lacks the two things I love most about the Z1, waterproofing and long battery life. So I’ll wait, but not too long.,

  • Jaissal S

I’m also on Z1 and have considered upgrading this year to Z4. I do like the look and design of the Z3 though. I’m glad that i’ve been holding out. I’ll miss my Z1 though! My first quad core Xperia experience! Love it! This was a jump from Xperia S to Z1 for me :)

If this spec is true, i see no reason to upgrade my Z3, Sony always make a mistake of upgrading so little in each release (i upgrade from z1 to z2 and to z3), with the delay of z4 release i though they will suprise me but guess not. even their camera software still suck, and also i think they should have include their newest camera sensor in z4 but sadly it still the same old sensor. (their camera software is bad in night, especially their flash compared to iphone 6) even the 4k video recording bug which featured on z2 still exist, in which you cant record more than few minutes which i doubt it will get fixed in z4 (hey z3 even still have the bug)

Sony really need to step up their game and bring innovation in each release, if they dont want to keep losing money in mobile division. there are too many die hard fan boy here. i dont like samsung too but the truth is their devices has more feature than sony.

what i can think on top my head is,

    finger print scanner,
    Larger display resolution
    heart rate
    gorilla glass 4
    IR port (for remote)

you can say that many are a gimmick, but gimmick is what sells today.
