Privilege Plus update adds VR Theater; Could we see Sony launch an Xperia VR headset too?

Xperia VR TheaterVirtual Reality is really expected to kick off this year and Sony has invested huge sums into the concept, with PlayStation VR due to launch in 2016. Sony also has patents to create what can only be described as a Gear VR competitor and there is a possibility it could launch the ‘Xperia VR’ at MWC next week.

It may just be a coincidence, but Sony Mobile has also today updated its Privilege Plus application to include a VR Theater. The Privilege Plus app is not compatible with Google Cardboard as far as we are aware, at least not yet, which could give further credence that Sony is planning to launch its own VR headset.

The new Privilege Plus has the movie “The Walk” in VR and allows you to view it through a headset or have a 360 degree experience. We’ll obviously bring you all of the news from MWC next week.

Sony says that the VR experience is not compatible with Xperia E3, Xperia M2, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, Xperia E1, Xperia C3, Xperia L, Xperia M, Xperia ZR, Xperia Z, Xperia E4G, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, and Xperia M5.
