Global Xperia Z5 series now receiving Android Marshmallow (32.1.A.1.163)

by XB on 7th March 2016

in Android, Featured Content, Firmware, Videos, Xperia Z5 series

Xperia Z5 MarshmallowThe Sony Xperia Android 6.0 Marshmallow rollout officially begins today for most. Last week we saw the update land on Japanese NTT docomo Xperia Z5 devices, but today the update has started for the global variants. At the time of writing, firmware build 32.1.A.1.163 is currently live across all variants of the Xperia Z5, but we are also starting to see the firmware seed for the Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact.

The new update is Android 6.0 only (no version 6.0.1 just yet), although it does include the latest February 2016 security patches from Google. The update includes native Marshmallow features such as enhanced privacy settings for app data permissions and greater battery life with Doze. The other main new addition is the home launcher.

Sony has not included STAMINA mode within this update, although it is expected to bring it back in a later firmware update. Also, Sony looks like it is following other manufacturers and has not included adoptable storage within the update. This is a shame as it means you cannot use a microSD memory card to expand the phone’s internal storage. Please let us know your initial impressions as soon as you’ve updated.

    From:

  • Soooooo….. Where is Marshmallow for my Z3?

  • Ron Lufias

Malaysia region here. I already received the update on Z5 Dual.

  • I want that funny Sony videos with the software update introduction :p

  • Eduardo Otero

    Any link??

  • KubsiJack

It’s the same UI as Lollipop. Nothing new.

  • Misha Shevkun

    Need on Z2!

  • LancerEX

No update for my E6683 as of now.

  • xAntifreeZe

if only there is also stamina mode built in (considering to update now or wait till end of April)

  • I got 6.0.1 concept build on my Xperia Z3 Compact and it works like a charm… is there a reason I should upgrade (actually this looks like a rollback) to 6.0 official release?

  • Drakomord

    Z series is done.
    Now it’s X series. :)

  • Z3 COMPACT

how i can get that ?

  • Cpt.Pancake

nothing on my Z5 in Germany

  • Matt

well guys out with the impression of the new firmware.

the thing is, it would be really funny if the 801 based devices like the z3 and z2 all get he 6.0.1 official frimware.

  • Murasaki Knot

    My Z5( Hongkong E6653 ) haven receive !!! CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE !!!

  • Marinko Agic

    Soon

  • KubsiJack

    Here :D

  • mountain

I see in the video that the camera launches instantly. I hope that its not just cache!

  • Tim Mayle

No microSD support ?! Seems a showstopper for me. I’ll sadly stick on A5.01 if it’s not added :(

  • Me

The MicroSD can still be used as in Lollipop, but it can’t be converted into internal storage as in Google’s original version of Marshmallow.

  • Ailan Hidaz

I just hope this update solved some of the lag present when using two sims and the obvious battery drain from SD 810

  • Ailan Hidaz

Maybe they will enable it when they release the new firmware with Stamina mode?

  • MixoMaxoViper

    No Stamina… Sony! Why! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy……………………….

Ok, end of fury. But WHY? Doze is giving me 4H SOT on marshmallow concept, while on KK i have around 8H!

  • Tim Mayle

Oh, then let’s just wait on Z3C updated fw :)

  • “Sony looks like it is following other manufacturers and has not included adoptable storage within the update. This is a shame as it means you cannot use a microSD memory card to expand the phone’s internal storage. ”

    Ah…. :-/

  • I hope that they do.

  • Just…

  • Why do you say that @mat@Matt_Na:disqus?

  • Ailan Hidaz

I didnt know you had KitKat on a Z5…?

Still no update in the Netherlands

  • MixoMaxoViper

    Z3C, but who cares?

  • Z5 owners care. We get 4H SOT with stamina mode ON

  • Ailan Hidaz

Well you are commenting on a Z5 news post and claiming your phone had KK (something that Z5 didn’t ever launch with) so confusion is expected.
Also, Z3C has not even received this MM firmware, so what are you even “Screaming” about?

  • Pingback: Marshmallow reportedly rolls out to Sony Xperia Z5 family, Xperia Z3+, and Z4 Tablet globally | Pocketnow()

  • Finally

  • MixoMaxoViper

I was on MM Concept, and there was no Stamina. Rolled back to KK and now with Stamina battery life is perfect. Also You should know, for wich phones Concpet software is avaliable…

  • Ailan Hidaz

Exactly my point. News post is for Z5, not Z3C. Secondly, Concept firmware has nothing to do with this post.
Lastly, Stamina mode will be included sometime in April (and since this is Sony, expect that to mean April 2055) so hopefully that will resolve whatever issues your Z3C with Doze mode will have (and hopefully those of us with the Z5)

  • Ryan

What a load of crap !! Its not live . They would have made an announcement on the software updates blog page which they have not. Also the latest software for all the Z5 series is 5.1 as per the support/ Xperia Care page.

I am so excited. Hopefully it fixes all the issues I have had with Lollipop!!! downloading it now :)

  • Dominic81

    Installed. What a boring update…

    -No 6.0.1
    -No Stamina Mode
    -No new UI/icons
-Still the same crappy camera app with no Manual controls
-Camera still takes longer to open that it should compared to other flagship phones
    -No new Volume Control menu

    Uninspired and bland!

Bye bye Sony, I purchased a Nexus 6P 10 minutes ago.

  • Raymond De Guzman

Doesn’t matter what you think or what everybody else thinks buddy. In the end of the day, you’re still stuck with an already outdated and underwhelming update on your Z5 so… what’s your point exactly?

I expected better from an update that tool that long to be released. That’s it.

…and I have an S6 Edge+, a Nexus 6 and The Z5, and I don’t see the point of being on the latest buggy software on all the new phones.
And whining on Xperiablog solved your problems I presume?

looks like this update is pushed for the loosers who wanted marshmallow sooner

  • Cinghiale

    FTF firmware links ASAP, please!

  • Ailan Hidaz

    agreed…

  • Ailan Hidaz

    lol perfectly put

  • Dominic81

Didn’t whine my friend, I purchased a different device instead, I said things like they are: That’s a bland and uninspired update. Deal with it.

  • Abdul Ghani

ummmm this update is exactly like the one my s6+ got no stamina no memory card option also they added extreme battery drain with app hanging well thats samsung

  • Tim Mayle

I’d was you I’d stick on concept. It’s a very different software version. Quicker and lighter. You’d probably be disappointed going on official version. Just my opinion.

  • Ailan Hidaz

We are all suffering from the wonders of Sony’s latest OS release. And the new update for Samsung is as bland as they come, adding NOTHING new to the Edge+ so whether you like it or not, we ALL have to deal with it. All meaning Samsung fanboys too lol

  • Abdul Ghani

i think he dose not know that he is whining

  • Adam Graver

So they took ages and ages to release.. that..

  • Dominic81

You know Sony CAN be criticized, and that Sony updates CAN be discussed right?

  • Abdul Ghani

go discuss with sony in official form

  • Dominic81
  • Ailan Hidaz

be grateful we got something lol…

The hounds on Xperiablog would have raged at Sony’s head offices if we didn’t get a new firmware version released soon. Now sony will add features in 2055

  • Abdul Ghani

    i dont mind that

  • Ailan Hidaz

I’m assuming that’s the firmware for the single sim variant?

  • Dominic81

Why this blog even exists then if we can’t discuss Sony updates here?

Be a user, not an apologist ;)

  • Abdul Ghani

so they released all phones with 810 now

  • Abdul Ghani

i forgot ur a whiny faggot

  • RoberMC

I get 5 hours SOT on my Z5, but anyway they removed Stamina because this release have App standby and all the other 6.0 battery saving features, which basically replace Stamina mode.

  • Brick

Samsung never adds anything to their updated firmwares. I have the s4, on its latest firmware it still has the same awful apps, home screen and everything else like when it came out pretty much. At least Sony has frequent updates for their system apps.

  • LeoS

Does it have the new emojis which came with 6.0.1? That’s really the only major difference between 6.0 and 6.0.1 since the security updates are on this version too.

  • unknown13x

So you bought a Nexus 6P with:
    – No stamina mode (doze)
    – No new icons (Stock meh icons)
    – A really bad camera app (Yes Sony’s better than the 6P)

First impressions, after a few hours:

-WAY more snappy and fast, thanks God

-UI lag is 99.9% gone (yay!)

-The fingerprint scanner works way better now (thanks to Google’s official API)

-I miss the good old Lollipop sound panel and I wish we had the new 6.0.1 panel with advances “Do not disturb” settings

-Camera seems to open a little bit faster now. More advanced manual settings still missing. Camera2 API should have been included

-Auto-brightness is fixed, finally! Can’t believe it took that long

-Bluetooth issues are finally fixed too in my car (disconnections after disconnections for no reason)

-I hope Doze will help. Charging seems a little bit slower than with Lollipop so far (on AC, same official QC charger)

Maybe Xperia Z5 have better camera, maybe it has better camera app so what if pictures from Nexus 6P are much better. No stamina mode in 6P who cares if it stands longer than z5 with Stamina… I had Nexus 5 for more then a year and when I decided to buy Z5 I expected better performance, better camera, updates on time and after 2 months I can say that Z5 is really nice looking phone but it isn’t significant step forward over Nexus 5. I also switch to Nexus 6P or IP6s.

So I won’t be able to use my MicroSD card anymore? That’s just stupid! I have all my music on my memory stick, about 20+ gb used!!! I only use phone for apps and anything else, pictures music and videos are saved on my microSd. If I won’t be able to use it, I won’t update, it’s stupid. :/

  • YuuriAyano

    Try PC Companion

  • azzido

    No one cares X series…

  • azzido

After sooo long time such disappointment :(

There is no Stamina, no 6.0.1, no new UI / widgets / icons.
And even stock MM features like adoptable SD card removed, what a shame, so now their even remove stock features, not only not adding new ones?

And worse is no any update to camera that was literally not touched.
No picture quality improvement, no low light improvement, no Manual mode improvement.

It is not only last Sony’s Z.
It is also my last Sony too.

Sorry but for that treatment I cannot say nothing else.
They had much more time than other brands to deliver it so it should get to use with some binuses, instead a shame has come…

Then, is there anyone able to help me where to switch?
Should it be new Galaxy or iPhone? (as HTC is dead too and Sony is crossing their way with X series for me). What are the Pros and Cons of each choice, can anyone summarize please?

  • YuuriAyano

Of course you can still use it o.o

  • azzido

Definitely worst update in Z series ever!

+ it is so ugly stock with already depressing UI and removed features like Stamina and adoptable SD card that I can’t believe it took them so long to deliver half-baked beta of 6.0 (no 6.0.1)

Unbelievable = new slogan instead of make.believe

  • azzido

    Dead man walking

  • Román Rodríguez

I ask this because the article clearly says:

“Sony looks like it is following other manufacturers and has not included adoptable storage within the update. This is a shame as it means you cannot use a microSD memory card to expand the phone’s internal storage.”

    :(

  • YuuriAyano

Works fine for me too. I do have to lock it with the power button otherwise I’ll have to enter pin + fingerprint the next time I unlock it.

  • YuuriAyano

That feature allows the SD card to act as an “extension” for the internal storage, so when enabled it will be an “internal” storage, no longer an external storage. You can still use your SD card like before.

  • jeremy_inc

I had that, it goes away after a little while. I think play services just updates in the background

  • Jacky

It’s becuz if you eject your micro sd, you can’t use it on another device unless you reformat it.

  • Román Rodríguez

Oh! Well, thanks for clarify that. Now it doesn’t seem so stupid, after all. :)

  • YuuriAyano

Yeah so go and update it :)

Just ordered the Z5 Compact… noted above that OS update NEGATES use of SD card memory expansion? REALLY? That expansion is one reason I bought the phone.

  • azzido

    Introducing 1st MM bug:

  • hcm.

No. you still have the SD card memory expansion. Just that Sony did not implement the MM feature to allow you to format SD card as internal storage.

  • illstplaya .

You don’t need stamina mode because of Doze.. It’s already built in. Most phoned aren’t even on 6.0.1 so that’s not a big deal either.

  • illstplaya .

Sony isn’t the only one who did that. Basically every other OEM did the same thing. And the disadvantages outweigh the advantages of having that feature. It’s better to leave it the way it is now

  • illstplaya .

I think it’s because if you remove the SD card you will not be able to use it with any other phone unless you reformat it. So I actually prefer if they leave it the way it is now. Basically every other OEM has done the same thing

  • illstplaya .

That may be because you are holding the phone unevenly? And so the phone will play sound out of one speaker louder than the other on purpose. If you leave the phone on a flat leveled surface does the same thing happen?

  • SirDigby ChickenCaesar

Why don’t you just download the generic Singapore firmware and flash it? I did it on my UK Unlocked Z5 compact and it works superbly. Very happy with the update. Performance and battery life is absolutely excellent.

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium and Xperia Z5 Compact get Marshmallow update | Android Wafer()

  • Billyrave

So… not having the phone yet and not having read the PDF User’s Guide: The phone is 32GB so what you’re saying I cannot do is use a 32GB SD card to make the phone think its ‘internal’? base? storage is 64GB … but I’ll still be able to direct photos, videos, et al to the SD card. Do I have it right? And thanks very much for the quick reply!

  • hcm.

Phone comes with 32GB internal storage. And you can insert a SD card up to 200GB on top of that 32GB.

What this update does not allow you to do is: format the SD card to have it read as part of phone’s internal storage, which is part of native MM function.

  • mike

solve email late push issue? still get notification sound during call?

  • There should be the option, at least. It would be up to the user to enable it or not,

  • Billyrave

    Again, thanks.

  • Jesús López Sotelo

No luck and I had my SD card encrypted. I had to format it too when I reset the phone.

  • Sugih C

    Oh well, nothing is perfect.

    Thanks!

  • GreekBoy

Any of you have the ftf? flashtool fails building them constantly.

  • hansip

well if you feel faster and more durable regardless of feature bullet point removal, it is an upgrade.

  • Simone Yue

After 24 hours, DOZE seems to work better than Stamina. Z5 is smoother and faster. I haven’t seen bugs till now. S810 isn’t overheating. I think this could eb a good basic firmare that can improve with future update. It’s a shame that Sony hasn’t changed the UI but i think they will do it when X series will hit the store.

  • hansip

imo, the UI shouldn’t be changed because it is a trademark of Z series, like White Text on Black background etc to complement the black/white front bezel. with X and its colorful body, the UI should be updated. there are plus and minus to each UI version, one has beautiful lock screen but lame icons unfortunately, the old one has ‘generic’ lock screen but comes with Sony icons we knew.

But maybe with another Material Design update the Z5 will follow too.

  • insyt

Firstly thanks for the feedback. Did you do a clean update? If yes then battery life will definitely be better regard less of how well doze performs.

  • Simone Yue

Great update, battery and OS strong and stable (thanks to the testers).
There is one very picky thing I really don’t like:
All “Sony” Core Apps… i.e. Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Calendar, Email, and the Settings Menu have removed the Material Design of Google… The top bar area with you battery usage and wifi symbols etc is just plain black!?! Why??
You can see this in the Sony PC Companion example pictures when updating the phone through a PC (see picture also below in this thread).
Looks very old fashioned again like this, something akin with 4.4 or earlier. Surely you don’t mess with the Android Material Design anymore.
What is more ironic is the Sony downloadable apps, such as TV Sideview, are still material design like 3rd party apps. So all the consistency of the experience has gone now.
PLEASE FIX WITH 6.0.1, as I’m still waiting new Emoji Dictionary too!

As far as I can see, there is no particular advantage of switching to the 6P from the Z5 – loose waterproofing, loose the superior camera, loose the better earphone audio, loose SD storage for media,…. why does a “bland” update (which dramatically improves the speed of the device and restores Bluetooth,.. and seems to be entirely bug-free, so far as I can make out) mean you down grade your whole frikkin device?

    You, sir, get an upvote.

  • Tim Austin

As we have discussed the camera many times here and on XDA, you know I’m with you on that! lol

  • Tim Austin

The Bluetooth issue fix is a real, real biggie for me: my Moto 360 became virtually useless after buying my Z5 because it wasn’t connected reliably to my phone. Now it’s perfect. So happy.

And agree: so, so much smoother, now. Performance has received a major boost.

  • Tim Austin

Landed on O2 in the UK 2 days ago. Don’t blame Sony for your network not pushing the update: blame your network.

  • SeVeMaS

    Same here in France

  • Tim Austin

Not really: major performance improvement and the major Bluetooth bug is fixed. Can’t think of how either of those is pointless.

  • SeVeMaS

The SD as internal storage is only useful for those with small internal storage like lower that 16Gb. And all the time ppl complain about removal storage and now they ask for the opposite? I’m confused

  • Tim Austin

Press and hold the home button. It no longer works with a swipe.

  • Jason McQueen

My phone was sim/network free so not a network issue.

  • GreekBoy

WTF? My Voda DE is already up to date!

  • GreekBoy

    Totally agree bro!

  • Gabriel Voica

    Same here in Romania…

  • Minesh Ratnadurai

There is absolutly no shortcut on my home button, swiping, tap or otherwise. When i go into google settings, the now on tap feature is greyed out and I cannot turn it on.

  • Tim Austin

For some reason, in the UK at least, unlocked devices always come in late. Happens with many manufacturers – I suspect that it’s a regulatory thing. It’ll happen.

  • Tim Austin

That is very odd. Works fine for mine. Perhaps you need to re-flash the update?

  • GreekBoy

WTF? In my case it works the same or better than Stamina enabled

  • GreekBoy

Use PC Companion to upgrade, not OTA!

  • GreekBoy

    Same for my Z5C

  • GreekBoy

I was also a little dissapointed with the same boring design

  • GreekBoy

Mine is OK! Reset to defaults to fix

  • Pawel Orzechowski

I’ll try to do hard reset with wiping system thru pc companion and hope for the best.it might be issue with apps I’m using so will install one by one and then give a shout how’s things going.

  • Nuno

    Hello,

How do you get the VoLTE calls on your Xperia Z5 Premium, is it carrier locked or is it unlocked. If your device is unlocked can you advise on how you managed to set up VoLTE and HD Voice.

    Thanks
    NB

  • GreekBoy

Yes, that should fix it, Good luck bro

  • Leumas Asoineb

    Hi,
Could anyone help me? I downloaded the new software in my z5 compact directly on my phone as it pops up on my notification it had 100 percent complete download through wifi but then it did not update my phone. In a matter of seconds a notification appears again that there is a new software update available.
Your response will be much appreciated.

  • meera kulkarni

    want storage and stamina mode.

  • Alan

Vodafone UK have it before my unlocked Z5, i take it vodafone have a contract with sony to release in uk before anyone else!

  • Da Fuq

  • islam

  • GreekBoy

It is enabled by default bro

  • GreekBoy

Hope you enjoy the new update bro

  • GreekBoy

Indeed that could be required bro

  • Macka

Everything is okey, i am very happy with this update, better optimalization, antutu have 15k more than before with lollipop 87.500, i think that battery is better, app permissions is perfect feature, now on tap is good, but i have one problem, no more options to unlock screen with fingerprint, anyone to help me? Thank u so much

  • Macka

    Thanks :)

  • Saifuddin Adnan

Your sd card might have got corrupted.. Try to remove and reinsert sd card and see if the phone detects it or not. If not then check your sd card with other phone

  • Abdou Zaouia

I hope so, just updated my Z5 compact yesterday, and i’m already missing the Ultra Stamina & Stamina mode, there’s no 2 battery life as they say ….

  • Abdou Zaouia

I’m missing the Stamina and Ultra Stamina mode, hope they will bring it in an eventual version of android M.

  • Sadman Khan

Doze is working better for me than STAMINA though.

  • Abdou Zaouia

Did you bring doze from google play ? or is it already included in the system, for my z5 compact, i don’t see the Doze mode as Stamina in lollipop like before.

  • Sadman Khan

It’s enabled by default in Marshmallow

  • Saifuddin Adnan

anyone got the update in uk? am using E6653 sony xperia z5 but still have’nt received any notification neither OTA nor by Pc companion..

  • Zac

I’m in the UK with unlocked Z5 and still nothing!

  • Khush

I’ve just checked. I’ve got az5 unlocked in the UK too and its available via Pc Companion, not currently available OTA or on xperifirm.

  • Khush

Got it via PC Companion, it’s only available through there. I’ve got a Z5 E6653 unlocked in the UK

  • Casey Sturgeon

When did it become available? I checked last night and it still said I had the latest software. I’ll check again when I get home today.

  • Reece Young

Ive just checked and its not available

  • Reece Young

I haven’t got the update either UK Xperia Z5 Compact

  • Zac

    Thanks, will take a look.

  • Casey Sturgeon

I have the Unlocked Z5 in the UK. Is yours the compact or premium?

  • Reece Young

I have xperia Z5 Compact UK

  • Reece Young

The marshmallow update is only on O2, Virgin and Vodafone at the minute.

  • Casey Sturgeon

Ahhh okay, and it sucks that carriers already have the MM update

  • Khush

    here is some proof

  • Reece Young

Just checked, still showing latest update as lollipop.

  • Khush

I also went on the support section under settings. Where it said I have a new update available https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/947db0b0c0805b6030adc300f795f4e3c476cec83a71ab509aa8576bbe7278c4.jpg

  • Reece Young

I’m running the Customized UK version and I haven’t received the update yet.

  • Khush

So am I my phone isn’t locked to any network. Bought it outright from Amazon. Weird don’t know why I have it and you don’t

  • Reece Young

Maybe it’s phased and I will get it later.

  • Zac

    Still nothing on pc companion!

  • Casey Sturgeon

Just checked again and still no update, even from PCC

  • Khush

I’ve just installed it on my xperia Z5. It’s a lot smoother and the fingerprint scanner is more responsive but I don’t really see anything substantial about the upgrade

  • Casey Sturgeon

I’ve also heard that Battery is better with Doze and that it’s benchmark has improved by over 15000

  • Khush

I haven’t checked benchmark but the battery is better still don’t know about Sony’s 2 day battery life though

  • Casey Sturgeon

Oh, I also heard that the 810 doesn’t get quite as warm anymore

  • Khush

I haven’t really put it through its paces but I haven’t had any problems so far.

  • christopherjacques

Is it worth upgrading right now, or should I wait a bit?

  • tjtkdtjr

UK Generic for Z5 and Germany for Z5P is available now.

  • Maria-Sai

When Z5 6653 EE UK version has the update, arhhh

  • Ts-Club-2010

The update is now available in the Netherlands via the Sony pc companion app

  • Saifuddin Adnan

finally got the update today for my xperia z5 E6653 UK.

  • caz

Honestly, I have no idea… Google is your friend?

  • caz

Anyone had the generic UK (1298-5496) via OTA yet? At work and can’t install PC Companion – booo!

  • Zac

I’m at work so can’t update until this evening. How is your phone performing after the update?

  • Saifuddin Adnan

    1) phone’s performance is considerably improved…the UI seems fluid than before.
    2) UI is 99% exactly same as before…nothing is changed except DIALER which looks pleasing now.
    3) the phone now uses fingerprint to unlock only when you lock the device using power key (when i lock using lockscreen widget-shortcut it asks pin to unlock).
4)fingerprint sensor is now more accurate(never failed to recognise since the update)
    5) dark green wallpaper included for my Green coloured Z5
6)minor improvements like better wifi reception,Do not disturb mode, improved app permissions and other marshmallow features!
    7) battery performance is same as before…no noticeable improvement.
*****UPDATE NEITHER BRINGS ANY MAJOR CHANGES NOR ANY BUGS*****

  • Saifuddin Adnan

just got the update couple of hours ago via pcc for e6653 xperia z5 UK

  • Zac

    Thanks for the info.

  • How did you find the battery? I’m asking because I am interested of buying the Z5P, currently on Z3+ and the new update stopped the overheating, also gave me 5 hours SOT instead of 2-3 hours SOT that I had before. Very impressed with the update!

  • Casey Sturgeon

I received it earlier today by PC Companion but didn’t have time to update before work

  • Abdul Ghani

for now i dont use dual sims on my dual sim phone i just use single sim now so i get only 4 to 5 hrs screen on time now phone is ultra fast it i think there is some kind of glitch that at 31% of batter it gets heat for 2 minutes idk why ………….in total i get 36 hrs per charge

  • Rameyuk

I bought my Xperia Z5 Premium E6853 Single Sim.. (Unlocked) imported from Singapore. Because the models in my country are the E6883 Dual Sim variant.. (also unlocked) There’s no carrier lock in my country. Everybody buys the handset full price here (or on a lease).

Anyways, when I got it firsthand, I flashed it to the most recent singapore firmware 32.0.A.6.170. The settings appeared under Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks -> Enable VoLTE (with a slider to turn it on or off). My carrier is supposed to support VoLTE even though it was just on trial back in July last year and currently not commercialising the technology. I know because everytime I make a phone call, my signal still drops from LTE to H+ and when my calls ended it switches back to LTE. So I know VoLTE is not used yet. But those calls always have an HD Voice icon on it when I call other people with HD Voice technology on their phones.

But after flashing it to Marshmallow using various regions (Australia, Italy, Thailand, etc) none of them have the VoLTE setting in the place that I had it last time. And none of my calls are in HD Voice anymore. It may be only available on the Singapore firmware, but they haven’t released marshmallow yet for that particular region. So maybe after it’s appeared on XperiFirm I’ll reflash my phone again and see if the settings return.. If it’s not.. then Sony hasn’t been paying enough attention to detail on this particular feature. It’s a shame, really..

  • Nuno

    Hello,

I have all the Sony phones since the original Z Series and i also flashed my Z3+ with the Hong Kong ROM and it had the VoLTE icon. When i updated the phone to Marshmallow it lost its VoLTE icon. My Z4 Tablet also has the Hong Kong ROM and it remained with the VoLTE icon. Not sure why the tablet kept it and the Z3+ dropped it. My Z5 Premium has the German ROM still waiting on the MarshMallow Update.

    Regards,
    NB

  • Abdul Ghani

I would suggest u to wait for XP because 810 is garbage chip

  • But that’s ok SOT? Galaxy S7 Edge gets around 6 and a half hours of SOT. A bit surprised that my z3+ gets more SOT than your Z5P :S

  • Abdul Ghani

S7 IS REVIEWED no user has conformed it also my z5 get 5 hrs because i watch lots of youtube and thats good because my s6 edge plus dies in 3 hrs SOT so z5 is still better

I have developed the Android App Cng/Lpg Finder, which is available at Google Play Store. It is installed on about 4000 devices, including 80 devices with Android 6.0 (MarshMallow).Today I got an error report from a user with a Xperia Z5 Compact. The app was forced closed.
This was the only error report I received. The app was tested on a device with Android 6.0. So I assume, that this error is specific for Xperia with Android 6.0
    The stack trace:

That does not mean your SD card corrupted. What you need is copy your data to HDD, format your SD card then insert again into your phone. If not, try to low level format. I’ve low level formated my SD card so that I don’t know if normal format can solve the problem or not. About low level format, ask Google “hddllf”.

  • khatuan.tran

Try to “click” and “hold” on that grey now on tap then you will see.

Bring back stamina mode!!! I have to charge my Z5 compact every day now when I used to charge every other day

Thinking of now using Flashtool, but would that invalidate my warranty?

  • South Africa is a go, eager to see if Doze is legit

  • Paul

Powered on my Z5 Premium today and was greeted by the update to MM. From starting the download over WiFi to final boot up was 80 minutes. Then the surprise happened. I received a notice that my carrier settings had to be applied and my phone would be factory reset and I would lose all my apps, settings, music and photos in main memory.

I was going wth? and reluctantly continued. Sure enough I was back to having a new phone out of the box. I then spent all afternoon restoring my phone and doing updates. I have it near how it was except for one thing… The phone doesn’t see my external micro SD card that had my Sony backup of all my photos, contacts etc. I powered down, removed the card, cleaned it, reinserted and booted. No go, I seem to recall someone else posted this issue. Is there an easy solution?

I’m on Bell Mobility in Canada btw. Tech support there is going to be getting an earful from me tomorrow.

  • Harrison Mak

I received the update today in Canada for a BELL device
    I have encountered MAJOR PROBLEMS!!!
    1) Apps on my SD card no longer works
    2) Google Play cannot launch
    3) Mobile Data function no longer works

Please DO NOT update until further firmware is available or SONY/BELL gives clarification

  • Jeremy

I had the same problem today (on Bell). Had to fully restore my phone. Not sure why this is such a big problem with Bell customers.
I was really hoping android M would fix the issue with blur on the left hand side of camera photos … unfortunately, it did not. I guess it’s time to send it in for a repair.

  • Kevin Chou

Same thing happened to me… Now I am screwed! Help, anyone?

  • Mathew Stephen Gaudet

Google play is nit working ever since update for both my and my gfs phones, anyone know how ro fix this?

  • D J Hilton

After waiting over 2 weeks for my Xperia Z5 on Three UK to get 6.0, finally got a message saying the update is now available. On my Z5 at last!

  • Jean

I’m really upset with the removal of the micro sd card, because now my otg doesn’t work anymore. The main reason why i took the Z5 over Samsung’s flagships is because it has an expandeble momory. Please fix this in the next update. With that gone I can just as well take a other device like the iPhone 6s or 6s plus or even wait for the iPhone 7 for instance. This is truly one of the best devices I’ve used so far so please fix this.

  • Paul

I’ve read on the Sony support forum that performing a repair with PC Companion may fix the issue. I’m going to try it today and see how it goes.

  • Paul

You’re right, PC Companion didn’t have any repair for this issue. I was able to remove my card, copy the contents of it to my laptop and then format it. After reinsertion and booting the phone, it still doesn’t see the card. I basically have a Galaxy S6 now. Please fix this Sony!
