Android NougatIt is not the name we would have chosen, but Google has gone with Android Nougat as the name of its next major Android version. There was plenty of speculation about what ‘N’ would end up being, with ‘Nutella’ getting a lot of love, but in the end Nougat won out.

Perhaps, there was licensing issues that couldn’t be worked out between Google and Ferrero (the owner of Nutella). Who knows? All we know is that we’re now curious to try some Nougat for real. Also, if someone can tell us the correct way to pronounce ‘nougat’ in the comments below it would be much appreciated.

Update: Google has confirmed that Nougat will be Android 7.0 in the following video description.

Thanks Diogo and mrninko!

Z5 and Z3+ will have it that’s for sure

  • Meanwhile, I’m still sitting here waiting for Marshmallow for M4..

  • Kliment Stamenkov

Maybe it will come out when Google announces Android O. I left my Z1C for the M4 because of Marshmallow months ago and I’m still waiting.

  • mr tripe

It is a french word, so you’ll have to speak with french accent… It is said like “noogá”… it is a candybar made with sugar, nuts (or almonds, walnuts, pistachios, hazelnuts, macadamia) whipped egg whites and chopped candied fruit…

    And Z3

  • Arian Hajiakbar

Well in Iran this sweet is called Gaz ( Gas)

  • jokensy

Can we sign a petition to change the name?

  • Alvin

Nüga’ or Nooga (LOL I knew how to pronounce it but don’t know how to write the pronunciation)

  • Alvin

I thought marsmallow will not be in the Z1C??

  • Alvin

    No, unfortunately.

  • Martin Nilsson

American English also pronounce the T.

  • Mrr Vann

i still waiting for marshmallow on my C5 too…

  • Khillo81

Depends who you ask, some Americans would pronounce it: Noogat. And by the way, called it!

  • I’m from South Africa where we mainly take after England in our English as I pronounce the “T” – a mixture between “noo-gat” and “noo-git.”

  • Rob Gillingwater

    Yep Nooo gah

  • Kwstakhs

    You left z1c for m4? That’s not good man…

  • Kwstakhs

Yes, unfortunately for you…Z3 is Sony’s test device for Android N.

  • Alvin

I hope so, but I don’t think too much about it as if Sony don’t bring it to my z3, i wouldn’t be disappointed.

  • Kliment Stamenkov

I replaced the battery on my Z1C because the original died so I got the M4 because it’s waterproof and my Z1C wasn’t anymore, and also because of Marshmallow.

  • Kliment Stamenkov

Yes it’s not going to be on the Z1C and that’s why I got the M4.

  • Svnjay

M4 is the laggiest POS ever.

  • Alvin

    Oh Okay

  • Luis alexander rosas velasquez

So you are conformist? Good one man, you´re the type of guy who the companies wants ;)

  • Kwstakhs

Z3 and z3 compact WILL get android N…you can (officialy) install it even know but it’s not safe as it is on Beta release yet…

  • Shady

if Z3 gonna get it then I believe Z2 will too same hardware expect for CPU AC instead of AB

  • John Jay

    Nougat’s, No glory!

  • Alvin

But it is not confirmed yet… but yes, I hope Z3 will get it

  • Alvin

  • Adiawan Erwin

I got a software update’s update on my M4 recently. I think that was the marshmallow -,-

  • Joao Claro

Im really doubting if im gonna buy a Nexus or a Sony, I love Sony and their phoens are good and pretty but damn the OEM update policies are terrible, i want a phone that gets all major updates for at least 2 years, not 1 like i got, and way after it was released….

  • GregLu

In Belgium/French, the T is silent.

  • David Commins

    LOL Arian

  • hamidreza bayat

Nope its called noqa(q like in quran) or rees

  • hamidreza bayat

  • androexpert00

The Nougat called in Italian “Torrone” is a candybar wich has Italian origins not French :P

  • androexpert00

My Xperia Z got updates from Android 4.1 to 5.1.1 in about 3 years. Not bad at all right? And my Xperia Z5 will get more too now. If you buy a mid-range smartphone or low end one, what did you expect? Neither LG or Samsung or asy other company updates Mid o low end smartphones to major android releases, so next time buy an X or Z series ;)

  • androexpert00

Seems a good idea but Google has already added the statue so it will be useless maybe.

  • androexpert00

For sure Sony will give this update starting from march To Z5 and May-june to z3-Z2. I hope it will be a step ahead in terms of performance with the improved ART and battery with the new improved Doze mode.

  • MikeBassMX

    From my Z3… Cheers!

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

    Nutella was better!

  • Carl mit Zeh

Hm, and I thought, the way we pronounce it (in Germany), is the original french pronounciation. The T is not silent here. Written in English we’d say “noo-gut” (u in gut like the u in cut, not put).

  • Aadit Jeyasankar

Will there be an update for Xperia M5
