Sony’s “Live on YouTube” app to be discontinued tomorrow

sony-live-on-youtube-xperiaIf you have used the Sony Xperia “Live on YouTube” app previously, then you may not be too happy to hear that Sony will discontinue support for the app on 28 October 2016. The app will not support Android Nougat and we imagine the rationale for Sony’s move is that the YouTube now supports live streaming. Either way, it is a shame to see it go. Did you ever use it? We’d love to your experiences below.

Yet another relatively poor decision, a wee bit like not supporting the PlayMemories service in the album app. However, I can see their logic though.

Never used it. It’s a little redundant now that YT has this support also there are a lot of other live stream apps for the ones who need that kind of thing. Better to keep focus on what’s broadly needed and more important.

If it’s already available, why bother and waste resources developing the same thing? :/

  • CerberusSco

You’ve misunderstood my comment. You will note that I stated “I see their logic” behind it.

I remember when this was out on my Z3 and none of the other phones back then could stream live on social media. Them iPhone fanboys wouldn’t agree on its vision and convenience and now they’re all like “look I’m stealing live on Facebook and YouTube haha”. Fuck you all, ignorant fanboys.

  • Marco Rosati

ok, but the app can be only deactivated. i hope sony will give us an update to completely remove it

  • Emil Oskarsson

Never used it and nowadays you can stream live via the YouTube app as you said. Which makes this app totally unnecessary and just costs money to develop, I think I know why Sony chooses to shut it down xD

  • kurakuradisco

already delete it a year a go after rooted

  • MoYeung

How to use YouTube app to live stream? The instructions are unclear.

  • Mahesh

deactivated, still takes 15 MB memory.

  • iia3ezu

Good riddance to bad rubbish. No one wants crappy Sony proprietary mobile apps.

Want to stream live? Use Periscope. There are other apps.

Even the faltering HTC is cutting down on the number of its own proprietary apps. That’s a good thing. And it will be the trend in the foreseeable future.

Shame cause I think album is the best OEM photo gallery out there. It even manages to be competitive with some of the 3rd parties out there. Sony used to have so much things that other OEMs and Google are just now starting to add to the OS. Meanwhile, Sony is out there sleeping.

It was revolutionary when it started. Sony was ahead of the game with this one like with many things. Now of course it is not necessary anymore since the official YT app has the functionality.
