Xperia Nougat Beta starts rolling, see the first screens

in Android, Firmware, Xperia X series

xperia-nougat-beta-_39-2-a-0-248_3The Android 7.0 Nougat Beta is now rolling to the lucky few Xperia X Performance owners who managed to get into the trial. The beta is only open for the single SIM variant (F8131) of the Xperia X Performance across select regions. Users will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat with firmware build number 39.2.A.0.248, which includes the 1 October Google Security patches.

First impressions show that the new firmware does not highlight a radical change in user interface, as expected. You get a number of native Android 7.0 features such as split-screen and the changes to the notification panel. However, other Sony changes include new options to the camera app with manual shutter speed control and manual ISO control at 23MP. The update also includes the latest STAMINA mode.

There also seem to be some bug fixes with users reporting the long-standing auto-rotating bug has been resolved and touch sensitivity has been improved. We have included a few screenshots below and a couple of videos giving a quick tour across the new interface. We’ll update with further impressions as we have them.

Thanks Edwin, Fadi and Tarmo!

  • xz has different stamina mode?

  • Sander

So they fixed that annoying gyroscope bug? Send it to everybody else too!

  • Fadi Obaya

Somewhat different, they have battery care, but other than that, everything else is the same.

  • So0o

So now whit android 7 its activate The vulkan api?

  • KzX

Can someone show me available langugages of this beta?
    please please please…

  • fried_egg

my Z5 would like some new firmware ;) although what I really want from Sony is the ability to swipe to the left to open Google Now & the removal of the straight to “delete an app” screen if the screen is touched… too many apps get moved or deleted by handling the phone.

Google is paying 97$ per hour! Work for few hours and have longer with friends & family! !ha376f:
On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

Are you on the home launcher beta? Because there is swipe left to google now.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Wohoo finally some manual controls for shutter speed and iso for x performance! Hopefully it will be in the final build aswell :)

  • fried_egg

no… i did facebook beta for nearly 2 years… and it messed up my phone twice and ruined a holiday because it suffered a battery drain bug on the version i had that weekend. so i avoid beta access now! but not all things make it to all the versions of the phone even when running the same o/s series… so i saw the XZ had flick to the left, but it doest mean the Z5 will get it too :(

I wonder if small apps will be dropped from Z3+ ~ Z5 series after Nougat update…

  • Carls Alvin

    Android 7.0? why not 7.1?

  • P9

is Cambodian (Khmer) language available in Xperia UI on 7.0 system?
    Android added since 4.4 though
but can find so where on Xperia : /

  • Night Guy

Hopefully manual controls for z5 too.

  • Still waiting for them to get rid of the old divided-signal and divided-wifi icons. Everything else uses the new Lollipop+ icons.

I don’t want to root since that seems like a lot of work just for status bar icons that could be updated anyways.

  • Johannes

I hope not! Otherwise i won’t update for a lang time, but the Splitscreen could be an alternative…

  • Fadi Obaya

I think it’s the same. Haven’t checked tho..

  • azzido

How can I disable this google now panel on the left from my XZ? I hate it…

  • azzido

“the new firmware does not highlight a radical change in user interface, as expected”

For so long no ui changes…

    :(

  • skrug

Tap and hold on the home screen then go to settings, there’s a toggle to turn off google now

  • Makozak

I also wonder if manual controls will appear on Z3+ ~ Z5 series after the update, or is just a X ~ exclusive ?

  • Muhammad Isman Junian Rahman

Still with limited shutter speed. Longest is 1second while LG phones can do 30second exposure. And no 240 FPS recording?

  • Sadman Khan

Sony isn’t facebook lol. Their beta apps are very stable. I use walkman album and home betas and I’ve had zero issues so far. You can try them out. If you don’t like them, just revert back

  • Khillo81

I very much fear so; with more apps jumping on board the split screen mode, small apps become very niche. However, I’ve installed an app called Taskbar that promises a floating window option under Nougat. If that works as advertised, I won’t mind the eclipse of Small Apps

  • xAntifreeZe

I have the same feeling bout the icons too! Came across this app that can “change” the status bar. Hope it helps :)

you might want to get rid of an android based phone.. because google now is core to their future plans.

  • LocalPatriot

Still waiting to 32.2.A0.305 firmware to my xperia z3 plus….

I just want to know Myanmar(Burmses) is available as an option in langugage.

  • Ates

UK region waiting to…so long all month from october 7 for xperia z3+…nobody know where is a problem.

  • I’ve tried those overlay options, but it’s still not the same. I only really care about the cellular and wifi icons.

  • SamTroll

Wait a minute, I didn’t get this, back in September they announced the Nougat update roadmap
which showed that the XZ and Performance will get the ready version of Nougat in October
and now in November they only starting to roll out the beta version ???

  • Yuen Lui

    How is the RAM?

  • J.David

I think the battery care thing is already in Z series. In October I received an update that includes an option for optimize the battery charging in my Z5 Compact.
