  • Gohan

Wow seriously Sony is on fire with updates to flagships. Kudos Sony, well done.

Now market your product well so everyone knows there is Sony.

  • Gohan

Adding to that, do release your phones little early so we don’t want to be waiting.

I would love to see a day where they announce and sale is open on same day.

  • Marinko Agic

They are boring with thos security patch!
Give us better speaker sound for XZ, better camera update…

  • Sahil

Nougat for XA, XA ultra -_-

  • LazAndKor

And the Z5 Family with 7.0, still stuck at December 1st security patches… Great… Confirmed that Sony doesn’t care for the Z5/Z3+

  • Nicosea

    A shame :-(

  • razorg

They should at least provide “recent” patches (what I mean by “recent” is; if the update is released in March, it should be March patches, not January…) once in 2 months, just like Samsung is doing with older flagships (even Galaxy S5! Yes, S5. Poor Z3….). But let alone this, they still haven’t fixed the bugs in Nougat update :(

  • LazAndKor

Looks like Sony wants to finish developer support ASAP on the Z and focus on the X.. I won’t be surprised if the Z5 stays with 7.0/7.1 forever….

  • Nicosea

Well, in such a case, my next smartphone will not be a Sony for sure.

  • Pragnesh Thakkar

where come nougat in xa dual

  • Diego

Can anyone that has updated to this new firmware (39.2.A.0.442) say if it fixed the “Phone Idle” battery drain? I’ve been holding off updating to Nougat because of this.

  • razorg

If we (Z5) get 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 (whichever will be the last version of Nougat) and security patches once in two months for the next year, I’ll be a happy and satisfied Sony customer. However, Sony is so unpredictable towards their older flagships nowadays :(

  • browngeek

Man Hong Kong, what are you playing at? X Performance still on December security updates. But I guess, at least its on Nougat.

  • Luigi De Francesco

It isn’t a drain. It tell the time who the phone is on.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

i heard the same thing since 2012 with xperia arc and xperia S

  • Diego
  • Luigi De Francesco

I have xz, I have nougat and I try nougat on other devices. It isn’t a real drain. The battery have a long duration better than mm. It signs the time when the phone is on. Android battery graph signs like a drain, but it isn’t a drain but a value. It is above in the stats but it doesn’t count on the real drains of the phone. The other drains are what we see for drains. Google must reorganize the graph. Because it is only a value e not a drain.

  • Diego

Thanks for the explanation but a lot of XZ users are complaining about a huge battery drain associated with the Nougat update. Just look at all the posts in that Sony mobile blog.

  • Moisés

    Z3 does not get security…
I do not think z4 and z5 will in the future.

  • Gohan

Xperia arc (S) and Xperia S wow what a time that was. Damn i miss my old phones.

  • Gohan

Do other companies provide patches more than Sony?

  • Nicosea

Google with Nexus and Pixels, yes.
I know, I know, only Goolge, so I am afraid my next phone will be a Pixel or an iPhone.

  • Gohan

Yeah i was expecting same. :|

  • Luigi De Francesco

They ‘re probably associate this value like a drain, because it is upper on drains and it doesn’ t disappear. But in real fact it doesn’t mean nothing. I have xz, with nougat update and I can tell you, this isn’t a drain. Only a value who tells the time who the phone is on. Only this. But the Android graph is a mess… And appear like a drain! But it doesn’t drain!

  • razorg

No sh*t Sherlock… Why are you replying to me with the point I made in my statement though…

  • razorg

And by the way, I might (and probably will) go back to Samsung if Sony keeps treating older flagships like this. I’m telling you, even Galaxy S5 is still getting security patches. That is a HUGE plus…

  • razorg

As I said in my previous comment above, I’ve got a close friend who still uses a Samsung Galaxy S5, and if I’m not wrong, it’s running on January ’17 patches (even my Z5 is running on Dec ’16). And S5’s Sony equivalent Z2/Z3/Z3C (they are essentially the same device despite the different naming), are on May ’16 if I’m correct. Although Samsung’s updating schemes are still untrustworthy, they are consistently releasing security patches even to entry level phones nowadays…

  • Diego

Thanks for the insights. I’ll just hold off updating to Nougat until Sony makes an official statement about this or users report back with their experience with this update.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Xperia Arc S did get an update to android Ics 4.0.4 though. An android version which the hardware could barely handle, but Sony (Ericsson) stil decided to update it, so it did get a great support in terms of software IMO :p It wasnt able to handle Jelly Bean, in fact no Xperia from 2011 was able to :p

  • rus_media

I had both. Didn’t love my ZL and Z5 that much.

  • rus_media

May be, my next phone will be OnePlus or Xiaomi.

  • Ron Lufias

Off topic, can I know what theme are you using?

  • Georges Matar

when will the update be released?!! :/

  • Łukasz Leszczyński

Did you hear about LegacyXperia? 2011 Xperias got KitKat which worked like charm and now they are working at Nougat for them, its slower due to low internal storage and need to use SD card as data partition, but they are far from not usable =P

  • Tochi Nwodu

Lol I was just about saying that

  • HAWX

It’s a fcking bug since Lollipop with ALL android phones, unfortunately there is no solution. Sometimes phones hide that but the drian is pretty much visible If you do tests and compare the sot time with android 4.4 or lower. I have spent many hours on various forums and official sites, at the moment I think google is doing this shit deliberately. Becuase It has been 3 years since they said they will look into :/

  • Quentin Grs

    Just get… February patch

  • Harley Jones

the z3 was completely incompatible with nougat, thats why support ended for the z3

  • pyae_phyo (Ryan Lin)

This security patches includes Zawgyi font (Burmese font which is mostly used in Myanmar but not in unicode font standard) as display font. Thanks Sony. We knew that you always care about what your users want.

  • ew210
  • Dilmeet
  • Actman

Even Galaxy S4, a flagship has been around for more than three years now; received their Feb 2017 Security Patch. Google it yourself before commenting on something immaterial. Same goes to that guy who gave you a thumbs up earlier!

  • Actman

Oooo yea Harley. Beats me. Incompatible with nougat doesn’t signify incompatible with those monthly security patches. If Samsung can do it why not Sony?

  • Actman

Yeah! How about that blo*dy slow image rendering for the album app! It annoys me all the time.

  • HAWX

It doesn’t have to be seen in phone idle, it can be under Android system or Android OS or cell standby. And It can doesn’t show itself sometimes but when you look 1 day later you can see it thath time. OR some manufacturers can hide them like Sony did with 5.1.1, but If you know your battery at 4.4.4. diffrence in real life will be obvious. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4f815e65a54af2d6997191a80db377488fb254a0c66bc7bf0d09d3d2d0a43676.png

  • Harley Jones

Because the monthly security patches are NOUGAT patches, released by the android team, and pushed out by sony….If a phone is incompatible with nougat, then its not going to be getting nougat security updates is it

  • razorg

Galaxy S5 (with the same Snapdragon 801 processor) also couldn’t get Nougat due to Google’s requirements, but it still receives Security Patches, that was my point. I wasn’t asking for Nougat. But Z2/Z3/Z3C sure deserve proper security patching!!!

  • razorg

“monthly security patches are NOUGAT patches” No! They are NOT Nougat patches! Security patches are independent of Android version.

  • Harley Jones

uhhh yes…they are…considering the OS they are being applied to is nougat. *rolls eyes*

  • bradley.warfield@mail.ru

I profited 104 thousand bucks in last twelve months by freelancing from home and I did that by working in my own time for 3+ hrs daily. I’m using a business opportunity I came across from this website i found online and I am so thrilled that i earned so much extra income. It’s newbie-friendly and I’m just so happy that i found it. Check out what I do… http://www.wzurl.me/tEXzrw

  • razorg

Dude, even the old Galaxy Note 2 (with 4.4.2) received an update last year and it was clearly visible that “Android Security Patch Level” was there under the “About phone” section. I don’t know how further this implementation can go back in the Android version timeline, but if a company decides to patch their older Android versions, they can, it doesn’t need to be a Nougat firmware for having the latest patches! Patches are independent of Android version. Go see an up-to-date Galaxy S5 with 6.0.1 MM and January patches, and then we talk. You can roll your eyes as much as you want. Check it out properly before making statements here.

  • Gohan

I had x10, arc s, xperia s and now with z3 compact. I don’t have proper compact series to replace z3c which is still strong as first day. :)

  • Gohan

Woah calm down. I just asked you. I don’t wanna Google. If they’re providing then good, I don’t have anything to pick in that.

I just asked are they providing. You said yes. End of story. *peace*

  • Actman

The best joke I ever heard. Nobody would put a blame on you if you choose to keep your mouth shut when you were commenting or defending on something which is a total nonsensical. Correct me if I’m wrong, anyone here. Does Galaxy S4 runs Nougat? S5? Note 5? Or better yet Blade A610 Plus and Blade A510. Nougat?

  • Actman

No worries mate. We were merely exchanging ideas and thoughts. No hard feeling here.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Kitkat was developed for devices with 512 MB ram jelly bean was developed for devices with 1GB of ram so yeah I think kitkat would work better then ics on 2011 Xperia line up :p

  • Actman

First of all what Windows are you talking about? What Windows to do with Android Security Patches? Or somehow you were relating between an Android OS with Windows? Perhaps you might getting too engrossed of arranging your ‘personal’ anniversary. Even a child knows Windows 95 was a history or as if your utterances were merely notional. Tell me how long does it took for Google of releasing Nougat right after Marshmallow? Does any Xperia ION or S users here are whining they ain’t got their devices of getting the latest security patch yet?

“To be fair, to support a phone that is now 5 generations old” – what phone are you trying to relate here? Sony Erricsson K750i? I can’t believe there would be such a noob trying so freaking hard in order to defend a culpable company with some cheap crap statements.

“To be fair, to support a phone that is now 5 generations old” – what phone are you trying to relate here? Sony Erricsson K750i? I can’t believe there would be such a noob trying so freaking hard in order to defend a culpable company with some cheap crap statements.

  • Actman

You were absolutely right. Iphone for me next! I owned pretty much of those Xperia devices. But considering what they did to Z5 now, I’m changing my mind.

  • Harley Jones

    Ok.
    1. Name calling? and noob at that? what are you, 6 years old?

    2. Crying about not getting nougat updates on your marshmallow device is exactly the same as crying about not getting win 10 service packs on win 95

    3. Yes, the z3 is FIVE GENERATIONS old. Since the z3 there was the z3+(or z4 depending on your region), z5, X, and now the XZ..

    4. Nobody is defending sony, nobody has to. Most people arent stupid enough to cry about their ancient phone no longer being supported.

    5. Honestly, the rest of your dribble was that…incoherent dribble.

We are in the second generation of the Xperia X family, looking at the third generation soon. Why are we surprised that the old dead Xperia Z family is falling out of support?

  • Hawdin Musali7

My z5 premium still marshmallow Malaysia, i dont know why

  • Harley Jones

Mate, you clearly miss the point…Android still supports MM aswell as nougat, Android releases monthly security patches for each, however the build numbers on these patches are different. So no, they are not the SAME updates..they may cover the same things, but because Nougat handles security very differently to MM, they are very different updates.

Now sony no longer pay for the MM support and as such no longer receive or distribute MM updates and honestly who cares. Yeah it sucks that they havnt been able to get nougat onto the z5 yet but as I understand it, they are still working on it? That is all beside the point though as the original point of this was the z3…and the z3 is ancient. there have been so many phones released since. I loved my z3 but im not the slightest surprised that sony has dropped support for it.

  • razorg

Do you realize that out there, in the REAL world, people can not afford to buy a new phone every year or even once in 2 years? And even when they can, they are often forced to get last year’s flagship as they do not want to go to mid-rangers, due to their budgets. Z3 is on the verge of being ancient, but it still is NOT ancient. And although I am a Z5 user, I’m supporting Z3 users because soon Sony will treat Z5 the same! And it’s because of people like you that companies dare to drop their older flagships so easily. And when you paid well over 500$ for it in the first place, being left out so easily hurts so bad. Who cares about security updates? LOTS OF PEOPLE! Just because you don’t care about it doesn’t give you the right to attack others. And yes, in today’s competitive market, if your competition has some feature/service and you do not, you’re bound to lose, I mean Sony. And when February ’14 phone Galaxy S5 is still getting this service and let alone February ’14 phone Z2, even September ’14 Z3 is left out by Sony, in order to FORCE users into buying a “NEWER” Sony, it’s quite acceptable for users to express their “DISGUST”? I’ve already spent enough time writing to you here so I won’t reply to you again because clearly you’re the sort of people who jumps from flagship to flagship every single year and it’s probably impossible for you to understand how “normal” people feel…

  • Moisés
  • Actman

This is exactly on how we classify a ‘noob’.
    1) “Crying about not getting nougat updates on your marshmallow device is exactly the same as crying about not getting win 10 service packs on win 95” —-> Marshmallow was released on the 5th of Oct 2015! Nougat the next, which less than a year after MM was launched. Windows 95? This is far beyond comparison if you ask me. You were expecting a 22 years old OS upgradeable to the latest anniversary version? Have you updated your calendar here mate?

    2) “Yes, the z3 is FIVE GENERATIONS old. Since the z3 there was the z3+(or z4 depending on your region), z5, X, and now the XZ” —-> Let me make a correction here. The Z3 belongs to the Fifth Generation! Not five generations old. Your assertion is misleading.

    3) “Most people arent stupid enough to cry about their ancient phone no longer being supported” —-> Wow looks like somebody was emphasizing that Z4 and Z5 devices were an ancient phone. Lol. Who exactly is a stupid idiot here?

    4) “Why are we surprised that the old dead Xperia Z family is falling out of support?” —-> If you were so freaking free on commenting of something which is totally illogical, why not spend some time of Google – ing some useful information in order to gain some knowledge for god sake. Just a little research would’ve been enough. Every OEMs are commited to support all their flagship devices going forward with all major/minor updates for at least 2 years after their release date! So are you satisfied now? Apparently talking to a wall would be smarter than talking to you.

  • paul_cus

Sony is killing the other OEMs with the fast pace of their updates. Very nice to see.

  • Rakesh Stark

why don’t you update Xperia xa with android nougat

  • Gregory See

Actions speak louder than words. Subsequently any Z3, Z4 and Z5 users who desire of supporting sony still would be regard as a pillock. Just stop buying their smartphones, full stop!

  • kramer

my HK version is still waiting for the 39.2.A.0.417 release.

  • Sahil

    Yes waiting for that

  • Sahil

How come you have volte support? Was it there bfr nougat?

  • Jerry Berglund

Doesnt seem to be a global update. Still havent gotten any security update?

  • Jerry Berglund

We have to remember that Sony (Ericsson) did warn about updating the phones. And despite that, people got angry. lol

  • Sahil

The fuck..i dont have that on my xa neither had it on z3

  • Emil Oskarsson

I had the Xperia arc s and it did indeed kinda suck when you had stock room on it, ofc I did unlock the bootloader and installed a stock based custom rom with ics 4.0.4. Then it worked like a charm for two years :D

Does anybody noticed that the screen is laggy? I’m using Xperia X. I tried restarting the phone but didn’t work. I had experienced the same problem before but not for this long.
