Xperia Weather Beta (1.3.A.1.16) introduces new Clock and Weather widget

Sony Mobile has updated the Xperia Weather Beta with a big update that adds a new Clock & Weather widget. This is the same one that you would have seen on the new Xperia handsets announced at MWC recently.

Tapping the widget allows the clock to be opened (if you press the left part) and the Xperia Weather app (by touching the right side). The widget currently only supports your current location at the moment, but this should be updated to add any destination going forward. If you’re a fan of the old Xperia Weather widget, then fear not as both widgets will run side-by-side. You can check out the full change-log below.

Xperia Weather (1.3.A.1.16) changelog

New Features:
– Clock & Weather widget – Our main new feature, as many of you have already seen on pictures from events such as the MWC, we now have a new widget, which will not be replacing the old one. This widget allows you to access clock app by taping on clock part of it on the left, whilst tapping on the weather on the left will take you to our weather app. This widget supports only the current location at the moment.
– No network connection toast – We are now displaying a toast notifying the users of lack of network connection when trying to update weather data

Bug fixes:
– Fixed missing shadow text on weather widget
– Fixed navigation drawer overstretching in multi-window mode
– Inability to find current location was fixed by adapting to new AccuWeather API
– Removed crash that occurred in multi-user mode when switching from guest to owner
– Weather widget contrast was adjusted to display better in snowy weather
– Fixed situations where multiple instances of location permission dialog were displayed
– Removed crash that occurred in multi-window mode after entering the app from the widget
– Fixed screen overlap when keyboard is extended
– Fixed screen turning white and empty when entering search location window
– Fixed text cut off on weather widget in landscape mode
– Fixed UI mess in some languages that were caused due to minus sign being incorrectly localized to languages in question
– Added explanation why some text is in English despite another language being selected in cases where localized text is not available

I prefer the Sony Weather Widget they used before (on Kit Kat, from exemple) and still regret it 5 months after using the new one… :/

    Hello!
I’ve installed the apk, but when trying to use the widget I’m getting just the old one. I’m using a z5c. Any clues?

I’m a beta tester i have it a week ago nothing has change it is the same. the only change is a different UI when you open the application.

Why do they keep updating apps like this one instead of continuing with Xperia keyboard and Sonys note and calendar app? I just don’t get it…. Xperia keyboard is waaaay better than swiftkey, same goes for Sonys calendar app vs Googles :p

Android O was just announced today…

I know right? Just bought the XA after not using Xperia’s for a couple of years only to learn that they replaced it with Swiftkey which makes no sense whatsoever (maybe they get paid to do so?). I just disabled Swiftkey and side loaded Xperia keyboard. LG and Samsung have their own versions of these ‘core apps’ it is a shame that Sony don’t do so anymore.

  • Moisés

Maybe Swiftkey’s developer pays for it..
OEM get money for all those bloatware they install on their phones..

If you’re talking about calendar, well, i already switched to Google Calendar because of their new unique UI, Xperia Calendar hasn’t got any updates since then and it;s getting boring over times so i decided to try to go Google this time

  • Haekal Zidni Barkan

Yes that’s sad. LG and Samsung’s keyboard in my humble opinion isn’t just as good as Sony’s yet Sony which already has a great keyboard switched to SwiftKey. What a shame

  • Jerry Berglund

Just have to agree…. Swiftkey makes my hair go gray…. Its impossible to use. I havent found any keyboard that is better. It gone so far that I actually dont write messages on my phone anymore.

where did you find this Side loaded Xperia Keyboard. i tried to install one, and it didnt even want to open up.

I was paid 104000 bucks previous 12 month period by doing a web-based work as well as I was able to do it by working in my own time for quite a few hours every day. I tried work opportunity I stumbled upon on the internet and therefore I am delighted that I was able to make such decent cash. It’s undoubtedly newbie-friendly and therefore I’m so delighted that I discovered out about it. Find out more about exactly what I do… http://www.cat.org.uk/snip/93439

  • Emil Oskarsson

Download Xperia keyboard from apk mirror :D I use the Xperia keyboard on my x performance running latest nougat update available for it :p

  • Emil Oskarsson

I still liked the UI more in the Xperia calendar app, but I guess we all use it differently :)

  • Emil Oskarsson

Yeah I have disabled the swiftkey keyboard aswell and only uses Xperia keyboard for now :)

  • joe

thank you i didn’t see it before .

    now THIS is a beauty

seems that everyone is disabling swiftkey. Me too. And the one from XDA developers, didnt work too. Im using the google keyboard (GBoard).
No fancy (and usless features like swiftkey) but works like a charm to me.

  • Emil Oskarsson

I’m not using the latest version so it might be something that doesn’t work with nougat on newer x devices on that version? Try the version that ends with number. 54 I’m using that one and it works just fine http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sony-mobile-communications/xperia-keyboard/

  • Jerry Berglund

Grymt. You’re were right. Sure it do spell a little wrong still, but I do remember that Sonys keyboard do learn quite good. But its much easier to write without swipe when that happens. Much more precise….

  • Emil Oskarsson

Guess I won’t tryout the latest version then xD Thanks for being my “bug-tester” haha :D
