  • the_black_dragon

btw: the button bar down in the screen is only theme-changed. Not by Android 7.1.1 ^^

  • LocalPatriot

Wow, Sony is so fast. Sony is the best.

  • shumayal

    Not for the X F5122?

  • Venkatasurya Prakash

Wht..?? Is the 7.1.1 is the last android update to z5?? I thnk sony will surely make android O to z5 family as it holds the same equivalent specs of nexus 6p.

New icone to,faster camera, faster mobile phone

  • razorg

Other smartphones rarely match their equivalent Nexus phones in terms of software support. Z3+ was released in Spring ’15, and Z5 (essentially the same device, same SoC, even same build number) in Autumn ’15 so I doubt we’ll get any more support after Autumn ’17, and taking into consideration that Android O is supposed to be released in Autumn ’17, I reckon the chances are slim :( However, if Sony does indeed release Android O for our Z5 series, I’ll sell my soul to Sony no matter what :D

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

    How’s the ram management?

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    Installing now. Almost done.

Oh I see, same as the Xperia XZs.

  • Shehab Skull

  • Emil Oskarsson

Nice one :D Sony is awesome with updates nowadays :) Even with the z4 and z5 series :) Really pleased with the updates for my z4 tablet and x performance!

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Couldn’t agree more. They’re on fire. Hope they keep it at this pace with future.

I really hope it improved the performance and multitasking in the XZ so it can perform as good as XZs. Apps still reload after putting it on the multitask bar for a while on my XZ after Android 7.0 update. Plz improve ram management!

No the scrolling is not fast,
Loop Theme crashed after first start Reinstalled it and is working fine.
    App icons changed
I cleared cache by pressing Power and Vol + button.
Phone was hot initially now cool after two restarts.
Regarding battery Nothing can be said before 12/24 hrs.

  • Moisés

Because it does not work for xperia launcher…

  • Moisés

    I believe z4 ends now..
Z5 may get 8.0 the same way z3 was going to have 7.0.

Usually IFA flagship gets one more update than MWC flagship.

  • Moisés

Has Sony calendar been repleaced by Google’s ?

  • Bryan Grobmann

Does anyone know if it’s going to be released to the Z3+ Dual?

    U mean faster startup camera??

  • Tochi Nwodu

Nougat is a nightmare on z5 if dey ever update To 7.1.1

  • razorg

I used to be on Customised UK firmware, and I had updated through OTA and there were issues, but since I flashed and clean-installed Customised AU firmware, my complaints have diminished. I must admit it’s not as good as I wanted it to be, but it’s OK. I hope they will release 7.1.1 as a properly optimised firmware, and I’ll be a happy customer :)

  • Pankaj Kumar

u updted to 7.1 or not

  • mugglearchitect

what do you think will be the last update for my z5? =(((

  • Darkfalz

Don’t like the non uniform change of Google apps icons. Ugly.

  • Moisés

Z3 was going to have 7.0, z2 was not.
    The cycle is 24 months.

    Last update…

    Z1: second half of 2015
    Z2: first half of 2016
Z3: would be second half of 2016

One Z phone is left behind every semester. 24 months after being released.

    Z4 is already 2 year old… Z5 is not.

  • razorg

Dude, it doesn’t matter if Sony tested Nougat on Z3, if Z3 was going to get it so would the Z2. Z and Z1 EOL’ed with 5.1.1, Z2/Z3/Z3C EOL’ed with 6.0.1. Z3+(Z4)/Z5/Z5C/Z5P will EOL probably with 7.1.1 (and if not 7.0). These phones had SAME BUILD NUMBERS with each other in their respective groups. Sony never dropped a phone every half-year. They were always dropped as pairs. Why do you insist on ignoring the facts? Devices with the same build number are treated the same, regardless off their time of launch in the year. Look at XZ and X Performance, same build number, same day of update…. For crying out loud, please open your eyes before you insist on misinforming people with your wishful thoughts and be realistic. Examine the evidence in your hands before speculating…

  • razorg

Because that’s always been the trend with Sony for the past couple years. After 2 years, Sony gets reluctant to release anything else, not even security patches….

  • RuggeD_XBoY

And that’s why I’m waiting for an update…

  • Ahmed Fakher

What does this update feature? And how is it different from 7.0??
App shortcuts! Do u mean the feature that exists in android 5/5.1 OS?

  • Deki

Is this going out for Z5?

  • razorg

No. (At least “not yet”) fingers crossed :)

  • Adam Varney

Why? 7.0 was useless and by all accounts 7.1 is no better. Marshmallow was vastly superior.

  • Sunrise

Yes. Z5 will get 7.1.1 but in 2 months

  • Sunrise

Yes it will be last update for z3+. Bye

  • Genorok

Well it looks like the battery life might actually have been improved for once. Usually I’ve lost 10-15% by now and I’ve only lost 5. I’ll have to keep an eye on it.

  • Yumekawa♡

Xperia Calender not included in my XZ but you can still download from Play Store and disable Google Calender instead.

  • MartyLK

I’m wondering if this update will break the fingerprint scanner for US versions with U.K. firmware?

  • Nilesh Makwana

Yes the battery life is significantly improved.

  • Marty

Im wondering if this update will break the fingerprint scanner for US phones with U.K. firmware?

  • razorg

Why post the same comment from different accounts bro? Why? :D

  • Marty

    Refresh your browser, dude.

  • razorg

    Ok ok we’re cool now :D ….

  • Marty

For some reason this site signed me in on Google rather than Disqus when I opened this page. Didn’t notice it till too late.

  • Diego

Would you be able to share a screenshot of your battery usage? I would be extremely happy if Sony finally fixed the Phone idle battery issue with this update.

  • razorg

I see. We gotta be careful bro :)

  • Marty

No need to be careful, just that my dedicated bookmark monitors my Disqus login. And my associated email informs me when new activity occurs.

  • Kliment Stamenkov

What theme is that in the screenshot? I like the nav buttons, very clean and minimal.

  • Moisés

Like iphone… You press the icon and a menu shows up..

Example. Cam app. You press it and there is a menu with TAKE A SELFIE, MAKE A VIDEO. You no longer need to open app to access functions.

  • Moisés

    Opa, blz?

Vc tem o patch de março? Tenho notificação aqui mas fico com pé atrás de atualizar e piorar o aparelho.
Até hoje tive sorte, nenhum dos bugs que o pessoal tem com o 7.0.

  • Moisés

Thanks… I saw that XZs and Premium have Google SMS and Calendar instead of Xperia .

  • maleck johnson

Still no updates for xa ultra which promise nougat.

  • Aldi Wan Kenobi

So…is Sony Mobile the first one to release Android 7.1.1? (Well, After Google Pixel)…

  • razorg

I guess they are. Bravo to Sony :)

  • Vlad
  • Moisés

Sony has promised 24 months update. At least for better phones. ( M5 and C5 deserved to have 7.0)

    Last august Z2 was already 28 . Z3 was 22 only.

Z1 did not get 6.0 becuse it was 30 already. People got very disappointed. Mainly because Z1 seems to be Sony’s best seller among all Z phones.

According to your idea Sony leaves a pair behind at once. Which would be every second half of year ( Z/Z1 : Q4 2015, Z2/Z3: Q4 2016). So Z4 and Z5 would have to end up together in Q4 2017.
But one device would have 6 more months of update than your ” brother”.

It would be unfair to whoever owns the IFA flagship. And we all know IFA flagship is always better than MWC flagship.

    Z1 > Z
    Z3 > Z2
    Z5 > Z4
    XZ > XP

( I dont metion XZP, I believe the 4K is going to arrive every 18 months only. )

Z4 has been around 22 months, while Z5 only 18. If Sony does not bring Android 8 to Z5 , Sony will be breaking the deal. Z5 trinity seems to be very popular among XB readers.

No android OEM gives 30 months update. You get this if you have a Nexus or Pixel.

  • razorg

“No android OEM gives 30 months update. You get this if you have a Nexus or Pixel.” Yes that’s the reason I’m saying Z5 won’t get it because from Sony’s point of view, Z3+ and Z5 are essentially the same, so if they release the update for Z5 and not Z3+, Z3+ owners will be enraged, so to prevent this they’ll drop Z5 as well so that some of the people in the “enraged” group will say “meeh Z3+ was old anyway” and the anger will subside. We’ve seen this on older Sony phones.

You know what? Let’s stop here, time will tell us. If both you and me will be around here in the upcoming 6-7 months, we’ll discuss how it turns out here, ok? :) I seriously spent a lot of my time here writing comments, and it seems you have more time than me. So let’s wait and see ok? ;)

  • shawn

    is there any VoLtE?

  • Emil Oskarsson

There has been support for VoLTE since the release of the xperia x line? xD

  • shawn

i had the Xperia XZ for US model and havent seen VOLTE?

  • azzido

    This is a positive news.
To be honest I thought that Sony will be delaying deployment of this release only because they will want XZ Premium ad XZs to get it first (as it was in the past), no matter the software is ready.

Surprisingly they released it faster without delaying it with purpose.
This indicate a positive change, hope they will keep it.
The only thing is I do not like the new icons.

Can’t wait to see if there are any changes to camera’s picture quality, battery life, sound volume and app multitasking.

Good job Sony, people will spread the news.
    Positive news.

  • mountain

XperiaBlog, you are saying the the most prominent feature of the update “being able to use an app shortcut” does not work with the phone? What a great update!

  • LazAndKor

The XZs and XZPremium begin with 7.1 , so its not a problem at all and Sony can focus on 7.1 for the XZ,XP,X,XA,Z5/Z3+.

  • Bryan Grobmann

  • azzido

Just installed and have few observations:

    1. Performance seems to be much faster, all the animations are fluent.
    2. New Smart STAMINA
    3. New diagrams for Battery level (also in the dock)
    4. Camera UI works faster, new Panorama app
    5. New widget for clock and second for clock and weather
    6. In the telephone dialer we can swipe left (to see favorites) and right (to see contacts) + there is no longer this nice animation when scrolling the Contacts list in Contact app
    7. Not sure if it is new but in programming options there is “Screen color mode” with option use sRGB :)
    8. Again performance is super fast, even multitasking window is now very smooth and fast.

Battery seems to be to be draining faster but it is fresh installation so you know how it is :) :) :)

  • azzido

I do not like it much too, but it is only for Google apps, so no issue.

  • Moisés

    Vlw…

  • azzido

how can I get this theme?

  • azzido

no, camera app is working faster, for example switching between the modes etc. You can notice it.

  • djfapples

    How’s the ram management??

  • tomstwocents

They changed the style of the analog clock (the widget for the start screen). I loved the old design. It was so much more classic.

    Now it’s all modern.

  • Tomislav Matić

No they are not. One+ released Android 7.1.1 first.

  • maleck johnson

Every other phone getting improvement but not xperia xa ultra

  • Łukasz Leszczyński

I managed to open 9 apps (including Facebook and Messenger) until one app got reloaded (Sleep as android to be specific), so looks much much better than in 7.0.

Btw did we have Steady Shot in 4K mode? Because we have now :)

  • djfapples

    Thanks

  • bitti06

beside the smart stamina mode, i see all other changes in customised ch firmware.

  • bitti06

can you take a screenshot of the new Smart STAMINA screen please ? i don’t find it

  • bitti06

and i thought it was a new mode and not a notification settings.
    thanks anyways.

  • azzido

I simply do not see the issues. I think many people complaining about RAM management have the Intelligent Cleaning option turned on in settings and this option is killing the apps /processes that was not used for the longer time. Then people are saying the phone is not keeping the session in memory and need to reload the apps content frequently.

  • azzido
  • azzido

We already had it, what we are still missing in 4K mode is 60fps and Intelligent steady shot which is much better than standard.

  • Łukasz Leszczyński

We will never have 4K@60fps since its hardware limitation even in Snapdragon 835… And about Intelligent steady shot: I prefer 1080p@60fps with standard steady shot, than 1080p@30fps with intelligent one :/

  • bitti06

It works! with the phone on this update but not! with the Launcher included in this update

  • Szabó Béla

Then you are not waiting for anything important. Becuase you alredy have everything that we where excited about.

  • RuggeD_XBoY

So does that mean that I can’t be excited about a new unimportant feauture?

  • So, where’s that Xperia Home Update so we can try App Shortcuts? Is it already realeased? or we have to wait to devs…

  • JXperia

Does it still have tap to wake?
    XZs removed it.

  • Yes of course, but I think the point of @marcin_podsiadly:disqus has to do with the fact that Sony hasn’t released XZP yet, so, yes, definetly a very positive move from Sony!

  • Still available!

  • JXperia

    Thanks for info, Osvaido!

  • Moisés

XZ Premium is the only one able to shoot 4K 60fps..
That is because Motion Eye + SD 835.
Alone none of them can achieve..

    XZs can’t shoot 4K 60fps.

  • Moisés

    No… OP3, OP3T and Axon 7

  • Moisés

    Just curiosity…

What’s the price of G6 and S8 in your countries guys?
G6 and S8 here have same price. 1273 US dollars.

  • Ahmed Fakher

Damnn! It would be amazing if thay feature comes to Sony, neither samsung devices have it tho

  • Ahmed Fakher

I agree to disagree with u man, 7.0 is nicer than MM OS, new useful features, new panel notifications!
7.1 features night mode, apx video enhancer like samsung, audio is better come on!

  • Adam Varney

Improved over Marshmallow, or improved over 7.0?

  • Adam Varney

MM is much faster than 7.0, no lag. The dialler is better. Battery life is better. These things are essential to me.

PS Hasn’t night mode been removed from 7.1.1? Oh and what’s better about the audio?

  • Mehran

    Where is the Google assistant?

  • Emil Oskarsson

Because t mobile doesn’t support it then I guess :p Go into the phone setting, then go into “more” under the first section of choices in the menu and then “mobile networks” and from there you should be able to activate VoLTE :) Idk if the menus is called “more” and “mobile networks” might be something else I just translated it from my Swedish settings so let me know if you cannot find it :)

  • Moisés
  • Ahmed Fakher

The night mode existed in the concept!, do u have XZ or X Perf?
What OS is running on your phone??

  • Ahmed Fakher

    Audio engine equalizer is added

  • Ron Lufias

Do you know how to clear system cache? I’m, trying to access boot menu but failed to do so and accidentally load safe mode.

  • Roh_Mish

Volte is carrier dependent. The phones support VoLte but the carrier must enable it for the device too

  • Sándor Jurászik

Super update!! But dont see New lockscreen clock and Xperia Loops theme…really sad… :(

  • Roh_Mish

One thing I noticed is it says LATE+ instead of just LATE. Whatever that means.

  • Khillo81

It’s not Sony but Google that’s responsible for the rollout of the Assistant. I have it on 7.0 through an update to Google Play Services and the Google App. Check whether you have pending updates. If not, then Google hasn’t released the Assistant in your region.

  • Khillo81

They haven’t released it yet, even on the beta channel. They haven’t even confirmed whether it would ever make it to Xperia Home. We’ll either have to wait and see or use another launcher.

  • Khillo81

For the SMS, Google has a new agreement with most of the manufacturers to stop development on their own SMS apps and use Google’s instead. The point being that Google is trying to replace the ancient SMS with RCS. They also have agreements with most of the providers.

  • Does any of you guys know how to enabe the native night mode on this version? I was using some third apps to enable it on previous version, but they don’t seem to work on 7.1.1
    Please help!

  • Night Guy

Great, it could atleast reduce my disappointment from slow camera processing on z5.

  • Nafnaf84

Good, thanks, do you know if the pictures are also charging faster when you see them from the Camera and the Album apps (I mean at 100% when you zoom or double tap on them, it was normal in Marshmallow (1 or 2 seconds) but annoyingly slow in Nougat 7.0 (8 to 10 seconds to see them correctly))?

  • Khaled Muhammad Eltoukhy

Even after the new update 7.1.1 the sound of the dial tone is still very low and not in the volume level of the same tone through the music player as well when playing a video movie with a mkv extension is significantly slower itching and finally Candy Crush three parts slow in the movement of graphics dramatically and these defects From the previous version of Android 7.0 and my new phone did not go on buying it for two weeks. When will I find the solution Sony

  • WHAMMY!

Is it just me or when trying to activate sRGB mode nothing happens?

  • Actman

This is one of the major problem pal. Fanboys look extremely tempted for new updates! Praising hell yeah for a precise speedy update from Sony. Mocking other OEMs that couldn’t be on par with Sony’s. But what they didn’t know is the pointless basis of having a speedy update that lack of new features! Look at Sammy, yea they might slow up for delivering a major update but look what a plenty of features they provided to those in house users out there. That is what we called a ‘PRECISE UPDATE’. Not to mention APPLE here!

  • azzido
  • azzido

Maybe someone from Sony can answer?

    I think it is faser.

  • azzido

Unfortunately I do not know. Try tk google it. Power button hold + volume down/up? may help.

  • azzido

Thanks, do you know any video that confirms 60fps in 4K mode???

Dziękuję Łukasz :) how do you know it is hardware limitation of the processor?

  • Łukasz Leszczyński

    Nie ma sprawy =P

Qualcomm have posted whole specs for every processor they made on their site – e.g. Snapdragon 835 is here:
    https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/835

Under Video section there is stated:
    Video Capture
    – Up to 4K Ultra HD video capture @ 30FPS
    Video Playback
    – Up to 4K Ultra HD video playback @ 60 fps

    after updated lag。

  • Attila Golik

Irrelevant. Sony’s best smartphone is the XZ Premium with SD 835, not the XZs with SD 820. This comparisation is useless.

  • Adam Varney

I bought the XZ worried about the 3GB of RAM but I figured that SONY must optimise their phones to need 1GB less than the competition. I was wrong and four months after release SONY announced that their new phones would have 4GB, which is obviously what the XZ should have had. We were shortchanged.

  • Objectif

    OK. Thank you.

  • Zihan

    When z5dual get 7.1.1?

  • QBerto

Irrelevant comment, true is that may not be fair compare a 2016 phone with a 2017 phone, but is sony fault for announce a phone in february and release it half year later, making the “fair comparison” impossible, that dude is just comprising what exist right now

  • Attila Golik

True. The solution for this: compare flagship phones AFTER both released, not before :)

  • Genorok

It’s because Sony didn’t bake in the required certificates for T Mobile VOLTE. They did on some European carriers but none in the US

  • azzido

There is a rumor that probably Sony will offer xz premium with these headphones:
    MDR100ABN

We already get the headphones for XZ Sony, would be nice to get something else :(

  • shawn

oo ok thanks so sony phones wont be getting VOLTE for tmobile or they working on it?

  • Moisés

No … I saw this info when I read about a press in San Francisco when Sony presented the new imx400.

  • betatesterz

Are there any notable new features for Xperia’s 7.1.1 firmware?

  • razorg

I do not want to “restart” our argument here but, Google just announced that the S810 powered Nexus “Nexus 6P” will not be guaranteed another Android Version update after September ’17 according to this link (http://www.droid-life.com/2017/04/27/google-pixel-nexus-death-dates/).

When this is the case, bearing in mind the fact that OEM manufacturers often drop their phones with older Android versions than their Nexus equivalents, Z5 series should be grateful if they even get 7.1.1 at all. The good thing is though, although Nexus 6P probably won’t be updated to Android O, it will get Android Security Patches until September ’18, and I hope Sony provides us with the same kind of service too…

  • Moisés

    It is true …. Pre-order.

Phone is 645 euros, headphones 300 euros.

  • Moisés

    2 year… Nexus 6 had 2,5 years….

What I was saying is all z phones have had 24 months of update. If Sony leaves z5 now, updates do not reach 24 months but only 18.
Even worst to those owners of Z5P, that in many locations costed more than a 128 gb iphone.

It would be a very bad move ….

  • Jualgusu

No, Sony isn’t the Best!!! No Nougat for Xperia XA yet!!! I buy the phone because promise to upgrade to Nougat, but until now is still on Marshmellow! and is impossible to use the microSD as Extended Memory. My worst buy ever!!.

  • Adam Varney

Calm down. Marshmallow is actually better than Nougat. It is faster and has less bugs but if you’re dying for a slower phone then be my guest. I have the XZ and downgraded back to Marshmallow. My phone now zips along again.

  • razorg

I 100% agree with you, for that price, people should get more software support, but that doesn’t mean that I am ignoring the facts before me. Yes, Sony promised at least 24 months of software update guarantee, but you and Sony perceive these phones very differently. From your point of view, Z3+ and Z5 are not the same, and because Z5 is 4 months newer, it will have the Android O upgrade chance but Z3+ won’t. But from Sony’s perspective they are the same. It’s not the models which have “ages”, what separates them is the chipset inside, it’s the age of the chipset that Sony is counting as a software support criteria. Sony doesn’t differentiate them as Z3+, Z5 etc, for them devices with the same chipset are in the same update group. So it would be inaccurate to say “for Android O, Z3+ will pass it’s age but Z5 will still have time”, because Z5 is the fixed version of Z3+, and even at it’s launch, Z5 was 4 months old from Sony’s perspective. I’m telling you, both Z5 and Z3+ are now running on “32.3.A.2.33” firmware, and the 32 at the first part of the build number specifies the model. Both Z3+ and Z5’s build numbers start with 32. And Sony has newer left out a device while giving an update to another model with the same build number.

For the other issue, in Android ecosystem, one should always take Nexus phones as basis, in order to guess other equivalent OEM phones’ futures. Never in history a device got more Android version upgrades (often less but newer more) than their respective Nexus equivalents.

Nexus 4 – Xperia Z both ran on Snapdragon S4, both devices died on 5.1.1 Lollipop.

For Snapdragon 800/801 devices, we have Nexus 5 (S800), Galaxy S5 (S801), Xperia Z2 (S801), Xperia Z3 (S801), Xiaomi Mi4 (S801), HTC M8 (S801). All these devices stopped receiving upgrades on 6.0.1 Marshmallow. (There was also Xperia Z1 (S800) which didn’t even get Marshmallow, it died on 5.1.1 Lollipop).

For Snapdragon 808/810 devices, we have Nexus 5X (S808) and Nexus 6P (S810), and Xperia Z3+ (S810), Xperia Z5 (S810), HTC M9 (S810), and Galaxy S6 (Exynos 7420-S810 equivalent). Now we know Nexus 5X and 6P will not go further than 7.1.1 Nougat, so this means it would be stupid for us to expect more from OEM manufacturers (like Sony) while even their “BOSS” Google is not going to do anything more for their Nexus counterpart phones.

I agree with you, Z5 series, especially Z5P was really expensive and for that money one expects more support, but that’s not how Android ecosystem works. What Sony should now do is to release a very good/stable/bug free 7.1.1 upgrade for us Z3+/Z5 series users, make them stand at equal point with their equivalent Nexus 6P and just like Nexus 6P we should keep getting regular Security Patches just like Nexus 6P until September ’18 and everyone will be happy. But expecting Android O is unrealistic. At this point we’re not even sure if Android O will definitely be released in September-October 2017. It’s probable that it might be delayed further. So making assumptions and believing with certainty that Sony will release Android O to Z5 is not rational man… :/

  • Genorok

No clue. They had it with the Z3 T-Mobile edition but I’ve read nothing indicating either way on VOLTE or Wifi-Calling for their unlocked phones and the US carriers.

  • azzido

Unfortunately Sony was already giving headphones with XZ :(
Can we have something else? Maybe Smart band talk? Or smart band 2? Are there chances that carriers will offer something else? :(

  • azzido

Still Sony wins there in terms of apps :)

  • washinma2424

Where the hell is the UK or USA update at Sony?! I mean damn I already had to flash the UK just to get the fingerprint scanner and battery features working. SMDH

  • Adam Varney

Battery idle time is much improved, but battery drain whilst using the phone is much worse. Bluetooth bug remains. Sony launcher doesn’t support the new app shortcuts. Camera slightly faster to open, and some users have reported that grain in photos is slightly improved. Overall, Marshmallow is still much better apart from the double tap to wake bug.

  • Moisés

Those headphone with XZ were simpler..
    XZs came with bluetooth speaker..

Does that smart band ( z2 and z3) work for other devices?

  • Szabó Béla

I am still sitting on 7.0 on the XZ. Have no clue why it’s missing, it’s free from any provider. Should had been one of the firsts to get it.
    Well i am just waiting.

  • JC

It’s actually LTE/LTE+… some carriers call it LTE Advanced or LTE+, which is bascally just higher-speed LTE.

  • Heeyeon Ahn

Got a US XZ on Monday, I can also confirm no 7.1.1. It’s still on 7.0. Really surprised every google search I’ve done says it’s been released on April 25, but no one’s mentioned that it’s still not out in the US.
