by XB on 14th November 2017

in Rumours, Xperia XA series

Sony is planning new mid-range models for 2018, judging by new model numbers found in the GFXBench website and through UAProf’s (user-agent profiles). The Sony H3213 ‘Avenger’ model was spotted in GFXBench which looks like be a 6-inch 1080p device, running either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630, 636 or 660 chipset.

The benchmark points to a device with 32GB internal storage, 4GB RAM, with a 23MP rear camera and 16MP selfie camera. The same Sony H3213 (H32XX) model number was also spotted through an official UAProf, along with a Sony H3123 (H31XX) model. Both of these confirmed the use of a 1080p display. We’ll bring you more news as we have it.

Thanks KF, Michael and Moisés!

  • It seams decent for a min range…

  • Moisés

    CPU is the 630.

  • Avenger huh? Next code name Infinity War? Interesting.

  • Subham Dey

Seems like sony have a decent 2018 lineup..
    Lot of mid rangers.
    31XX,32XX, 33XX and 41XX,43XX
4XXX seems like premuim mid rangers..

  • Moisés

    If the midrange is Avenger.
    Flagship should be Terminator..

  • Moisés

No more premium midrange like M5, X and X Compact.

  • Subham Dey

    Sony Always changes statregy,..
Earlier they said no to low end/entry level devices..
But just some days ago they announced entry level R series Exclusive for india!!

  • fried_egg

Avenger sounds aggressive… surely “Vlad’s” Verge reviews have not annoyed them that much.

  • Phaneendra Satya Ram

6inch 1080p seems like jdi’s new thin edge display…. oops then its thin top and down bezel phone?

  • Moisés

    But is still 16:9

  • andres

a pic of the phone any time soon? please??

  • Gahead

That V;ad surely is a hater, that’s why I don’t seriously tend to the Verge phone reviews, they’re obviously too bias to a certain phone, I only take GSMArena for other reviews except the camera, for Camera I take Btekt’s one because we all know Xperia’s dominant quality is on Manual mode.

  • Kwstakhs

I guess you have many videos recorded on 18:9 and you need it desperately…
(no mean to offend you here, just joking)

  • Łukasz Leszczyński

Sony never said they are going to go 18:9 with Mirage, they only suggested that they will drop some of those “huge” besels next year. No offence i love my bezels in XZ1, buy in my opinion they will release only one device with 18:9 screen in premium sector for this time.

  • Moisés
  • Moisés

    I prefer 16:9

  • Moisés

I was telling him the phone will probably be 16:9.
I would never buy 18:9, I think it is waste of time.

6″ 16:9 is probably bigger than 6.2″ 18:9″. Screen area.

I have a Z3+. I feel very satisfied. Just wish it had cam controls like X phones.

  • Kwstakhs

Yes man I know what you mean, that’s why I mentioned I’m kidding

  • Probably by the end of january

  • Gahead

Plenty of them have some reviewers whom they pay for positive reviews, I guess Sony is just too kind and honest? Idk, did their Alpha series of camera team and Playstation team paid some reviewers?

  • Kim

Makes sense. Bokeh for nice looking portrait selfies…

  • Moisés

    It is true.

Sony Pictures and Playstation dont use 18:9.
No tv is 18:9 and PS Remote would have black bars.

  • Moisés

    I agree

  • Moisés

Probably rgb + monochrome like Huawei

  • nzone

    Looks shitty

  • azzido

    Low end…

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

But why only on the front? It might be a wide angle like LG instead.

The new trend become an unreasonable thing for some people like me. Smartphones are getting smaller and smaller, referring to the new aspect ratio. The first time the new aspect ratio come out is from the GALAXY S8. i went to check it, I thought it is way bigger than mine because at that point of time I still don’t know how the new aspect ratio works. So I compared it with my XPERIA XZ, and it is just slightly bigger. Like wtf…

Cmon man, who doesn’t want 16:9? Smartphones are getting smaller thanks to the 18:9, like seriously I don’t like it, plus the black bars if the brand didn’t do anything about the software for YouTube, then the no bezel space would be occupied by the black bar, which will look like bezels. I would say that 16:9 is still the norm, even though 18:9 is more suitable for multimedia

If that is the case then Sony will be one of the first for the big brands to have that. If they put it on their high-end flagships will definitely be a plus

  • Piotrek

    Snapdragon 650 = Adreno 510
    Octa Core @2,2 GHz with Adreno 508 = Snapdragon 630 or 636.

  • Yasir Fawad

You forgot to mention that it has a dual selfie camera a first for Sony…

  • Battal

    Bezelsenger !

  • Gambi

And its best use is no other than wide angle.

    Let’s examine:
-I would appreciate telephoto if it could zoom into the deepest part of my soul clearly. 2x Optical? Why even bother when digital 2x is more than enough?

-Monochrome is nice, but I just wish it really works as advertised and explained. Huawei has become a good smartphone photography player after the dual camera debut, but didn’t convince me enough to say that their solution is the best.

-How many times do you have to move back just to get everyone and everything into the frame? Probably more than once in your life. And by moving backward, you also loose details due to farther distance from the main subject. Wide angle is seriously the best use of secondary lens, because barrel distortion can be fixed in processing, but no software can fix the struggle of having to move back just to get everything together.

Sony knows this well, heck even have it on their XZ1 Compact, so I do think LG did the right decision on what to do with dual cameras.

  • shenoy

What is wrong with 16:9 as per u..

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

    go buy R1

  • Moisés

Im my opinion this concept could point to what we may see next year.
Except the screen, that gladly may still remain 16:9.
    The corners make the Y.

  • Phil Gym

It looks nice. I like it. But Sony never makes a concept come real unfortunately..

  • iia3ezu

Well, at least this ‘midrange phone’ doesn’t have a crappy Mediatek.

But because it is not a flagship phone, there’s a higher chance that we will see ‘poor people’s backward technology’ such as FM radio and the 3.5mm audio jack.

However, a 6 inch screen combined with Sony’s big ass bezels will make the phone quite bulky. The only way people can tolerate this is if the phone has a very big battery.

HTC U11 Plus has a 3930mAh battery. Over to you, Sony Mobile.

  • Amsakanna
  • Federico Rogers Nelson Ciccone

With a new design, 16:9 bordless

  • Moisés

Front cam of Ultra is 20mm.
More than enough to have many people.

The super wide angle of LG is 13 or 11mm I guess. Too much for front camera.

I think 26mm for rear and 20mm for front is the best.

  • Cranky romano

The first smartphone anounced and available with 18:9 aspect ratio is lg g6 not galaxy s8. Thats way samsung added 0.5 on top of 18 to avoid being branded as copycat again. Remember when they copy xperia’s glass metal body and waterproofing. There is nothing original when it comes to shamesung aside from s-pen and curved edges.

  • Francis Troy Fabrigas

It’s better to have even wider still. 120° is probably the sweet spot though.

  • Why not? With smaller bezels (as I wrote: S M A L L E R, not bezeless, I don’t want bezeless Xperia, it would be heresy, and Emperor hates the heretics!) it’s possible to have bigger screen and smaller device. And as Mirai is coming we may se some change.
