Xperia L2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra names outed by regulators

by XB on 28th December 2017

in Rumours, Xperia L series, Xperia XA series

Sony Mobile is set to launch the Xperia L2 (H43XX) and Xperia XA2 Ultra (H42XX) smartphones in 2018. The names of both phones were outed by telecoms regulators in Malaysia and Thailand. The naming choices follows on from this year’s models, which included the entry-level Xperia L1, and mid-range 6-inch Xperia XA1 Ultra.

There were a number of models in the Xperia XA1 series this year, including a normal sized 5-inch Xperia XA1, as well as a 5.5-inch XA1 Plus. Given the number of model numbers already released so far, there’s a good chance Sony will be doing the same in 2018, with Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Plus models.

The Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra (H4213, H4233) has previously been spotted in benchmarking site GFXBench. This revealed a device that had a 6-inch FHD display, running Android 8.0 Oreo, and powered by a Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The only thing we know about the Xperia L2 (H4311, H4331) is that it has a 720p display, Bluetooth 4.2 and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

There’s a good chance that we might see some new Sony smartphone news appear at CES on 8 January 2018. We’ll keep you posted.

    Where is flagship?

  • Phil g

I hope the part about Sony using a Qualcomm chipset in the the XA2 Ultra is true. It would be great if Sony used the Snapdragon 600 series for the XA2 devices and the 400 series for the L2. That will allow Sony to better compete in the mid-range and budget segments.

  • iia3ezu

Looks like Xperia XA2 Ultra (H4233) will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip.

    Adreno 508 = Snapdragon 630, most likely.

    https://www.soyacincau.com/2017/12/28/sony-xperia-xa2-ultra-malaysia-passes-sirim/

At least it’s not Mediatek crap. Not interested in Mediatek crap.

Let’s see how the Xperia XA2 Ultra compares in price/performance compared to the Xiaomi Mi A1. Xiaomi Mi A1 has stock Android and similar specs; Xperia XA2 Ultra probably has a slightly better camera.

I think the Xperia XA2 Ultra will be overpriced again, and you’ll see a little discount just before the Samsung Galaxy S9 is announced.

  • Geralt

At launch it will be around Rs.27,000.00 or Rs.29,000. As soon as Flagships start rolling in it will start getting price cuts. I guess its okay to have a larger profit window at start when people are desperate and reduce it and make it affordable for others later :)

  • hansip

Good move by Sony, but with how XA1 goes, mid range Mediatek is not a bad chip too. But ofc if we can get faster update then so be it.

  • Ext
  • hansip

    Bowahhh if that’s true then dayuuummm… #nomoney #whocares #sonyftw

  • Phat-t

Hey, that’s my Xperia wish list! Not that 18:9 screen tho -__-

  • Ext

I think it is still 16:9 but bezel-less

  • Night Guy

Holy shit for that specs, it is too exaggerate for sony mobile( well we know sony mobile always make small improvement on their camera). That optical steadyshot tho…… If its true, I guess this phone once again will be the best smartphone on mwc 2018.

  • Alvin

Fake. I can even do it by opening one of those devices in sony’s website, then click “inspect” and edit everything I want to.

  • Itsarapong Intoum

This look strange and too good to be the real thing.

  • Moisés

    First Xperia came in 2008.
    So we have 10 years.

This might be the anniversary edition.

  • Moisés

Note 5 has 5.7″ screen. For example.
If you decrease bezels maybe to 50%, I believe it could be about 14,5cm

  • Nodar Sixarulidze

    Sony’s new design confirm

  • Night Guy

Yeah and apple anniversary edition smartphone is sucks :D

  • Nodar Sixarulidze

    Xperia XA2 Ultra=400$

  • Alvin

it’s you again! you can’t go to esato because of the website is down, and you go here to share those fake news that your imaginative, delusional mind made.

Everyone can call me names but I’ve had enough with you.

  • Subham Dey

    So 4××× series stands for XA2 series…And L2.
    But what about 3××× series?
    Is this another new series?
32×× also have 6″ display and dual front camera. 31×× also have SD630!!!!!!!!

  • Alvin

and you know what, this article that you made –> http://vortex.ge/siaxleebi/sony-xperia-xz-pro-a-57-4k-oled-132&usg=ALkJrhgY3wLF7V5I0UJRKECcBQP1CDmtLQ

Well, those specs that the username “Ext” made, is actually made by ME and that Ext person is also me. I made it to make you feel dumb and now that the Esato website is down, I have an opportunity to frame you here because I knew you’ll come here. I opened XZ Premium’s page on Sony’s website and I inspected the page to edit everything I want inside it. From Display, Camera, Colours, Security, and more. Cosmic Blue and Golden Copper is actually a FAN-MADE COLOURS THAT WAS MADE BY ME and it is a part of my imaginary phone, Including that “Advanced Depth Sensing Technology” I’ve put there. If there’s a true source, you didn’t give that source a credit by saying that all those informations are yours since you’re the “insider”.

You fell into a wrong hole this time, Nodar a.k.a ADIDA! You should be ashamed of yourself.

  • Nodar Sixarulidze

Maybe XA2 Premium or Pro :)

  • goldenblls

    What’s happened to Esato?

  • Alvin

The website is down, I don’t know what happened. It says “Seems like we are having trouble serving you at the moment. Our technical staff has been notified so this should be solved soon”

  • Kwstakhs

@ni@nabilaziz:disqus every apple smarthpones sucks actually

  • Ren Jie

Seems like there will be 6 midranges..

  • 3_nity

    WTF!!!

  • dragonsneeze

Jet Black gives it away, I don’t think Sony would call it that. But you never know.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

why xperia L2 will running on 7.1.1 while nokia 2 will receive 8.1 ??? sony should play catchup because both phones is similarly price

  • XperiaBlog

    Thank you.

  • Talos the Robot

I bet it will cost over 1000 euros.

  • kappa

What is Sony Shield Tech supposed to be ?

  • kappa
  • Flythe

There actually might be something to it, though: another leak with a Snapdragon 845 devices roadmap lists both an “Xperia XZ2” and an “Xperia XZ Pro-A” for 2018. I’m definitely intrigued.

  • Moisés

They add Quantum dots to LCD and Oled.
    To increase color gamut..
Z2 was the 1st Xperia to bring Quantum Dots..

  • Moisés

    L1 matches N3

  • m477

How would that work on a mobile OLED display? There’s no color filter layer, the pixels actually light up with colors. Where would they apply the quantum dots?

  • John ford
  • Phil Gym
  • ymytbb .
  • jamie evans

    Great leak

  • Battal

    Why not SD660?

  • Itsarapong Intoum

I guess it’s too expensive for SONY’s midrange.

  • Alvin

    It’s back!

  • azzido

Everything is great but 1/2.2″ camera means the sensor is smaller than XZ Premium? :(

Also there is no info about: headphone jack, dedicated camera button and camera flash (xenon or dual flash).

Other than that the only question is: jet black or gold copper ???

    Go for it Sony! :)
I would love to see the Arc design for it, ehh. And please NO for complete bezelless phones, I like them, it could be just smaller.

  • azzido

    Hope not, ugly!

  • azzido

To be honest I hope pre orders will be shipped with something different than headphones, we received headphones 3 times in a row…

I hope to get smart band3, smart band talk2 or watch3 instead.

I wonder if they will add a stylus for this 5.7″ behemoth. Would be great for business.

  • Ryuzaki Raiga

that doesn’t mean sony can’t use to 8.0 for L2

  • Me

DAMN! THAT LOOKS PERFECT! THE SPEC IS JUST PERFECT. SO PERFECT HAHAHA. WHERE DID YOU FIND IT?

  • Me

Who knows? Sony is the first company to create OLED panel in past year. Maybe they still can good at making OLED panel.

  • Me
  • m477

first company to create OLED panel in past year

What does that even mean? Sony does not manufacture OLED panels. They use LG ones on their TVs.

  • iia3ezu

Samsung phones are not necessarily Snapdragon 845: outside America it’s mostly Exynos.

  • Alvin

Search “Sony XEL-1” or try another keyword “the first oled tv”

  • comme des garcons

Retail says three Sony devices are a go for release (in Europe) soon.
So I’d say CES launch is highly likely.
H4113 Black, Silver, Blue, Pink ~350 Euro
H4213 Black, Silver, Blue ~450 Euro
    H4311 Black, Gold ~250 Euro
    according to Roland Quandt

  • Flythe

    You’re not wrong, but what’s your point…?

  • John ford

    phonearena reports it’s fake…smh

  • John ford

    XA2, XA2 Ultra and L1

  • Phil Gym
  • m477

Ok, that’s nice. 2007 OLED technology is pretty different form the current one, and Sony doesn’t manufacture OLEDs anymore. Still, “quantum dots” are a complete nonsense, without a backlight. TV OLED displays work different than mobile ones: there’s a backlight layer composed entirely of white OLED pixels, and a color filter. The quantum dots are in the color filter. Mobile OLED displays emit colored light directly, there’s not filter.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

I would be so happy if they implement Three things.
    1. OLED Display
    2. OIS for stills and videos
    3. Full CameraAPI2

But I am afraid Sony will give full CameraAPI2 :/ Don’t care that much about bezel less/minimum bezels.

I feel like upgrading after this. I really love my XZ Premium but if this device is super awesome I might upgrade :D

  • Moisés

    Imx400 is smaller than imx300 ( z5) and imx220 ( z3).

    Imx300 = imx220 = 7.87mm
    Imx400 = 7.73mm

  • Moisés

    OIS is awful for videos…

It cant prevent shaking as good/fast as EIS(gyro).

  • Moisés

    Actually there is filter..
    Hard to explain.

Read about LG’s WRGB and Sony’s SUPER TOP EMISSION.

  • Moisés

Sony started to research oled back in 1999 or 2000.
In 2008 Sony released a 11″ tv oled only for Japan. But bigger oled screens were too expensive.

    JOLED = JDI + Sony + Panasonic

  • Phil Gym

loop…boring design again I’d like to see a new design in 2018

    http://www.slashleaks.com/wp-content/uploads/7619690595_969972293.jpg

  • Itsarapong Intoum

    Use the combination then.

  • vin

I can see the Google DevTools side panel on the first photo. Nice try. The page was edited from top to bottom by using “Inspect element…”.

  • vin

After editing a web page, don’t forget to close Chrome’s developer tools (first photo, bottom right corner).

  • m477

The TV and implementation and mobile implementation of OLED is very different. As I said in a previous comment, pixels on mobile OLED glow colored actually. On TVs the pixels are all white, with a filter on top.

  • azzido

    No, just no.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Not really bro. Look at GH5 and Sony alpha’s IBIS. Plus look how google managed to get Sensor and software stabilization working together. Everything is possible, they just have to implement it right. Even Sony’s advertising XA2 Ultra’s front cam OIS as sharper selfies.
