Over the last few days, Sony Ericsson has been heavily promoting the Xperia PLAY at the gamescom trade fair in Cologne, Germany. It has announced a number of new games for the platform (some of them timed exclusives as I’m sure you’re used to by now), so we thought we’d round up some of the biggest games news over the last few days.
9mm
Gameloft’s upcoming shooter 9mm was announced for the Xperia PLAY. The game reminds us of Max Payne with the story involving taking out a drug gang and sporting destructible environments and satisfying slow-mo kills.
Dead Space
Dead Space has finally made its way to Android following a successful spell on PC/consoles and iOS. We’re big fans having worked our way through the PC and the iPad version. This game is a port of the iOS version but customised with Xperia PLAY joypad support. See a trailer video below.
Plants vs Zombies
Popcap announced that an Xperia PLAY optimised version of its popular tower defence game Plants vs Zombies will be coming to the handset soon (no date was given). The announcement was greeted with a zombie/Android dance-off, see the video below.

Reckless Getaway
This game is interesting as it is one of the first Xperia PLAY games to feature the new Facebook inside Xperia game sharing features recently announced. This follow-up from Polarbit’s hugely successful Reckless Racing, is pretty much cops and robbers, with the police chasing after you.
Stand Out games
There were a few titles being showcased from Sony Ericsson’s new developer program “Stand Out”. Indie games highlighted included Catfish Blue’s Hyperlight, Be-Rad’s Lame Castle and an enhanced new version of They Need To Be Fed from YoYo Games.

Sony Ericsson announced that the Xperia PLAY now has over 150 game titles optimised for the handset. The Xperia PLAY library is growing, but while this is commendable we’re still wondering whatever happened to the PlayStation Suite…
