my Xperia: Helps recover a lost Xperia device

Sony trademarked “MyXperia” back in October last year. At the time we speculated that Sony may be preparing to launch its own cloud backup storage service. However, a new landing page for ‘my Xperia’ reveals that the service will, in fact, help to recover lost Xperia handsets (similar to Find my iPhone on iOS).

As the blurb says, my Xperia “can locate your device with a sound alert or display its position on a map. You can also erase data and/or lock your device if you lose it.” It is currently being tested with a select beta group in the Nordics. We tried to sign into the service ourselves, but unfortunately you need a companion app installed onto your Sony Xperia handset. It sounds like a useful service, so we can’t wait to hear more about it in due course.
