sony-logoSony Mobile is currently working on two new flagship handsets that will be released in the second half of this year. We have known the existence of the phones codenamed ‘Honami’ and ‘Togari’ for some time now, but with very few details. All we’ve known for sure is that the Togari will come with a display size larger than that of the Honami. However, reports from a number of Asian sites are providing some juicy rumours to digest.

The first is from a forum poster on Baidu who claims he is a tester for Sony Xperia devices. He starts with Togari, which is believed to sport a 6.44-inch 1080p display with a design similar to the Xperia Z. It is believed to be very slim (much like the Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z) with a glass back.

There will at least be a white colour option with a white bezel. This should appeal to those who like the all-white look of the Xperia ZL versus the Xperia Z version, which has a black face and white side/rear. The phone (or phablet if you prefer) could be launched as early as July in Japan. This ties in with the previous rumour we reported on Togari.

However, more interesting is ‘Honami’, which is believed to be the company’s ‘One Sony’ model – offering the best Sony tech in one chassis. Honami is believed to sport a 5-inch 1080p display, dedicated Walkman audio chip (S-Master MX Digital Amplifier?) and a 20MP Cyber-shot CMOS sensor with Carl Zeiss lens.

The tester goes on to say that Honami will be one of the most attractive phones Sony has ever made, even more so than the Xperia Z and iPhone 5. Honami could also see a July release, in Asia at least. Both Honami and Togari are said to be water and dust resistant.

Some of the above information is corroborated by Chinese site ePrice. It says that Honami will debut in China (with Unicom) in July and then see an international launch in August or September. This would most likely be at IFA, a traditional launch venue for H2 Sony Xperia handsets.

Honami may end up running the Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2.3GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 330 graphics says ePrice along with 2GB RAM and an embedded battery with 2700 to 3000mAh capacity. It also cites a 20MP camera sensor and says that it will come with a xenon flash and dual LED.

Lastly, another site, VR-Zone, says that the handset may run a Triluminos display according to its own sources. It also talks about the possibility of the Snapdragon 800 chipset and mentions a 16MP camera, instead of the 20MP sensor above.

Whilst all of the above are firmly rumours first and foremost, it’s hard to not be excited if they come anywhere close to being true. We’ll keep you posted with developments on both Honami and Togari.

Thanks Bob!
