Sony Mobile has confirmed that the Xperia Z series will be upgraded to Android 4.4 KitKat although no timing has been given. It confirmed that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 will get the latest version, although do not expect it in 2013.
Strange to see that the Xperia ZR does not make the KitKat list, despite running the same hardware as the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. It is also a shame to see that the Xperia SP is not on the list, given that it sits just under the flagship Xperia Z series and no doubt has the power to handle the OS. However, as Sony describes this list as the “first raft of Xperia products that we’ll make Android 4.4 Kit Kat available for“, fingers crossed we’ll see some additions to the KitKat portfolio nearer launch.
