Sony Mobile’s Creative Director Kurozumi Yoshiro has been speaking to the Japanese media following the launch of the new Xperia flagship Z2 and Z2 Tablet. He revealed some interesting information which we thought we’d share. When Mr Kurozumi was quizzed on the quick succession of flagship launches he replied that it was a function of how fast the industry was moving.
“In order to maintain a flagship, you must update at this frequency,” said Mr Kurozumi. When pressed on why Sony does not adopt a yearly update cycle, Kurozumi responded that you cannot catch up with peers on that cycle. He went on to confirm that the Xperia Z2 is the “flagship of the first half of 2014.”
Moving on to talk about design, Mr Kurozumi said that he does “not want to stick to a single design”, giving hope to users who want to see Sony move away from the OmniBalance design that first made an appearance with the Xperia Z last year, but has appeared on the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z2 flagships since.
