20140423_bSome were surprised when the Xperia Z2 Tablet used the same resolution as its predecessor i.e. a 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) WUXGA resolution display with 224 PPI. Well judging by the latest development from Japan Display Inc (JDI) it looks like we might see a 10.1-inch 4K2K (3840 x 2160) IPS display (438 PPI) land on the next iteration of the Xperia Tablet.

JDI has begun shipping samples of this new display for tablets. The display incorporates low-temperature poly silicon (LTPS) technology for low power consumption. JDI says that its power consumption is as low as a 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) LCD display. Given Sony’s strong support of the 4K format across its phones, televisions, cameras, camcorders and video content it would be no surprise to see a tablet launch with such a resolution next year.
