Sony has announced that pre-orders for the SmartEyeglass Developer Edition (SED-E1) have started today in both UK and Germany. Sony expects to launch the SmartEyeglass Developer Edition on 10 March 2015. In the UK, the SmartEyeglass Developer Edition will cost £620, whilst in Germany it is €800.
Pre-orders will also shortly commence in USA and Japan where it will be sold for $840 and 100,000 yen respectively (excluding tax). It will only be available for enterprise customers in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and Sweden. For more information on pre-orders click here.
Sony describes the SmartEyeglass as “lightweight, binocular eyewear that enables true augmented reality experiences. Text, symbols and images are superimposed onto your natural field of view.” The kit will give developers access to the SmartEyeglass as well as the software developer kit.
The first official version of the SmartEyeglass SDK, version 1.0, is also being made available for developers today. SmartEyeglass SDK 1.0 now includes better support for Android Studio and improved sample code and documentation. This builds on the version that was released last September.
