Let the countdown begin – the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware update has been certified by the PTCRB for the Sony Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact in the form of build number 14.6.A.0.368. The build number has been certified across most variants for each handset: Xperia Z1 (C6902, C6903, C6943, C6906), Xperia Z Ultra (C6802, C6833, C6843, C6806) and Xperia Z1 Compact (D5503).
A software update page for Australian carrier Telstra confirms that this latest update will include a patch for the Stagefright exploit “including the recently released patch for CVE-2015-3864.” Telstra points to an end-September release, but we would expect the generic firmware versions to be released much sooner. We’ll let you know once the firmware starts to roll.
