is it just me or is it just an extra 2cm of plastic on the bottom of the phone for no otehr reason but to have a transparent strip? Hope it serves some purpose... would not have minded if it wasnt transparent all the way across and used that space for say usb slot or making the phone thinner...

I've heard the transparent strip has antenna inside it, but what about the plastic beneath the clear strip...

I think the antenna is in the bottom 2cm part and there's just transparent wiring through the strip to connect to it...

That's what we've heard too. You can see this in the Xperia U when you remove the bottom cap.

I don't know if the transparent strip is making the difference - but the Xperia S has the best quality/strength signal of any phone I've used here.

I had to replace the bottom white cap of my xperia s. Unlike the U, it cannot be pulled off just by hand but can easily be removed by inserting something like a guitar pick around the back edge.It hinges off from the bottom right corner where the antenna is located.

the transparent strip is the antenna, and the bottom also is an antenna, but i really don't know witch one is it. I just know that the gsm antenna must be on the bottom on all phones.
