Well I'm running 47.1.A.16.20 Oreo UK customised. I'm actually in New Zealand but installed this update as Sony XZ1's here were stuck on their original software and about 12 system updates behind the rest of the world. Anyway I just today noticed that there was NO text-to-speech functionality in 'Smart Connect' anymore under settings. I checked my Z5 which is still on Nougat and it was still there so I guess Sony for reasons of their own removed that ? Anyway I've used 'Apk Extractor' to grab the APK from the Z5 and then installed it on the XZ1 and Voila ! I have 'text to speech' back again. This is VERY useful for having the phone read incoming texts when you're wearing headphones etc . Hope this helps someone.
