I have an Xperia Z and I love many things about it. Nice screen, premium feel, cool accessories and water proofness (if that's a word). However I must say that the camera performance is so underwhelming that I am beginning to wonder if my unit is faulty in someway. I have two new puppies so was looking forward to using the much vaunted 13 megapixel camera to take some cool shots of them doing funny or cute stuff. However the pictures I taken are barely good enough for Facebook. I have tried using the Super Auto and letting the software work out the best setting and I've tried tweeking them manually. Each time I get the same very grainy poor quality images. Even in really good light the quality is just mediocre at the very best. Even a small amount of zooming in reveals noise and over sharpening. I have a number of phones and even my old Nokia N900's 5mp shooter takes much better images, never mind comparing it to my Nokia 808! My partner's HTC Titan completely wipes the floor with it. Considering how much expertise Sony has with digital imaging I can only assume that the unit is somehow faulty; surely they wouldn't put such a poor camera on their 2013 flagship? Has anyone else had similar experiences? I am one more disappointing photo away from selling the unit and getting an Oppo Find 5.
I dont have another to compare, but i think your opinion is same to me. The image is poor, i think its because the software, the size of foto is small, the compressien is not good. Foto result has an effect like surface blur on photosop... Wish sony cobsider our opinions...
I would suggest you go to a dealer and compare yours with another Z take pics of the same subject. I am very happy with the quality of my pics taken with my Z. Obviously make sure there is nothing obstructing the camera lenses.
Its just because the result is not what i expected. Comparisson is avaialable at gsmarena . Com the sample pic at that site is same to mine and its not better compare to another device but in a low light condition
FYI, I have a ZL and I'm amazed by the camera. I have a couple of Canon point-and-shoot digitals, and the ZL camera is WAY better. Granted, I don't have any SLRs, but the ZL is my best digital camera going by image quality.
The camera SW is just plain bad! Sony "lies" basically to reel you in. A 13MP camera (Photos are 9MP claiming hi-res or professional quality) Epic "lie" or Marketing 101 which Sony excels at! You'll see how "better" SW and settings give better images. If going to tout "professional" then a RAW format option is needed. Phone has good amount of memory and supports up to 64MB of MicroSD. Plenty of room for user to choose but Sony dictates!
