Hi, I lost my Xperia S charger 2 days ago, I've been looking around in local shops for a new one but I haven't had luck. So I needed my phone so bad I bought a USB cable thinking on charging my phone using my computer. When I bought an Micro USB cable (generic) plugged it into my computer and the phone, first thing I noticed is that it worked, and the Sony and Xperia logos appeared, and then the Battery icon, but after 30 mins, I grabbed the phone and saw that the battery logo was gone, and the light was still in "red" color. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the red light was still there, but nothing else shows up, and I can't start my phone. Then someone lend me an LG charger, tried to charge it but it didn't work. Same thing as with the USB cable, the red light is still on, but nothing else shows up in the screen, and I can start my phone, not even connected. I'm thinking the battery is dead and it needs the original charger with the right output (voltage) to charge it again, but I'm also worried I might fried the battery or something else of my phone. Any ideas ?
I've not had any problems charging my Xperia S using USB from computer (both with the 'offiical' lead that came with the phone and a generic one I picked up somewhere... It charges fine in the car as well (some cheap cigarette lighter -> phone cable I got from eBay). Try taking the phone back to where you got it and see what they have to say about it. Mat
Hey Mat, Thanks for the reply. I'm trying now with a Motorola Razr charger with the same results, as soon as I plug in the charger the red light shows up, but the screen is blank, the battery icon is not displayed or else, also I'm trying to start the phone and it's not working. Any idea ?, how about removing the battery and put it back in ? Cheers
Sorry dude... Can't say that I know a lot about trouble-shooting phones... I just thought I'd let you know there are no issues with charging with generic cables... Just had a look in the back of my phone... The battery's actually part of the phone... not a seperate unit as with most phones... maybe a good idea to NOT try and remove it unless you know what you're doing. Best idea I can offer is same as my last post... Try taking back to the shop... it sounds slightly dodgy to me. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes. Mat
