I see very little mention of problems with the three virtual buttons so am I the only one who's being driven insane by them? It seems sometimes they work first time, sometimes I'm prodding away like a crazed morse code operator. It also seems that someetimes I need to touch right on the silver dot, sometimes above it and sometimes off to the side of it?? I can't really fault the phone so far on anything else but as this is such a pivitol part of the UI I don't imagine I can live with it for 2 years and am seriously considering sending it back Anyone else struggling with this?
This is something that we mentioned in our review. They are frustrating however we've come to a happy compromise - try swiping from the bar upwards to the screen, seems to work every time!
Interesting, that really seems to work Thanks! The problem now is do I live with a workaround a premium handset shouldn't really need or do I dig my heels in and return it? Maybe I'll live with it for a couple of days and see how I feel.
You should feel happy with a purchase this expensive - if it's not for you bigger and better Xperia models are due in the Summer, although that may be too long to wait for you.
I was a bit worried about these buttons when I got my SXS and for the first couple of days it was a hit or miss situation. However over the few days I've had the phone it has got better and better and I would put the hit - miss ratio at about 99 - 1 . Of course there are thos who will not be satisfied with any thing less than a 100% hit.
My biggest concern with the virtual buttons and swiping upwards is the fact that when you're in a call, the button for hanging up is in very close range to the virtual buttons and you might accidentally hang up on people when trying to access the home button etc. Any workaround for this?
I don't think you need worry about the buttons. I've lived with the phone for a couple of weeks now and they're really not a problem after a couple of days. I seem to get them first time every time now. Don't need to use the "slide" technique either. I really love this phone
In addition - I prefer them to my wife's Galaxy SII. Those buttons are much too large and I often hit the back button by mistake - especially when picking the phone up.
