Xperia rootingAround three weeks ago we reported that Simon Walker, the Head of the Developer Program for Sony Ericsson, said he was going to look closer at the issues surrounding rooting. At the time he offered a glimmer of light to Sony Ericsson Xperia fans, by saying that he was in favour of rooting “if we do it right”.

He has just followed this up with another tweet saying that he has had “very constructive dialogue with respected & influential people” inside Sony Ericsson. Whilst this is nothing material, hopefully it highlights that the momentum is on the pro-side of rooting. Sony Ericsson’s Android handsets have seen the bootloader remain intact, despite the sterling efforts of those at xda-developers. This news gives us hope that at some point down the line we may see the restrictions ease a little.

At the point where they actually do something, we don’t even need cracked bootloader anymore. In the link above show that the the XDA devs for mini pro actually managed to insert custom driver to the phone ( in this case a multi touch driver) they are now currently are writing the driver.
