Xperia arc suffers audio sync, freezing issues when video recording in HD

Xperia arcThe Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is one of the best imaging phone devices on the market right now thanks to its 8.1MP Exmor R camera sensor. We’ve been impressed by both the quality and speed of photos taken across a number of conditions, unfortunately we cannot extend the same praise to its video recording efforts.

After numerous tests and trying various memory cards of different speeds, there seems to be consistent problems whether it be stuttering/freezing and even audio sync problems. The problem is most apparent when video recording in 720p HD. We know that SE is aware of this problem and many users are complaining judging by this thread. The Xperia arc is being marketed for its image quality so the quicker this gets fixed the better.

    will to be honest, glad that the US version is a little late, now i want to see how SE jumps to fix this issue… when we had the low volume issue in the x10i it took 6 months to fix it… and still exsist in the 1.6 at&t version even a year after…. How soon SE will find a solution. but i’ll tell what is different this so far, SE does admit that they are aware of the issue and they are working on it… it took them 4 months to admite the low volume issue in the x10…

    Well dear i have an x10 with 2.1 and still i dont feel the volume issue is resolved…. Its still low when you get out of the house… I cant hear the other person in the mall or on street or in front of a barking dog… Just hope that the arc has a better volume, i hope i dont get disappointed this time round!!!!

  • well in all honesty. I had the same problem on my ARC. After I did a software update, the issue seems to have been resolved. This is the UK update. I had my ARC exchanged anyway due to other issues. But again, when I did a software update on the 2nd ARC, the issue again was resolved. So try the update if your in the UK. But the camera does have a lag in certain modes such as scene recognition etc..

    hey all u guys who have already got the arc, can you please comment on the volume level of the arc compared to x10 and iphone4????? I mean i just wana know about its volume level so that i can make a decision on whether or not to buy it!!!! Thanks

  • of course. having owned an x10, i know how much we suffered in regards to low in call volume. But with the ARC, the volume is perfect. I got used to the x10 volume but once I start using the ARC, I realised how badly the x10 suffers from this. Plus I am on orange and have HD voice calling so its even better. But the in call volume is definitely not an issue on the ARC. Hope that helps :)

  • Well, I don’t know what to say or suggest. Sony Ericsson is clearly aware of this issue and are hopefully working on a fix asap. Try resetting your phone to factory resetting and doing the update again if necessary.

    Yeaap! been xperiecing same even when syncing contacts mails and conatcts or chatting over facebook and gmail…pleaaaaaase fix this

    Can’t stop laughing.

    People called the N8 v/s Arc video a hoax. For them it was easier to just believe this company’s tall, and apparently false claims v/s the real life performance the N8 has displayed for over a year.

    just fitted a class 6 extreme speed mem card, hd recording issues have now gone all HD test videos have been 10 to 20 min long with no freezing or sound issues so far fingers crossed…….

    hi, did u try on class 6 or class 10 memory cards?
    I got the same phone and having the same freezing and audio sync problem, don’t want to waste money on class 10 cards if it doesn’t help.

    Im on my third arc in 35 days it just keeps crashing and wont reboot any ideas?????
    and its not due to downloading apps as i havent done that

    my sony arc has frozen twice now, when i take it out my bag i can see the screen get messages and phone calls but i can not open the phone to see or answer, any help please

    hi, i did update my s/w after reading ur blog n u no it worked :) i m in UK too and my HD video is working absolutely fine thanx to u :)

    So it’s not just mine! I’m gutted as i looked forward to getting my phone for ages and raved about picture quality in video but then noticed sound sync problem after 5 seconds of recording, picture freezes for split second then goes out of sync!!! Sort it out Sony

    Not been experiencing any video recording issues. In fact have been thoroughly impressed with video recording performance. 
    However user interface and performance has been dipping over a period of time… I think will do a factory reset to see whether its a software bug

    I have the arc with the same problem and I did everything to make it normal again. damn irritating. Sometimes it just doesn’t want to respond to anything. I already have the intention of getting a new phone…

    my arc troubles only when i opened galery and after that it becomes hot and screen turned off…when i press menu key only lights of keys turned on and nothing is showing on the screen…i updated my fone for sometime this problem has been resolved but from 4 to 5 days still it make me sick of this thing…i have to turn it off by removing tha battery and then when i put the battery back and restart my fone after welcome screen it again goes in blank screen mode…what should i do
