Pink acro HDThe Sony Ericsson Xperia acro was one of the best-selling Japanese devices in 2011. Both NTT DoCoMo and KDDI carried the device and whilst the former announced last week that it will carry the GSM version (SO-03D) of its successor, the Xperia acro HD, there was no word from KDDI. However, KDDI has now followed suit and announced the CDMA version of the Xperia acro HD (IS12S).

There are no differences between devices (apart from network compatibility). As a quick reminder, the acro HD includes a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 4.3-inch HD resolution display (720 x 1280 pixels), 12.1MP Exmor R camera sensor, 16GB of internal storage (plus microSD support), 1840mAh battery and HDMI. It also has Japanese specific features such as infrared port, NFC mobile wallet and TV tuner. This handset will also be waterproof to depths of 1m. It will release on KDDI in mid-March 2012, roughly at the same time as the NTT DoCoMo version.

Damnit. Why does AU get the cooler looking White/Black one… I don’t want to leave Docomo, so I’m stuck with the all black one I guess. Blah.

Why does it have Sony Erisson Logo on it still?

If that is released  with “Sony Ericsson” on the front, I am going to try to get hold of the white version, as long as there is some way of getting it to work in UK.  Not that keen on “Sony” logo, just seems like a bit of a generic gadget rather than a phone!

I don’t get why they keep having those capacitive buttons -why not just use the screen as the Google nexus, it’d free up much of the front…

Because it’s still Sony Ericsson in Japan.

This is a CDMA phone, so good luck getting it to work in the UK, when it doesn’t even have a SIM card slot…

    no, they have UIM/SIM slots.

Calling them CDMA phones and GSM phones in the article is a little misleading since people tend to equate “CDMA” to USA’s CDMA networks and GSM to 2G GSM rather than to CDMA2000 and W-CDMA (and all the boring carrier specific stuff and variations of technology)

That being said, you still cannot effectively use it in the UK or any other 3G network other than AU’s WIN network.
