The rumoured Sony (Ericsson) MT27i handset, codenamed Pepper, has appeared in the NenaMark benchmark. We expect this handset will run the ST-Ericsson U8500 chipset as that is what our sources and previous evidence have pointed to. NenaMark also confirms this, with the GPU listed as “ARM Mali-400 MP.” This is the GPU used in ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor family of chipsets (U5500, U8500 and U9500).
The only pieces of information revealed in the benchmark is a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and Android 2.3.7 operating system. This ties in with what we have heard i.e. the MT27i will be the successor to the Xperia neo V and have a 1GHz dual-core chipset, 3.7-inch (480 x 854) display, 5MP camera and a sealed battery. We expect a reveal at the MWC tradeshow in Barcelona next month.
