The European Commission has approved Sony’s plan to take full ownership of the Sony Ericsson joint venture, after it bought Ericsson’s stake for €1.05 billion in October 2011. The transaction has always been subject to regulatory approval and this removes a major obstacle. It won’t be too much longer now before we see the first ‘Sony’ branded Xperia smartphone.
