Xperia acro SIn addition to the Xperia go, Sony Mobile has announced another water resistant phone this morning, the Xperia acro S (LT26w). This is a higher-end waterproof smartphone destined to be released globally during the third quarter. This is interesting as the ‘Xperia acro’ brand has only previously been used for its high-end waterproof phones in Japan. We imagine that Sony Mobile will use this brand for all of its global waterproof phones in the future.

The Xperia acro S has P55 and IP57 ratings for dust/water resistance. This means it is protected against “dust-limited to ingress (no harmful deposits) and the effects of water immersion between 15 cm and 1 m for 30 minutes.”

In terms of specifications, the Xperia acro S will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 chipset with 1.5GHz dual-core processor and Adreno 220 GPU. There will also be a 4.3-inch (720 x 1280) scratch resistant mineral glass display supporting 10 finger multitouch, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage (11GB user accessible) and microSD memory card support.

It will have a 12.1MP rear camera capable of 1080p video recording and a 1.3MP rear camera capable of 720p video chat. The Xperia acro S has a 1910mAh embedded battery that should be good for 6 hours 40 mins of GSM talk time according to Sony. Other features include HDMI, NFC and PlayStation Certification.

The phone will be available in three colours (black, white and pink) and will launch globally with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich during Q3 2012.

  • Hope this phone will release in Malaysia :(

  • This isn’t the Hayabusa right? That’s the GX.

  • JM Penas

A bit disappointed about the S3 core but other than that, I’m liking this more than the XS :)

  • rafi

its ok about duo core s3 as long sony provide good way to optinise the core to fully pontential

  • Michael

these specs all sound nice, especially the waterproof part and the microsd slot. But Sony, are you kidding me?? A Snapdragon S3?? This one was released more than a year ago and will be more than old news and not competitive in the third quarter of 2012. Why can’t it be an S4?
Also interesting is that the phone is protected against immersion in water betweeen 15cm and 1m. So, what happens if I drop the phone in water with a depth of 10 cm? Will it be broken?! This can’t be right.

  • Ambroos

The international GX will launch later. The special thing aobut this phone is that it is waterproof, it’s not about specs. This is just the Acro HD in an international version. It’s not the Hayabusa either.

  • W1dz

Yessssss!!!!! AT last!!! All this waiting for a high end waterproof phone finally pays of!

  • Holy mother of Sony….

  • Michael

so Hayabusa is not the GX? When will they announce it? What then is Mint? Why can’t they release a phone like the GX which is also waterproof? I’m really tempted by this feature, don’t know why, but it makes the phone appear stronger.

  • Harry

    More images are here:

  • Ambroos

Well yeah the GX is the Hayabusa, or more or less. It’ll be released in a slightly modified version later this year for international markets.

  • Would have been better if it’s on-screen button like the GX and SX.

  • If they release S4 for this phone nobody is going to buy Xperia S.

  • Nirujan Gunathasan

Nope.. Acro S must be Haybusa. It makes scene. Olive must be Xperia Go and Haybusa must be Acro S.

  • AlexBurnout

    Xperia acro S rocks

  • DragonClaw

Yes. I think you are correct. What you say perfectly matches with:

But the Xperia Go will cost more than the Xperia U. I think Xperia U has better specs, with a higher resolution. But then, Go has some cool features, so you never know.

  • Ambroos

You’re wrong. That leaked roadmap isn’t completely correct AT ALL you know. The Xperia Acro S was codenamed Hayate. The GX is Hayabusa.

  • Michael

slightly modified could me it’s also waterproof?

  • paul4id

That would be waste of screen-space!

  • lovebmw

i am now officially confused, what is what!

  • zzz

the official website says that it will release in gingerbread..not ics

  • You have a point there.., how about replacing those buttons with extra screen space. XD

  • thankyu..informative..
Great post!.. keep the posts coming & i will keep reading them.
thank for help them. Great blog dude! I just linked to this post on my
    Delicious. Keep it up!

  • hamboy

Sony has stepped their game up to another level.

  • Playing a game; Accidentally hit the HOME button (–_–).. f*ck :D

  • THIS is the way to make variants of a phone. Not looking forward to the Galaxy SIII HD Plus Two

  • Check out the amazing water proofing of Xperia acro S in this video from 5:30min onwards!

  • So should I wait for the
    1) Xperia GX (have to bet on assuming there is a intl release) OR
    2) Xperia Ion (assuming it does comes to Singapore)
    3) Xperia Acro S (again assuming if it does comes to Singapore)
Any advises? I don’t mind waiting further for the Hayabusa (Xperia GX) as it is know to have better specs but not much known about the water proofing.

  • Krizer

Sony,If you gonna release Xperia acro S after Xperia S why don’t just sell only Acro S and give up on XS. It makes me wanna sell XS and buy Acro S indtead. Japanese phone spec is what I always dream of.

So…i know you read this Sony Mobile!…Open Source means OPEN!….if your
devs are too lazy…let the XDA Community do the works!….so spread the
word people…BOYCOT SONY MOBILE PHONE FROM NOW!…if they not relesase the
    ICS Source For Xperia Play….!!!

  • hashsa,

lol Xperia S rapped in a plastic to make a waterproof mobile. Sony =Shit. I bought your Xperia S and its been so many months and no ICS, not gonna buy any fukin sony mobile now just ordered S3 and its really a Monster. Shitty Sony Do some work.

  • TheManSpirit

Not at all. My current E72 handset is on its deathbed, so I’ve decided the XS will be the one for me. Much as I like the XaS features like IP55/IP57 certification, and 1910mA battery. I prefer the styling of the XS, though I do wish the illuminated transparent strip worked like it does on the XP. But what’s with the XaS’ quoted standby times? Even the quoted talk time and music listening times are down, so what advantage is the larger battery?

  • garo

when will sony xperia acro s release ?

  • William Houser

I’m thinking this might be the mint off of sonys leaked roadmap since its a q3 release and is a little more than the hyabusa which is the GX. Given all the goodies and the price range seems like a good guestimate.

  • no one

first: what would u do with S4? I think S3 is more than enough.
second: 15cm to 1m the phone resists for 30mins, for less than 15cm(10cm) it would resist for more than 30 mins under water.
third: you are a fool, my advise to u: “think then talk!”

  • S3 is good and more than enough even HTC release One S with s3

  • Jake

Actually we cant deny that S4 is better .
Not only the processor power , the vital function of S4 is the heat dissipation and power efficiency .
Less heat and longer battery life is the weakness of smartphone nowadays .

Yes , S3 is enough , but S4 is welcomed also . You put too much “you think” inside ur opinion . And you are the person who doesnt think and at the same time with those childish rude action . We Sony fan doesnt need fanboism like you who are same with some fruit company . Blindly suport even the weak point of certain product .

We know our weakness and our strength . I would say that S3 is enough . WIthout ” more than ” infront of it . And ” what would you do with S4″ , ur speech is like saying S4 has no improvement at all which arent true .

Putting a S3 is ok/fine . But having a S4 inside is better/excellent . Not “useless” / “worst” idea which appeared between ur sentence .

  • deny
  • This aint no better than Xperia S, only different looking with bigger battery and water proof, thats all, SAme specs as XPS so….

  • Vox_nightshade

    Soon you’ll be mine!

  • goldenblls

Is it true this could be shipping in the next week or so?  I hope so.

  • Sa Fa

I said s3 is enough. it is obvious that s4 is better.
Read carefully, think then talk(as you are defender of Sony.)
SONY doesn’t need you defend. She is a Giant.

  • Adsasda

i will. i dont like the way it looks

  • Hey, hi ! I am planning to buy a XPERIA bt confused between Ion & Acro S ! Suggest me the best one please.

  • StupidPolice

    No Ant+?

  • Yes this is the definitely the phone I will be looking to buy:

  • szurnia82

Hmmmmm,,, I’m really enjoy it with Xperia acro S that I have. Thanks Xperia.
