AT&T Xperia ionFollowing on from the Sony Xperia ion launch party that we reported on earlier today, Sony has now confirmed the United States release details. The Xperia ion (LT28at) will land exclusively on AT&T on 24 June for an upfront cost of $99.99 along with a two-year contract.

The two-year wireless agreement requires both a voice (min $39.99/mo) and data plan ($20/mo). Seems pretty steep to us when you consider the lifetime contract cost. The handset will be compatible with AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

As many of you already know, the Sony Xperia ion has a 4.55-inch (720 x 1280) display and comes with a 1.5Ghz dual-core S3 Snapdragon chipset (MSM8260), 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot. Other features include a 12.1MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, HDMI, NFC and a 1900mAh battery.

  • Great Sony!!!
    Make.believe | like.no.other

  • you dont say?! =.= Xperia ION is seriously late to the party now =.=

  • Overpriced for those specs. What a fail

  • HALLELUYA!!!!! THANK YOU SONY..and ABOUT DAMN TIME!

  • Rene

I will be picking it up and sending my XPS in for repair (yellow tint on screen)

  • NOW THE QUESTION IS WILL IT HAVE ICS OR GINGERBREAD?..:s

  • Omg that’s practically free considering it’s like a $700 phone! I love it :D

  • It’s gonna launch with GB unfortunately, big mistake on Sony’s part I think. But it’s definitely gonna get the ICS upgrade soon after it’s released.

  • itchy

WHEN IS IT COMING TO SINGAPORE!!! OMG I CAN’T WAIT!!

  • Ben

It has practically the same specs as the Samsung Galaxy S3
    http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I747MBBATT-specs
    and is $100 cheaper.

  • Those are like top of the line specs. What more do you want? I’m sure if it was launching with ICS everyone would be all over this phone. Just because it has GB all of a sudden the specs suck.

why an S3 after all this time….we may never know. Seriously with the amount of time they spent before release they could have put an S4 in there. I’m sure it still has similar standards for implementation

  • Chemiclus

I’ve been waiting so long…..but now they just announcing these other products, and it makes a no brainer suddenly a hard decision for me…….I feel like an Apple consumer :P

  • FRKD

Finally! been waiting for sooo long!

  • BobbyClark

Are you serious? The ION has a Snapdragon S3 processor, last gen’s processor, the same one in the HTC Sensation. It’s good for most tasks, but shouldn’t be compared with the quad core Exynos.

  • Samuel Serafim

    FOOOODDAAAA
    Amazing phone.

  • InspectorGadget80

Cant wait to get mine! Payday next week right after i pay this month bill.

  • jj

I’ll wait and see if the Rogers one come with the “Sony” Logo, hate AT&T brading!!!

  • FRKD

no it’s not….. most of Xperia single core phones perform like a dual core, and the dual core will be more powerful than most dual cores….. the external engineering is outstanding (unlike the crappy plastic “S3”) with 12 megapixel camera and fast capture….

  • jeson

Seriously, is CPU the only deciding factor to buy a phone?? Where is the world heading to? :P
