New Sony Tablet (SGPT1211) passes through FCC; Tablet S successor? [Update]

Sony is working on a next-generation tablet device, judging by some documents that have recently passed through the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in the United States. Very little is given away, but the label info has been published which clearly shows that this is a “Tablet Device” and will carry model number SGPT1211.

Whether this is the successor to the Sony Tablet S Android slate remains to be seen, although we would be very surprised if Sony didn’t have a next-gen tablet on the table. Who knows, Sony may even be working on a Windows tablet? We’ll bring you more information as we have it.

Update: Another Sony tablet with model number SGPT1311 has also passed through the FCC.

Most likely Android and a successor to Tablet S which model name was SGPT111 and SGPT112 .

I just hope its better than the S and P! They were to be honest disgraceful. I don’t think they sold many according to my local Sony store. Most stores didn’t even stock them as the demand was not there. Hopefully this time they get/got it right and it is a viable competitor to the samsung tablets and the new Ipad of which one I have. Since the android tablet I wanted wasn’t available. Good luck Sony. Please make it a good one

From what little I know of the Sony Tablets S & P, they were designed by the VAIO team. While they were a fun experiment, they haven’t exactly set the world on fire.

Give me an Xperia tablet running Jellybean, 7 & 10 inches, please! Can you imagime it? Beautiful industrial design, 1080p screen, with micro USB charger & HDMI out.

Np more funky foldover designs — people just aren’t interested.

I agree with that. I had a Tablet S for a few months and I really tried my best living with it. I just couldn’t. Switched to an iPad and it’s awesome. Apple might not be my favorite electronics company (because Sony is -_-) but they sure do know how to built a tablet. Yes, the OS is very restrictive but for tablet purposes, it just does everything you need it to do, and does it flawlessly. Not to mention that the battery life is seriously long compared to a tablet S.

Interestingly I have both a Tablet S and an iPad 2. The iPad doesn’t really get a look in at home. No remote control, no miniapps, no Flash for browsing websites, and it gets uncomfortable after using it for about 20 mins. Add into that iOS looks like a kids toy, and I have had more problems with stuff working on the iPad than I have on the Sony.

thanks your comment. i wanted to buy a tablet s but after playing with one and checking reviews online, I was not satisfied. I would have bought it because Sony is also my favourite brand but they just can’t get it right in every department. I jailbroke my new ipad so I could do more with it but then restored it to how it should be and it does work flawlessly. The games, most the apps, it really does do just about anything you’d want to do on a tablet. As far as flash goes, many people are complaining, there are many ways round it and one is also in the works unofficially. I hardly use the flash on my Xperia S so don’t deem it to be totally necessary. of course it’s a good thing to have but we will be without once jellybean arrives so might as well get used to it. The screen on the IPad is just as amazing as the screen on my Xperia S. I really can’t fault both the devices. But if Sony gets this right. I’m in.
