Sony has finally given a solid release date for the launch of PlayStation Mobile. The new PlayStation Store for PlayStation Mobile will be launching two weeks today on Wednesday 3 October. It will initially be available in nine countries including Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia with more to follow.

As we already know, PSone Classic content will be scrapped in favour of “PlayStation-like content to a variety of popular mobile devices”. Sony says there will be around 30 new titles at launch from both first and third-party developers at prices between 50 yen (£0.39, €0.49, $0.64) and 850 yen (£6.68, €8.31, $10.84).

Sony also announced that a couple of additional manufacturers (Fujitsu and Sharp) have joined the PlayStation Certified license program. Whilst they may not be strong in the west, both companies have significant market share in Japan. These two manufacturers join the likes of Asus, Wikipad and HTC who are already on the list.

Developers working on PlayStation Mobile will be glad to hear that the Software Development Kit (SDK) will be available in November starting in 11 countries and regions including Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Developers will have to pay US$99 annually for the license agreement.

As things stand, there are a range of PlayStation Certified devices including the following: Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion, Xperia acro S, Xperia TX, Xperia T and Xperia V. Japanese handsets include the Xperia acro, Xperia acro HD, Xperia SX and Xperia GX. In terms of tablets, we have the Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P and new Xperia Tablet S. HTC’s One series of smartphones (HTC One™ X, HTC One™ S, and HTC One™ V) are also PlayStation Certified.

  • What about xperia p/u/sola they also should get it….. if arc can get it cant they?

Just NOW I understood what is this PS Mobile all about. Sony wants to make a digital gaming wave based on its expertise with gaming and PlayStation on every hardware possible and accelerate the PlayStation and PSN even more. I always thought that ps games should be Sony devices exclusive but if developers see the PS Mobile as a wide accessed digital platform and if Sony can persuade professional gaming developers to make content on PS Mobile as all the content will be compatible with VITA too they’ll make a bridge between casual and professional gaming. Guys this can be truly fantastic

  • Funny, the arc will have more neo which has the same hardware will not.
Sony faltered ugly to me eh.

Sony has learned hard from their PS3 launch fail, the only new that is encouraging here for me, is the association between Sony and Sold Date Release for Anything.

Thats good and all but…Why no info on this as yet…. latest info relating to this was AOSP in AUGUST (That technically didn’t touch base on it) and before that was JULY its September!!…

  • T Dogg

These products won’t get PS Mobile as these products run on a processor not designed for gaming. The products need to at least have a Snapdragon I believe.

    What about Sony Xperia P

  • If im correct the xperia u has a snapdragon chipset

  • Adrian

    More fragmentation for Android… Yay!

  • Avery Navas

So great… can’t wait to see what happens…

  • sony are a little bit behind. NO PSN on android, but we have Xbox live, NO smartglass alternative, NO remoteplay. no controlling PS3 with smartphone. android is still without a gaming network, even IOS has that!, when will PSN and PS home be on android?

  • I don’t understand one thing about Sony. What’s with the country limitation on the PlayStation Store/Mobile ?! Why not release it worldwide?

  • rickiking

This is great. I have two playstation certified units.

couldn’t have put it any better myself! well said bro. Definitive dates makes Sony look good again. Hope they keep it up

  • mrk

i hope they put not only PS One games but also PSP games. i think its CPU/GPU can handle it.

  • no you are not correct

  • fragmentation?… is a neutral framework… any system without modification can run games from ps mobile… and that means any game you buy for your android, you can play it in your ps3, and in your vita and in any other ps certified device… and maybe in the future in a vaio product etc etc

  • well, the arc is a flagship device…

  • Lord Bagul

Holy shit! Sony’s fucking idiot. vita os is awesome and if you want to win this game just make the goddamn PlayStation Phone.

  • ddsPTY

    why no vita?

Am I the only one who is actually looking forward to this?
Mine still says “????” or sometime from September onwards the store will open.
Glad it’s soon because I’m curious how it will be and what they will have available.

Also, Fujitsu and Sharp being on board is a big deal domestically.
Sharp is probably one of the most dominant android makers domestically (Not more dominant than Samsung though). It’s debatable from quarter to quarter who was stronger Sharp or Sony Ericsson though.
