Sony Mobile’s Box partnership extended into 2013

Around a year ago, Sony announced that it was partnering with cloud specialists Box to offer 50GB of cloud storage for life to Sony Xperia owners. The offer was due to expire at the end of 2012, but Sony Mobile has now confirmed that it will be extending the offer until 31st December 2013.

The offer is open to those with any Sony Xperia smartphone (except the X10 mini and X10 mini pro) and Sony tablet owners. We imagine most have already taken up this offer, but it serves as a reminder to those who may have recently bought a new Xperia handset. All you need to do is to download the Box app from the Play Store and you will automatically get 50GB of storage added to your account.

so after 2013 we will not have 50 Gb on or what happens then?

  • no! it´s just that new xperia owners can´t download that app after 2013

  • rsvmille

follow the link on google play for info, you have it for life

  • Samuel Serafim

lol Sony hates X10 mini owners kkkkk

  • rgsoo1

…and if you lose your Xperia phone and switch to a non-Xperia phone what is the status of your free Box storage?

  • jjghj

Why not to the X10 mini and X10 mini pro? Seems weird just those 2 phones…

  • soraandrie

the first statement was implied was at the end 2012 box offer for 50 Gb will over .. and now they extend into 2013 .. yeah so cool

  • BlaZe

u get 50gb for ur account … so even if u lose ur ph 50gb is still thr :)

  • APai

I think you have not got it clear on that point. you can download box app with 5gb standard storage for free at any point of time. Sony Xperia phone owners get the free 50gb instead.

after 2013, the offer ends and only standard 5gb storage applies as with everyone.

maybe sony pays box some amount of money per device, and since x10 is a very old device, it would not make sense supporting it now.

  • APai

you get to keep it for life.

  • APai

dude, x10 is 2 years 9 months old now. I do not think any manufacturer would support a device that long.

  • dude, those two phones runs on android 2.1 and has limited ram and runs on slow specs. No reason why Sony (Ericsson) stopped supporting them after they released the new 2011 Xperia.

Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about this promotion

  • TjaldidTjaldid

what about PlayMemories and Gaikai it’s strange that they dont have their own service to provide this.

  • enzo2shy

except Apple, the iPhone 3GS has 3 and a half years and it’s still supported …

  • APai

yes, and they’d better support their phones! iphone users are the most taxed people! need a $2 cable ? pls pay 20! an unsubsidized iphone costs $850 (in much of the world, and worse in places like India where it costs like $1200) a similar class xperia T is priced around $460 on ebay. so, hell yeah! they’d better support the older devices!

How to Use Xperia Neo L ????

I hope people do know that the catch with these free BOX accounts (including this promotion) is that the file limit is 100mb, right? Unlike the paid membership, which has a file limit of 2gb. This means that you can back up 50 gigs of documents, pictures, music and short home videos. And we all know that most people would rather find 50 gigs useful when it comes to backing up and watching via-cloud movies. At lest that’s what I’m interested in since I ain’t got 50 gigs of pics and documents, and for that Google Drive is way better and more than enough.
