Not true. Sony Mobile is the most outward oriented Japan based mobile phone maker. Ever seen an Aquos Phone, Arrows Phone or a Regza Phone in the west? Unlikely. But, you can buy an Xperia anywhere in the world just like you can buy it on NTT Docomo.

There’s nothing wrong with Sony Mobile having strong ties with Japanese carriers, on contrary, that pushes Sony harder to develop the best products, given that Japanese consumers are among the most demanding ones.

The pre-order prices are always ridiculous. I’m sure it’ll drop quite a bit. I think it’ll probably end up at around $500-$600 for the model with the most memory. Hopefully…

The retailer obviously sets a (very) high price so that they do not sell at an accidental discount. Of course the actual price will be lower than that.

Verkkokauppa.com tends to put an expensive price tag to unconfirmed items, thus that is not likely to stay. The reason behind it is that if people should order it right away and the tag is put too low, the retailer is bound to sell the item to those people for that price.

For example, Xperia Z phone was first priced as 799,90€, but is now “only” 729,90€ for pre-order.
