Xperia ZL unboxingThe Sony Xperia ZL (C650X) is due to launch imminently in select regions around the world. The sibling to the Xperia Z eschews a water-resistant chassis for a slightly smaller form-factor and includes a dedicated camera button and IR blaster. Other than that the specs are largely the same as the Xperia Z.

Pocketnow managed to get hold of what we assume is the retail version of the Xperia ZL. It looks like the site was sent a European SKU judging by the charger in the box. You don’t seem to get anything too exciting in the retail packaging, just the usual charger, headset and documentation. You can check out the video below.

Can’t wait to get the LTE version (c6506) in the US. It’s been listed as ‘coming soon’ on Sony website for a while :( International HSPA version (c6502) with AT&T and Tmobile 3G is going for $690 on ebay. Hopefully LTE version in the US would cost a little less :D

  • Try here:
    much cheaper

It’s interesting to see that he was unboxing Indonesian ZL. And it’s uninteresting to see that it comes with next to nothing. :(

I’m more than sure that the next flagship is gonna be the Xperia X

  • This shall be in my pocket.

How about Xperia TX jb update?????!!!

  • feres13

I Don’t get that, why both a Z and a ZL, why not just one flagship, sony? It’s confusing for the consumer, just make an Xperia Z with smaller bezels and a bigger LED notification light. One of the reasons samsung is winning is because they’re selling the same phone across as many carriers as possible.

I agree that they should focus on fewer flagships. But in this case it’s not really confusing for the consumer, because only one phone will be available in each market.

How about not spamming off topic

  • Bliss

And the usual morons will start calling it XX

  • feres13

Yeah but what if someone wants the Z and only gets the ZL (that’s the case in the US)

Then buy it online. And in what way is that confusing? I would say having different chipsets in the same phone model, like samsung, is confusing. Most consumers aren’t as interested as you and I, so they won’t even know about phones only available in other countries.

  • feres13

Sony is promoting the water proofing of the xperia Z, a consumer walks into the store and gets the ZL because they look alot alike and it was the only one of the two available, he takes it with him in the pool and guess what? His phone is dead.
Consumers won’t care if a phone has the S4 or the exynos or the S4 pro, if they get a GS3, they know what they’re getting, it’s the same design with the same features and any accessories will work on it.

  • Fraulein

They don’t really look any more alike than any other 5 inch smartphone, except brandwise. And as I said before, a person who could make this mistake won’t see any of the promotions about Z anyway because they’re not shown in his country. Chipset matters for some prosumers, and online stores aren’t always clear about this information.
