Was Sony planning an alternative speaker design for the Xperia Z?

in Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

Xperia Z speakerHave a look at the render of the Xperia Z below and tell us if you notice anything different. The title of the post gives it away, but what you can see is a different type of speaker design compared with the one that has hit retail.

The picture comes from an official Sony Mobile source, so it looks like at some point this is the design that may have been considered. The speaker in the render has small speaker holes instead of the vertical line used in the retail model. Maybe, Sony wasn’t able to make the phone water resistant with speaker holes (it sounds highly plausible), which is why they went for the line design. Regardless of that, it looks pretty cool with the speaker holes. Which design do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below.

The line design looks more like the volume buttons, so I think the line is better

  • Syed

Thumbs up if u love this new design :D fits perfectly in ears

  • paZZZ

you din’t get it right, did you? The headset isn’t meaned, it’s the speaker IN the phone. It’s placed under the volume buttons, you see? It’s different to the actual design… ;)

  • paZZZ

Both are nice, but i think the released design fits better to the whole thing. However, it’s beautiful :)

Maybe it wouldn’t have been as loud with the holes vs a slit?

  • roeshak

Looks nicer but it looks like another victim of the waterproofing.

wish they put it in other part of the phone for example at the back or in the bottom side so that when you hold it you wont block the speaker and muffled the sound..and wish you could make it louder

  • afzal

Chill dude… When the times come.. There will be an update to fix it. Its just a software issue not a hardware error.

The hole design looks like iPhone5 and it’s cheap.

  • Ahmad

It is not that xperia z is the king for its built quality but matter of sorrow is that sony uses tft display in xz which is sharper and there is no dout but it has horrible vewing angles.we cant expect from sony to have display like.they shuld have used an ips lcd like iphon 5.this is the only lac in the xz.hope that sony will use best display with best vewing angles and color contrast in there next flagship.device.

“Maybe, Sony wasn’t able to make the phone water resistant with speaker holes……”

Are you kidding me?! The speaker isn’t waterproof anyway, dunk the phone under water and the loudspeaker for breaks until it dries out two days later

  • Jim Paget

lol. Yeah, I was wondering about that! How do you think the waterproofing feature holds up against all the ports and sockets? I mean, the screen, sure, but the USB and power charging slots? Wouldn’t like to risk being connected to the mains source while in the shower, that’s for sure! lol. I may laugh about stuff like this, but in all fairness though, personally, I really liked this Tablet! In fact, my only initial gripe is that with tablets in general, is you have to be much more careful about protecting the screen. But thankfully I managed to get around this pretty well by finding a decent case for it that has a strong lightweight lid, which totally solved the problem! Was pretty darn cheap too (I think it cost me less than 10 bucks on Amazon). One thing I really love about this case even more is that the one I found came built in with a magnetic sleep sensor, which automatically turns the tablet on and off INSTANTLY (no seconds to wait like on my old Laptop). Only one case I have found so far that do this feature called the “G-Hub” case (stands for gadget hub, apparently!) If anyone was curious, here’s the link to it… http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CFUYEGE/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers Totally made my Tablet the best darned portable computer I have ever owned!
