NTT DoCoMo’s Xperia GX and Xperia SX handsets get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

in Android, Firmware, Xperia - Japan Models

heroJapanese users running either the Sony Xperia GX (SO-04D) or Xperia SX (SO-05D) will be glad to hear that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is now available. The update is rolling out as we speak and updates the firmware version from build number 7.0.D.1.137 (Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich) to 9.1.C.0.475 (Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean).

Additions include “Experience flow” themes, POBox Touch 5.4 character input (the width of the keyboard can also be adjusted), folder management in the app tray, seven home screens in the launcher, new features added to camera UI and new swipe-up Jelly Bean lock-screen. Sony has handily detailed the full list of changes on this website, we wish it would do something similar for western users when major new updates arrive.

  • Herman

Hey, we live in a free country with freedom of speech!
    … Nah, you’re right. He’s just drunk.

  • Yonathan Winata

Me too. It’s like Xperia Ray Successor. :(

  • Jonfensu

    GX = TX

  • dereknobuyuki

I only really care about being able to use Google Now on a device with constant data

but this update brings a lot of improvements in a lot of areas including Project Butter to improve responsiveness, new pull down menu area, new app switcher, new developer options, new camera options, etc.

Everything is working well so far.

  • Jobs

Imported it from Japan. Doesn’t support the local 4G bands though :(

Still, awesomest phone I’ve ever had

  • khalis

I’ve the Xperia GX importated from Japon.

I use it in France, it works as well. I got yesterday the update to 4.1.2.

My phone rocks more than before, thanks Ntt DOCOMO!!! ^_^

Just one thing, I did not get “Stamina Mode”. :(

    Anyway good job Sony. :)

finally? for god’s sake! my SX is dying for a JB update! everything works fine in the latest JB update, except that the DoCoMo version lacks ‘STAMINIA MODE’ and DoCoMo’s own ‘eco Mode’ is not available in German’s Play Market. Scheisse!

  • Melfes Wired

it is Ray successor! its been called Ray 2 when it is still under design. and Ray 3, also One Shit 3, is coming next year with lot similarities from One Shit.

  • Melfes Wired

it allows u to choose between Google Now or DoCoMo’s own app. but i never used any of these.

  • Melfes Wired

That is totally normal. DoCoMo has its own energy saving app so it simply shields sony’s.

  • dereknobuyuki

You have a choice what apps to use. You can tell it to always use Google Search, for example, when you swipe up from the home button.

  • Melfes Wired

yeah, i know that. but i barely use this kind of app…

  • Melfes Wired

really, dont u think that you’v been watched every day?

  • Ihkru

    ?RE????? /system/vendor/overlay??com.sonyerricsson.conversations-res.apk?????/system/app??Conversations.apk????????????

  • Niko Freiher

there will be an update to 4.3 or even 4.4??
