Xperia Z Ultra spotted with infra-red sensor

in Xperia Z Ultra

Xperia Z Ultra IR RemoteThe Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a very impressive spec list including the Snapdragon 800 chipset and 6.44-inch Full HD Triluminos display. However, if there’s a couple of extra features we would have liked it would have been a better camera (with LED flash) and infra-red sensor. We have found the IR Remote feature to be very useful in devices such as the Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia ZL.

Judging by the following picture, which Sony Mobile published on its Facebook page, it looks like Sony was considering the inclusion of an infra-red sensor in the Xperia Z Ultra. It shows the white handset with the IR sensor next to the camera lens. Obviously, this feature didn’t make it to the final spec sheet, which is a shame. Let’s hope it does make it to the upcoming Honami flagship.

  • Arokhantos

If their gonna be a xperia z ultra with IR sensor then i’m defiantly buying it.

  • Haidar Alamir

this looks more like mysterious thing found on the xperia homani next to its camera too.
maybe xenon flash? or somthing else

  • Nils
  • Herman

I seriously hope that isn’t actually an Infrared port.
It’s a weird place to put it anyway.

If the Honami wouldn’t come with a xenon (-like) flash, I might even pass on it.
I’ve had xenon flashes all my life, and once I got my Xperia S I never used the ‘flash’ again.

  • Lunkz

    Looks like speaker

  • Ryan Liao

Maybe it’s just a Japanese version of AU or Docomo.

  • Danny

    its a case

  • Fawoo

Or a prototype to test the texture. There’s various options why it looks like that people should focus on the shape/camera/whatever is under and beside it.

  • Izamanaick

Look at the side of the phone. It’s not the same metal frame as seen in the other pictures, ergo its either a case or something covering the back. Most likely the former.

  • Izamanaick

Why would it be a weird place to put it?

  • Fawoo

Definitely think that’s the clear choice. Just pointing out that when a phone gets pictured like above, it could very well just be a prototype to test texture, or shape, or just a case. Some people automatically jump to “I hate it” when they don’t really know whether it’s a case/prototype.

  • AsadMulla

flash tool is you friend my brother.

  • helo

If i use.flash tool does my xperia z become root????? If it i dnt wana root it

  • (C):stem

    I guess so :/

  • Andrew Tan

Flash Tools won’t root your phone.

  • Tech Gospel

Could be an IR emitter for low light use, or AF assist.

  • JG

I’m getting disappointed with Honami and Ultra… sigh…

  • Jesús López Sotelo

That’s because you believe in extraordinary rumors before the final specs showed up.

  • Ray

Maybe sony has changed of heart by putting infrared/lens on the phone lol, maybe just maybe.

Next to the camera you’d expect a flash, and an IR port is usually on the side of a device.

Come to think of it, you don’t often hold a remote vertically to use it. You can usually just point the device at something.

It’ s like a normal official update, but faster. Your Z doesn’ t become root and the bootloader won’ t be unlocked. You don’ t loose your warranty.
